So wait, $129 for a bin that still has a pedal? So it's not self opening or anything?

Wow I'd love to see your profit margins!

    • +2

      Well it's US$140 at Amazon: www.amazon.com/simplehuman-Wide-Step-Rectangular-Trash-Stain…

Google says "140 US Dollar equals 180.22 Australian Dollar" at the moment. Assuming Amazon has 100% mark-up, that makes cost price about AU$90, so AU$129 is pretty fair considering it includes $13 GST (and shipping?)

However the "normal" price of AU$229 is the same as what you can buy it from Amazon for.

    • +5

Simplehuman stuff is always expensive, but it's not a valid reason to neg vote.
I couldn't find a lower price for it.

I just looked at some reviews and people seems to really love it.

      • +1

Very good quality stuff. Great deal if you want a trendy bin.

        • +33

Great deal if you want a trendy bin.

lol what an age we live in.

        • +1

          @waterlogged turnip:

Let's just say it would be the type of bin you would find on The Block.

        • +3

          @deal88:

People in The Block aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed

        • +1

@Serapis: i didn't mention my opinion about those on the block. i saw an episode last week where one of the chicks purchased one cushion for $500. probably easier when you are not spending your own money.

    • +4

A pedal that's built to keep working for many years and thousands of presses, unlike your Kmart special where the pedal breaks after a week.

Mine's over 10 years old and still going strong, and it's just a little plastic bin - not even these fancy stainless steel jobs.

      • How is it against knocks? Does it have tiny dents?

        • +1

Mine's plastic. Doesn't dent. The only down side is that being plastic (and small - only 15L) it's lighter and so doesn't stay in place as well as a steel one would.

      • -1

But… if the KMart one at $10 breaks after say 10 months… you could buy 12 replacements before you are up for the cost of this.
And i don't know about you… i clean my bin, but i replace them regularly too. And it's more often than once every 10 years.

    • Hehe 15 upvotes, 15 downvotes… Crazy! :)

  • -7

    http://alwaysdirect.com.au/kitchen-office-sensor-rubbish-bin…

50L, $70, and it opens and closes by itself. No deal!

    • +6

Simplehuman is like the Lamborghini of rubbish bin, invest one and you'll never look back. Too bad I already have the smaller one when I moved in to my new place and would not need another one for a very very long time.

      • +56

"like the Lamborghini of rubbish bin" That's it! I've heard everything now :P

      • +21

"invest one and you'll never look back"

What do you mean invest in one? What kind of return will I get with this bin? Personally a bin is a bin and I would never spend $100 on one

      • +3

        but it's not red.

      • +2

Not big enough to put a lamborghini in.

        • +15

yet too big to fit in a Lamborghini …

        • @Risto:

          First world problems

      • +2

Is Brabantia the Ferrari of rubbish bins?

        What about Hettich or HAFELE?

      • +2

no it isnt, it is just a rubbish bin - that is all.

      • -1

Actually, if you "invest" in a Lamborghini you are signing up for endless and huge expenses for tyres, servicing, insurance etc. And if it breaks, god help you.

PS, based on your comment can we assume you own a Lamborghini?

      • "Simplehuman is like the Lamborghini of rubbish bin", soo, I am assuming that after 1 month of usage, I still can sell it back for 80% of the original value :P

        • Inasfar as people ever bother to resell used bins, good luck finding a secondhand one… there is precisely 1 on eBay and 3 on Gumtree (search both simplehuman and simple human). Even Amazon has very few used.

If you buy one of these, it's for keeps :-)

    • Handy if you're afflicted in some way but apart from that it's seriously rubbish for your pocket and the environment.

    • +1

I love those self-opening ones but we've gone through a few now, they only seem to last about 12-18 months. When the current one dies I'll go for something like the one in the OP.

      • Never mind, I see it's $99 when I apply the coupon.

(having a bad day, think I'll give up till tomorrow. :( )

  • +2

The price might still be too much for me, but simplehuman does make great stuff, albeit pricey. This looks like a pretty decent bargain to me for a high end trash bin. It's cheaper than Amazon. The reviews are excellent, despite the high price.

    http://www.amazon.com/simplehuman-Wide-Step-Rectangular-Tras…

  • +19

The bin is more expensive that the stuff I will be throwing

    • +3

If that's your criteria for buying a bin, then I expect you'll be using a 2nd hand plastic shopping bag sitting on the bench top for the rest of your life. :D

Not that $130 for a bin strikes me as a sensible use of my limited finds, mind you.

    • +1

Unless you're using a plastic bucket that's normally the case is it not?

    • Wondering how much do you usually throw in a bin?

  • +13

does it push out the bins on garbage days too?

  • +2

LOL, the liners are 50c each…bargain!!

  • +3

You know it's not a deal when the first benefit of the bin is where you can place it and then the pedal… sham wow face

  • Is it airtight?

    • Well, not airtight, but contains the smell of the rubbish very very well.

  • +1

$129 PLUS delivery. Please amend title

  • +4

Anyone is throwing some gold in this "Lamborghini bin"?
    Just a bin mate.

  • Where are these bins manufactured?

    • Most likely China

  • +1

Thanks OP I bought 3. Needed some "lamborghini bins" to put around the house and impress the friends. :)

  • +11

Haha I actually have this bin. It looks like a terrible deal until you actually see the product. It's like buying a Mac over a Dell laptop, the engineering is beautiful, and it's solid as a rock. You can use any bin bags in it, but their custom made bin liners are better… thicker and fit perfectly.

Most people will never want/need one of these bins. But goddamn if you appreciate nice things, you will want one. There is no better homeware company - there's a reason it comes with a 10-year warranty.

    • Does it fit shopping bags? It looks too tall.

      • We use the big white Glad bin liners from Aldi, they just fit.

        • how much do these liners cost from Aldi and how many do you get?

      • We also stock the bin liners which fit each can snugly.
        eg http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/simplehuman-code-h-custom-fi…
Just need to match up the codes and make sure you select the correct liners :-)

        • Veg, have I got it wrong or have u linked up the wrong liners? I think the H liners are for the 30L bins (I already have 3 of these bins) and the correct ones for the 38L bins wld be J as per your description.

          http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/simplehuman-code-j-custom-fi…

I sure hope so, cos I just ordered yet another SH bin with the J liners!

    • Solid as a rock ?…hmm..Most people here won't be able to see past the price tag unfortunately, which is the nature of a site like this.

      • +7

Agreed, this is the talk of the town over at binsnobs.co.nz

    • so you have a rubbish bin on show in your kitchen? no matter what, it is a rubbish bin and not a really classy look for the room.
the under counter one looks much better.

      • +4

Leave the cabinet doors open so people can admire it.

      • +1

You'd be surprised at how it blends into the kitchen, it just looks like it belongs… hard to describe. It's invisible (if you know what i mean)…

        • It's almost like people, expect, a bin, in a kitchen…

  • +6

    Simplehuman made for simple humans.

  • Thats a huge investment on rubbish!!

I've always been taught not to throw money in the bin

    • But were you taught not to throw money on the bin?

Are there any adults here to clarify?

Any chance of extending the coupon to CW2007 - the Rectangular Wide Step Recycler Bin 46L (30L/16L) ? I'd snap that up in a second as I need a good multi-bin solution.

    • +9

Sure thing bwooce - if you refresh you'll find the promo code works on that product now:
      http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/simple-human-cw2007-garbage-…

      Thanks! :-)

      • Can you extend the coupon to simplehuman 30L butterfly step can garbage bin | CW1824 as well? :)

      • Ordered :-)

      • Any chance on a deal on the 20L butterfly? The 30L won't fit into my kitchen but the 20L would be perfect!

        • Me too. The 30l is a bit too high to fit under the bench.

      • +1

:'( I missed it!! I was going to buy last night but didn't (CW2007)… Went to purchase this morning and they are sold out! :(
Do you know when you will have more stock? & any chance of the coupon being extended :)

        • +1

          Ditto on this :(.

      • +1

        Out of stock Noooooooooooooooooooo

  • Do they have any bins for smarthumans ? Or cheap versions for OzBargainHumans ?

    • What, smart enough to use a bin?

  • +1

can you extend the coupon to simplehuman 30L rectangular step can rubbish bin

  • +2

We have this bin. Very well made. Perfect size and shape for a family of four's kitchen. The pedal is very wide so is very easy to use(much better than the same bin with smaller pedal). Fingerprint proof finish works as advertised. The soft close lid is very much appreciated in out open plan kitchen. After months of use the Lid still closes very snugly so no issues with smell. Fits the big white Glad bin liners from Aldi. (we got bulk Glad Tall Kitchen Drawstring bags from Amazon during Amex free shipping offer)
For the price, this is a bargain. BTW people who are considering the butterfly opening version may want to check it out in store before deciding as the lid opening is quite small and the lid gets dirty easily. As for the recycler version of this bin, I really wanted that but it was too big and looked out of place in my kitchen.

my gf wanted a simplehuman automatic soap dispenser and paper towel dispenser
total cost about $100, bought it for her birthday
complete waste of money because these things shouldnt cost anything
but they are the nicest things in the house now and are pleasurable to use and theyve grown on me

still not going to tell her about this bin

    • +1

I got the mrs the make up mirror with the automatic light sensor. She's over the moon - win win!

    • Here is a your chance to impress your gf and buy her rubbish bin for her next birthday.

  • Any deal on the 20L butterfly bin Happy Vegemite?
    http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/simple-human-garbage-bin-but…

(Although it'd be hard to beat the 30L version at $99… I just wish it would fit supermarket shopping bags instead of having to buy liners).

    • The 30l version is $199, where did you get $99 from (cos I'd probably get one at that price)

      • +1

        Use the code, Luke…

        • Thanks. (One of those days….)

  • Thanks rep! ordered!

Anyone else tempted just to see what's so luxurious about a $100 bin?

  • Hi, could you give me the dimensions of the 38l and the 30l rectangular bins please? Oh and also do they come with plastic or metal lids?

No, sorry opened my eyes and found the dimensions, forget that.

  • Hi Rep,

Can the code be applied on the simplehuman 40L butterfly recycler rubbish bin | CW2017?

    http://www.yourhomedepot.com.au/simple-human-cw2017-garbage-…

    Thank You
