Cricketer's Arms Spearhead Pale Ale $10/6-Pack - My Dan Murphy's Members (+ Other Deals?)

750

It's the first of the month again, when Dan Murphy's tells me what I'm going to be drinking for the next 31 days. Top of the list is the Cricketer's Arms Spearhead Pale Ale. Positive Beer Advocate reviews, supposed to be a nice American Pale Ale if you like that sort of thing. You'll need to log in to MyDanMurphys to see this deal btw.

There's also some other bits and pieces if this suits you more. You'd have to ask Mrs Chickentaste if any of the following constitutes a bargain or not, I have no idea:

Taylors's Cab Sauv 2009+ Reserve Parcel Shiraz 2013 $30 for both
6 x Yalumba Y series for $48
Louis Auger Champagne Brut 2 for $50
Johnnie Walker Platinum $89 for 750ml
McAllister Cola + Rum premix 440ml 4 for $10
Subzero citrus vodka premix 275ml 4 for $10
Matso's Mango/Lychee Beer 330ml 6 for $15
Koppaberg 500ml 3 for $12

Also, Ozbargain, why no separate category for alcohol deals? Entertainment is far too generic and Food and Grocery makes me look like an alcoholic…

    Matso's Mango/Lychee Beer 330ml 6 for $15

    Nice!

    • +1

      Matso's Mango beer is delish!

  • Hmm they are getting a bit more expensive these deals. Might try the mango beer but not much else appeals there.

    • -2

      I wouldn't bother, it's pretty yucky.

The crickets arms is a nice drop.

  • +2

6 x Yalumba Y series for $48 is decent. The Viognier and Sangiovese Rosé are particularly nice.

    • +2

Yeah the Viognier is a good drop

Don't forget cash back when purchasing online. Also possible to get 5% off if you purchase discounted Everday Wish Gift Cards. You can use Entertainment Book or Cash Rewards. Or 7.5% if you got on the Groupon Deal.

I'd grab a six pack of Cricket's Arms if I didn't have so many slabs left over from Australia Day still.

  • 'Cricketer's Arms Spearhead Pale Ale'. Finally a deal potentially worth getting

    • +5

I'm still drinking the $10 6 packs of White Rabbit. That was a great deal.

      • How may did you buy?! Wasn't my cuppa tea, the fenneys was great though!

        • At least 36 bottles. Maybe more… I traded a six pack for a $15 item as well.

        • +3

@sween64: I managed to luckily get a carton for the price of a 6 pack. They screwed up my click and collect and packed it as 2 cartons instead of 2x 6 packs, so paid $20 for both a carton of the White Rabbit and the other beer that they had on special then as well (can't remember the name of it).

          My best bargain ever :-P

        • @Porthos: That was probably the James Squire copper ale, wasn't too bad

        • @Wampus: Yep, that's the one. I did like the White Rabbit a lot more, but for $10 for a carton I wasn't complaining :-)

    'Makes' me, lol

    • +7

yeah, sorry. 'Reveals me to be…'

I'm loving these $10 six pack deals and trying new beers I probably would normally have walked straight past…sipping on a Kronenbourg as we speak!

  • Is there a limit?

    • -1

Maximum of three six lacks per day The others have limits too I believe.

Bit nervous about the Cricketers - bought some John Boston for the last $10 special and the only way they could call it a pale ale is that it once saw one from a distance across a crowded room, very much a lager that one. White Rabbit is the goods though.

Also the last Cricketers pale, their so called IPA, was just a lager. Agree with this review:

"Cricketers Arms India Pale Ale. Don’t let the name fool you. This isn’t a craft beer brewed on the premises of an historic pub.

Early in 2013 the Cricketers Arms brand was bought by Independent Distillers, a subsidiary of Japanese beverage giant Asahi.

It pours like a commercial beer and looks like VB. Crystal clear with a head that dissipates quickly. Nasty chalky aroma. Medium to thin body with moderate carbonation. It has the same mouthfeel as VB.

Thin with a nasty chalky malt flavour and a sulphur aftertaste.

This barely resembles a beer let alone an IPA."

    • +3

Yep, their IPA was dreadful. Will give this one a go. Last chance Cricketer's.

    • Sulfur aftertaste sounds disgusting..

    • If this is a bad beer then the trend of getting rid of poor selling beers as members special will continue

    • I had a pint of their Pale last Friday night…started off good but by the time halfway through it it had oxidised into something from the chemistry lab…I would recommend it

I found this to be a good review. The Cricketers Arm is the better of the $10 beers for a few months.

'For Asahi making a fake craft beer, it's better than it should be"

  • It's not a bad beer but yeah, I'd stear clear of their IPA

  • Bought 3 packs Cricketers let see how it goes. Thanks OP.

  • I like JW platinum, I enjoy it more than blue. $89 is a good price, slightly cheaper than costco.

  • Can't find it on their mobile site :(

Just as long as it's not an american pie pale ale.

  • +1

Well just went down to my local DM and got a six pack of cricketers.
Wanted a pack of Lychee Beer 330ml 6 for $15 as well.
Was told not on special, said O yes it is on your webpage, he went off and said oh no it isn't
ad they only had one six pack out the back.
    DM Morley … BLOODY USELESS!

    • My local is a bit hopeless, too. When last months special started, 3 employees had no idea which beers were on special and asked me how I knew…

I explained and one jokingly said "perhaps we should get you a job here!" I was going to be a wise ass and say something like "Well, it certainly couldn't hurt!" but they were nice so I thought "Nah". They really should be updated by their manager/supervisor or be expected to know about month long specials.

  • Positive: loving these $10 six pack and cider deals

Negative: Doing an online pickup order for the cash back and trying to pick it up within a few hours can be a bit of an effort…I waited about 15 minutes once while they tried to work out where my order was.

    • +1

Agree on the online ordering/picking up. The last 2 times they didnt have my order ready (they didnt even know i ordered) even though I ordered the night before and came in hours after opening. Its almost aloof like their response.

Surely, one of the first things they would do is check the bloody orders - who is managing these places!

      • They encourage people to order and pickup but havnt trained their staff properly…probably explains their (woolworths) terrible financial performance lately.

    • My local has always been good with online orders. Although I usually go in a day or two later.

  • +2

So glad I got some weed this week.

    Damn the demon liquor.

  • +1

I don't hold high hopes for it, but for a tenner I'll give it a try.

  • +2

Made an online order of x3 Pale Ale and they called me a short while later saying they're out of stock. He offered me the last two monthly offers of The Ducks & Minimum Chips as a substitute. I then requested Little Creatures Pale Ale and he said yes.

    Nice lad, well done, winning.

  • my local DM is useless, they ran out of Cricketers and offered me on the mango beer….didnt bother trying to argue for an LCPA

  • I bought some Cricketers last night. Despite my misgivings (above) it's not too bad, worth the $10 but wouldn't buy it over some of the other more reasonably priced pale ales. For my money the best bang for your buck is Atomic by Gage Roads, cartons are usually about $45. Best PA in Australia currently in my opinion is Feral's Hop Hog, but you pay for it
