MetroMagazine Offers Can No Longer Be Posted

Received an email from someone who works in Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM), who publishes the Metro Magazine which has been offering free screening of movies to teachers and lecturers. Those restricted film screenings are not open to the public, and ATOM does not wish them to be posted on community websites like OzBargain either.

I am putting a permanent ban on MetroMagazine.com.au and Screenings.org.au so members will not "accidentally" submit a free screening offer from there.

  • So the Paranormal Activity free tickets deal - I see it's gone now but can you tell me if those tickets can only be used by teachers?

  • i don't know whether to go to this screening or not. i actually am a qualified teacher but have nothing to prove this.

  • I think those are only intended to be used by teachers. Not really sure whether proof needs to be produced, but then let's not go down that route. If it's not available to public, we won't let it on OzBargain.

    • Scotty,

Would it be an idea to publish a notice letting everyone know that it is only available to Teachers (despite the fact the organiser indicated to me that this one was not restricted to teachers or students)

There were so many hits and God knows how many are intending to go.
At least this way they would be aware that they may not gain access.

BTW, The Paranormal Activity people have been giving away free tickets on Facebook for any Facebook member.

      Regards, Bob.

  • does Screenings.org.au have other free screenings other than ATOM… this may be a bit of overkill for other good bargains… as an example i could publish a deal from a random site for 'IT people only' in my magazine then request you don't publish it on ozbargains…doesn't mean i have exclusive rights to that site…

its a serious question as i like free movies :D not trying to be smart…

    • Sure. It is entirely possible.

However Screenings.org.au is run by Australian Teachers of Media Inc (ATOM), and I am under the instruction of their Subscription Manager to remove the offers there and ban the whole domain as they are exclusive to the teachers and have been abused by the public.

CecilyStreetStudios.com.au is something totally different (it's in film distribution). I've also received emails from them to remove the offers.

  • So to confirm this is for teachers only? Will we be required to show some kind of proof?

    • It is intended for teachers only. No idea whether ID will be checked. If you are a teacher, then maybe bring some proof.

  • Who is planning to go to 'The Words' tomorrow? Hopefully no ID will be required, got 4 tickets and saw the previous post which referred to here..

  • can a comment be posted about a deal that can't be submitted? :)

    • :)

    • Well you might be able to post comments or forum discussions, but please do not link to free screening offers. If ATOM requests to have links pulled, we'll be obligated to do that as well.

      • thanks - thought so, which is why i just posted a nudge-nudge wink-wink here whenever a free screening was offered on their website :)
