  • Good oil for those who don't want fully synthetic with more mileage than mineral. It certainly stays cleaner longer in my old 1993 car. Assuming 10w-40 viscosity is appropriate for your needs.

Have seen it cheaper but this is still good. I think Repco were throwing in a free oil filter last time for $16-19 odd.

    • Yeah think it was 15w40 with the filter

  • the meguiar's wash and wax on last page is very good price.thanks op.

  • This is good stuff for the price. Its also rated for a lot of turbo diesels. This would be good to go to this cheaper stuff and do 10k changes. I would say better than full synthetic and 15k. It would be stable to do 15k changes with this though probably better than most shops oils. Im not sure about full 15k intervals for city cars, both our cars oils really look like they really need a change by 12.5k.

  • Paid $35 yesterday at super cheap.

  • It's good stuff….I think a year ago it was $13 at Supercheap, stocked up 4 then. Will stock up 4 again from Repco now. Thanks!

  • I use this oil on my gs500. Pretty good and cheap.

  • Just want to ask a question that is slightly irrelevant:

Will changing engine oil affect fuel economy?? I mean increase, like a lot?

Also will these decrease your fuel economy A LOT if dirty:
    Oxygen Sensor
    Mass Airflow Sensor
    Throttle
    Fuel System Fuel Injector
    Spark Plug

2005 Nissan Pulsar 1.8 just hit over 200,000km
    80km / 8.5L, so roughly 10.6L / 100km

I heard quite a few types of car with a much bigger engine using like 7 or 8L / 100km..

    • +2

Hmm yeah it depends on how you drive the car, if that pulsar is an auto and in stop start city traffic over 10l per 100ks isnt out of the question. All those things you listed will hurt economy if not up the snuff. If the air filter is clogged up that wont help either.

Engine oil can affect economy if really thick. Interestingly I bought a ex-fleet turbo diesel i30 auto wagon and it had 5000ks till the oil was due (serviced by hyundai). I didn't love the look of the oil when I first bought it but figured it was best to stick with the schedule so ran the 5000ks. When my mechanic (had to get warranty book stamp) he reckoned the oil was super sludgy and really thick (I bet they used standard 15w-40 shop oil as its not rated to take on the extra ash a turbo-diesel makes) He used the shell helix ultra 0-40w full synthetic I supplied him. (ozbargain deal) which is rated and instantly by ecnonomy went from 6.5l/100km to 6.0/100km (traffic driving). This is not just using the computer, double checked with odometer and litre calcs at the pump.

This same car had been taken into hyundai every 7500km for "extra premium" services for its lifetime and it was interesting to note that when I took ownership air filter was rooted and the cabin filter had never been removed and cleaned. They must be a top shelf servicing outfit.

  • The full synthetic Shell Helix Ultra ECT 5W-30 at $54.99 is pretty good too, if you have a late model Audi, VW, BMW and Merc.

    • The 5-40w version has been $27.99 on previous deals. But this is a good oil nonetheless. I got 4 lots on that deal…

      • Ultra ECT don't have 5W-40 grades, you are talking about standard Helix? Ultra ECT meets higher standards, which the late European brands recommend (VW 504.00/507.00 for VW/Audi cars), hence probably why it is much more expensive! We have to pay more for the euro badge…
