Samsung Galaxy S5 4G for $500 - eBay Group Deal (QD)

110

Not as cheap as 15% deal before but fairly good price for a excellent phone. Don't forget another 2 % off using cash rewards. I have bought this phone from this seller(qd_au) during 15% off deal-https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/161450 and apart from getting duel sim model no complaints

Reckon this is a better deal?

That's a good deal but the S5 (2014) is more comparable to the G3 (2014), rather than the G2 (2013).

Edit: Also the bands aren't great for LTE in Australia (no Telstra 4G at all). Read comments here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/180608

Taiwan seller, probably not covered by AU consumer warranty.

    • +2

definitely not covered by AU warranty

  • +1

    Aust stock and warranty?

    • No to both

  • WARNING

Notwithstanding the claims made by the OP, and seemingly in the eBay Deals page -

I believe that these are overseas market phones. Delivered from either Taiwan or Hong Kong. As such:-
These phones will be Private Imports. Imported by the buyers.
No Australian Consumer Guarantee will apply.
No GST will be collected or paid to the Australian Tax Department.
There will be no valid warrantee from SAMSUNG Australia.

I am happy to be proven wrong. Please post your experience(s) with this seller as a coment.

    • You are correct these are grey imports

      • You are correct (sic) these are grey imports

Yes, I am correct - but NO, these ARE NOT grey imports. (As far as I can tell).

I believe that they will be delivered from outside of Australia. This makes them private imports - imported by the buyers.

The buyers will be responsible for the legality of the importation (Safety compliance of the AC charger etc.).

If anyone can show that these phones have already been imported by the seller, and that they will be suplied from Australia. Please post a comment. However, I find it difficult to believe that the seller would take such a risk.

    • "No GST will be collected or paid to the Australian Tax Department."
      So?

      • -1

        So?

So, one can not make a claim for the GST to be refunded if one is traveling outside Australia in the near future. This is important for some buyers, as they need a Tax Invoice.

        • How can you claim gst that hasn't been paid?

No gst paid is better than paying & chasing a refund.

          Am I missing something?

        • -1

          @Utopian:

          Am I missing something?

Yes. If the price included the GST, and a Tax Invoice was issued, the buyers could claim back the tax if they were traveling overseas soon after purchase.

This is important to some buyers.

        • @A3Australia: You've repeated the same. I don't believe those sales have gst (?). Therefore they're better for the buyer. No gst = lower price (for all buyers), no refund to chase.

        • -2

          @Utopian:

No gst = lower price (for all buyers), no refund to chase.

No GST = Private Import by the buyers. No consumer protection, no Australian Warranty.

        • +1

@A3Australia: So still… the not paying gst is not a point. If so, it's a positive. The warranty & consumer protection points stand on their own. All this for nothing.

OP, how would this Taiwan based seller handle any warranty claims?

Do they have some arrangement with an Australian based repairer?

    • They actually have a repair shop in Sydney. Never have to use it so far; below is from their ebay page

12 months local store warranty in Australia*
Items can be returned to Sydney for repair services for your peace of mind
      Warranty covers manufacture defects
Warranty does NOT cover errors caused by improper usage of the product out of its limitations and/or intended purposes
Buyers do not require any warranty documentations when claiming warranty
      Buyers pay for return postage

So basically they imported a lot and eBay Group Buy.

    • -2

So basically they imported a lot and eBay Group Buy.

No, Why do you think that is correct? It would be illegal for them to import these phones. Even if they did import these phones, then add legal AC Chargers and plugs, and then sell the phones - they would have to collect the GST.

      • -1

Again with the GST. And again, wrong.

I'm not sure what your hard-on about other people's tax status is.

Again with the GST. And again, wrong.

I am not wrong. What are you talking about? What has your link got to do with a business situated outside of Australia?

        • @A3Australia: Ah jesus, walk-away. Your false facts are wrong & have no backing.

You say a foreign company is breaking our laws by "importing" (that would be exporting) & must pay our local gst?? What drugs are you on.

          The OP stated that:-

And, I said "It would be illegal for them to import these phones. Even if they did import these phones, then add legal AC Chargers and plugs, and then sell the phones - they would have to collect the GST."

So, IF they did export the phones to their local shop. The local shop would be the importer. It is not legal to import and sell mobile phones that carry no Australian approvals. The same with the AC chargers.

This is one of the reasons these foreign businesses (such as Kogan HK P/L) sell from outside Australia, and make the buyer the importer. The other reasons being GST, and company tax.

        • @A3Australia: The point I entered at was your false understanding of gst collection & assuming their tax status. You never read/understood the supplied link.

  • can you buy more than on the ebay sale? i need 3

    mixo

I think you can buy as many as you want; there is no maximum buy limit that I can see

Becarwful. I remembered DWI put 3 OPO into one package and the receiver had to pay the fine since the package was >$1000.

S6 announced in 5 to 9 weeks from now at most. Likely on shelves, 9 to 16 weeks from now.
S5 only has 2gb of ram, most premium phones have 3.
Good price I admit but nah, these puppies will be $450 / $400 in less than 4 months.

    • Good price I admit

Is it really a good price for an overseas model - privately imported?

  • you can only buy one..bummer

can anyone confirm that this one will be compatible with the telstra 4g 700mhz band please?

    • +1

Yeah it does. The SM-G900I model is exactly the Australian model. But I doubt this is Australian stock.

    • can anyone confirm that this one will be compatible with the telstra 4g 700mhz band please?

The seller states that this overseas model supports these '4G' bands:-

      LTE FDD Band 1 (2100)
      Band 2 (1900)
      Band 3 (1800)
      Band 5 (850)
      Band 7 (2600)
      Band 8 (900)
      Band 28 (700) + TDD
      Band 40 (2300)

      EDIT:
As "steamknife" already posted. SM-G900I Seems to be the same model designation used for Asia and Oceania markets.

      Hope this helps.

      • thanks, now the big question is will the price drop by valentines days feb 14th or not. wait or just buy it now.
