Storage Service with Hotel after Check out Time in Japan

So I am just wanting others experiences in Japan if their hotel was fine for taking care of your luggage on your last day with them and you would go about then come back to pickup your bags say later during the day?

I would assume different hotels would have different policy's

  • Yes, it's fine, just ask.

If not there are storage lockers all over train stations. Or just pay for a cheap capsule hotel.

  • +1

Customer service in Japan is usually exceptional. If you're a paying customer, most hotels will oblige. And if they don't, it may simply be because they don't have the space.

I stayed in a 'business hotel' once in Tokyo where the room didn't even have enough space to open my suitcase on the ground! I ended up having to put newspapers on the bed and then place my suitcase on top to be able to open it. Lol

And yes plmko is correct, there are large storage lockers for suitcases in some train stations (but not all), and from memory they are usually a bit hidden. Here's another tip, don't use the trains with your suitcase during the rush hour like I did. The locals will give you a death stare like a thousand lasers pointed your way!

    Enjoy yuor trip

  • all decent hotels will do this

  • I've done this quite a few times in Japan, cheap (ie business hotels) and expensive hotels alike were happy to oblige.

  • You can also use a porterage service to transport your luggage to your next destination. We've used Yamato Transport (Ta-q-bin) a bit when travelling throughout Japan so we don't have to carry the skiis, boards and bags through Tokyo. A very good and reliable service.
This is Ozbargain though so if you don't want to spend the cash on porterage… the hotels, pensions, ryokans we've stayed at have always been more than accomodating to look after luggage for a short period.

  • Even cheap hotels have done this on my last trip

  • Another option, though probably not what you are looking for. We left our bags at Shin-osaka train station at luggage drop (available at a few stations) for the day while we explored the city, then returned at the end of the day and caught the train straight to the airport.
