Samsung HW-H450 290W Soundbar + Sub $198 at Harvey Norman

70

Got this on Friday, staff member said deal expires today. Seems fine but probably not sufficient if you're seeking substantial power for larger rooms.

He also said the LG NB3540 (I suspect) is available for the same price - http://www.harveynorman.com.au/lg-2-1ch-ultra-slim-wireless-… (but obviously not online). He also claimed* these prices are 'below cost'

HW-H450 Features:
80W Front Speakers/130W Active Wireless Subwoofer
Bluetooth Streaming & NFC-assisted pairing
Remote Control
Inputs: Optical/HDMI/3.5" Audio
Outputs: HDMI (ARC)
Supports Anynet+ and Soundconnect (Soundshare) for compatible Samsung Smart TV's.

  • Can anyone comment if these are any good?

  • Samsung HW-D450, I bought the D version of this (about a year ago) HATE it sounds like speakers are in a box. used it only few times. I ended up using my Logitech X-230 PC speakers you can plug this to your TV, sounds better.

    • Yep - installed one of these at the GF's place and was shocked how poor the sound quality is.
Compared to Logitech subs of similar power and size, the Samsung is almost non-existent.

      • Thanks, I'm surprised they're that bad. Was considering on buying these but will stay away now. Thanks!

  • What do people think of this at $249?

Seems like the cheapest price going around with a Shop front. Lots of good reviews though lacking a separate subwoofer

  • I picked up the Philips one (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114822) earlier in the year and it works a treat. Great sound and is compatible with Logitech remotes, so it is effectively integrated with the TV, etc. :)

I wouldn't pay $199 that DSE are currently asking, but anywhere around $100-$120 is good value IMHO. E.g. $106 at this place, never heard of them though - https://www.ao3.com.au/product/HTL215.

Kogan have the newer version at $145 + shipping if you were keen on that. No idea what the differences are or if it is any good though. (https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/philips-soundbar-speaker-extern…)

    Good luck!

  • +1

These were so poor I had to return these. The power was fine for large living space but the quality of it was trash. You cannot hear speeches or dialogues and I had to turn on subtitles just to understand what was going on! The sound was extremely muffled almost like watching tv with a box over your head! I don't recommend these at all.

    • Really? I'm not an audiophile for scrutiny but I can hear things like dialogue pretty clearly…

      • Yes, these are great value for the price. I found the speech clarity/definition to be it's weakest point. I was upset that the speech clarity was better on the stock speakers of my Samsung tv! In terms of other frequencies, it completely blows the stock speakers out of the water! It's a huge upgrade!

I have to say for less than $200 it's a steal. I would however spend a bit more and look at other soundbars.

  • i have them, it's great for my small lounge 4mx5m. I got a set for my inlaws and they have a large wide open lounge and it doesn't sound too great in there. I've only had an issue with dialogue when playing Guardians of the Galaxy Blu-Ray which is 7.1. All my other 5.1 Blu-rays and free to air TV are clear. They're good value for the price and compatible with my panasonic ST60A. I got them for $185 during TGG Ebay sale and it came with 10 free Blu-rays. They're good value for the price but if you're after boomy bass then get a pair of Logitech PC speakers. I didn't have muffled sounds, i use the standard mode without the 3D sound effects.
