    23ms input lag "Excellent".

The Sony W850B LED TV is the best gaming TV you can buy in this price and size range. The downsides, which shouldn't really matter to gamers, are a narrow viewing angle as well as sub-par smart features.

  • Have the 70" model and apart from the menus to access content being a pain in the butt its a good TV.

Still wish I had of waited for the UHD model which came out a month later but as we all know technology is pretty much obsolete from the moment its released.

Personally I'd probably make a move on this 60" when it hits closer to $1k.

  • Available for $1376 from Videopro (free shipping to most areas)

Been saying this a bit lately and I'm just going to paste what I have posted, elsewhere - but bare in mind, I'm sure many people have bought Sony TVs lately and are perfectly happy. Generally, you only read comments for unhappy customers on the internet.

The one I saw was fine other than the problem, but yeah - it's interesting how Sonys are getting sold off so heavily.

    ..

Look up "w850 backlight" on google.

Plenty of people with back lighting issues with large Sony tvs

I've witnessed one such TV (actually not the w850, the Sony UHD 70 that was/is 3K) with the issue (very blotchy backlight, absolutely easy to spot in menus or with solid colours). The person who has it, I think, is just going to take a stiff upper lip and accept it because of the massive hassle.

Lately, from researching and very almost buying that UHD 70, I have got the vibe that Sony aren't quite a premium name. When you're standing with a sales guy and he's actually giving off the vibe that whilst there is nothing even close to this price with these features (70inch, UHD etc), it's not a good deal, you have to wonder.

you seem to post this in every sony tv thread. I did what you suggested, expecting a large thread topping a google search, but in reality the only thing on the first page is a few posts in whirlpool about it. Given the large number of sets sold it doesn't seem endemic.

There is a thread here: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/15… not from google front page, but I gave you the benefot of the doubt anyway. That thread is global and many posts aren't even about backlighting. Overall it does not seem to be a problem that warrants a warning in every sony tv thread from a person who doesn't even own a set themselves.

Many of us know that you do not listen to a salesperson to get a vibe about what brand is premium. It is well known that sales people pump the brand with the best margin and wil actively steer you away from a better tv to one with more profit margin.

Looking at these sets compared to others at several stores, nothing i saw came close to the picture quality of the Sony in the size and price range.

You need to be careful as you can come across as a troll.

You can only perceive what I said as trolling if you are unhappy that someone is pointing out that he has witnessed a problem, seen it discussed on the internet but that it may be just a few unhappy customers. Seems a little too fair to be trolling to me.

Many people would be absolutely pissed to find out they had to return their giant, heavy, inconvenient TV and I don't apologise for looking out for them. Sorry if you're offended, but I don't give a toss, the people who got the TV I saw are sucking it up, which is sad and I feel sorry for them but they are busy people with jobs and two children and they just don't have the time to stuff around with returns of this kind.

I would feel sorry for anybody on ozbargain who had a similar experience. Recently, I bought a CD key from a vendor that had posted a deal on here.. Nobody bothered to point out this vendor wanted a scanned copy of your drivers license before he would release the key (despite people saying thanks and whatnot). This you only find out after you buy it. If one person would have bothered to comment on that, absolutely no deal.

      FUD!

I have one, do you? If not, then stop pretending your misinformation is of any value. It's a good TV.

However, my advice is unless you need a new 60" TV right now, then wait for the 60" 4k to drop in price.
(insert blah blah of no content/lack of understanding of resolution here) This is the reason they are dropping, 4K panels are roughly the same price to make and they would like to stop making 1080p panels.

The only negative I have about the W850 is that the motion flow (high frame rate interpolation) is so good that it can make movies look too realistic (soap opera effect) and you can see the difference between CGI/backdrops and the real actors. There is a 'cinema mode' that counters that extremely well, but I am forever having to flick back and forth between cinema mode and 'sports mode'. There is a "football" button which is supposed to toggle between the two modes, but there are more than two interpolation modes available from the menus and the two that the button toggles between doesn't seem to be reconfigurable and the default choices are not acceptable to me. Thus choosing modes via menu instead which is somewhat clunky and not able to be programmed into my logitech harmony. I don't know if any TV does that any better though.
