Vodafone Huawei G300+ for $15.60 at Woolworths [Campbell Street, Hobart] ONLY

230

Best price I've seen for the Ascend G300+. There were several of them in the phone cupboard at my local Woolies, Campbell Street Hobart. Mine's locked to Vodafone but hopefully VF will supply a free unlock code.

It's a tri-band 2G & 3G (850/900/2100MHz), runs Gingerbread v2.3.6, has a decent 4" screen, a 1GHz single-core processor and a 5MP auto-focus camera. 512 MB RAM. 4 GB storage. Expandable up to 32 GB with microSD card. Don't bother upgrading the OS.

So cheap you'll have enough left over to call someone on the mainland.

    • Ha! That's a cheap jibe. Anyway I use Zoiper & free wifi at the local library for my calls. Have to keep my voice down though.

Awesome - perfect for my next old phone project - a motion detect webcam to see/send alerts if the garage door is open/shut. Hopefully send an alert if it's open for more then an 20mins, then one day be able to remotely close or open it. Love these cheap phones!

You need to get a girlfriend.

      • What I was thinking too…some people's time is worthless…

      • But Once you get a girlfriend or a wife, you can say good bye to your hobbies….so there are both good and bad sides to married life.

My brother had to give up on badminton and bike riding because his wife wasn't the type to get into sports.

          "Got a wrong wife."

Not necessarily; maybe he got just as much exercise, but in… other ways, after marriage.

          the housework?

My wife might object to that….but maybe she'll be better at closing the garage door.

You need to get a girlfriend.

If you can find one that can configure a mobile to do all that, let me know if she has a sister.

  • This is not in the catalogue. Is it just some Woolies that have this on sale? How did you find it on sale?

    • Pot luck I reckon. They keep their phone stock in a (usually) locked cabinet near the checkouts. It was open, I saw the price on the box and checked the model. The G300+ is the premium version. They had a range of other models, Vodafone and Telstra mostly, but the Huawei is a bargain.

  • Why do you think it is not advisable to upgrade the OS to ICS?

    • I tried it with one of the kid's phones. Not a good experience. And interestingly, Huawei has a downgrade path to restore it to Gingerbread.

Tassie always has the best bargains, we should just call this site TazBargain! :)

  • Rude, Steptoe!

All Tasmanians call you lot mainlanders, but I hadn't realised folk on Tassie's islands, eg Flinders, refer to us the same way.

  • Anyone found this deal at any other woolworths store?

    • +1

I'd like to know this too.

    • Just did a ring around - cant find.

    • I just got the last two in Hobart, Cambell st also had Samsung Galaxy Mini 2's with $29 credit for $7.

  • OK found them in Vic but $49!
OP I think you got a store special.

    • +2

Yes, perhaps. Do they price match themselves?

I've scanned my receipt, perhaps that will help the doubters.

      • Ok. I'm stumped after two hours. What dinner were you making with tuna, refried beans and bacon? Did your jelly set before dessert time?

        • +1

Tea was risoni with baby peas, bacon and garlic. And yes, the jelly did set in time, if a little jiggly. The tuna was for supper, the refried beans are a treat for later in the week with tacos & slow-cooked chicken. There - my life laid out!

Damn… I was looking forward to having a mobile GPS/5MP cam/Hungry-Jacks-shake-n-win app device for ~$15.
Assuming I found one one day, what would be the best internet plan to get it on? Can I get some sort of really cheap prepaid interent associated with a SIM card (i.e. rather than a USB device)? What I was looking at was VodaPh' prepaid, but to get the credit to last 365 days, you need to outlay about $125; and then you get way more GB than I'd ever actually need… As you've no doubt gathered, I know nothing about mobile internet plans… any advice would be appreciated. Soz for diverting the thread, but it seems it's actually a store-special, and one in Taswegia no less, so I dinnae feel too bad…
    ;-P

  • dam not at our loacal woolies,,,now where is this tasmania op speaks of

    • The only place there might be a dam at the local Woolies at the moment would be somewhere in QL. Major flooding in some parts there recently.

People get something like this for their first smart phone and then think Android is crap and go buy a $900 iPhone.

  • +2

I have found stock in Melbourne Sunbury store. They said it is down from $39 to $23.40 (save $15.60). It is still a good price though.

  • $39 @Coorparoo Brisbane - 2 left.
Not really worth it at that price, given quad core 4G Huawei Y550 has been as low as $69 with much better features like 4.5" screen, runs KitKat.
