  • How much would a dimmable version of this cost?

  • +2

This post just brightened my day

    • Thank you! More to come from LED Accessories :)

You should send a sample to www.ledbenchmark.com to validate the 1300W Lumen claim

    • +1

      Agree 100%.
I bought mine (PAK 10W) because of ledbenchmark. Great website that sorts the wheat from the chaff!

Good advice! We currently have 2 LED replacement bulbs (7W and 10W) tested by ledbenchmark:

      http://www.ledbenchmark.com/list.php?manf=99

Yes we are planning to get more of our LED lights tested by ledbenchmark, including the downlight range.

      Thanks

  • Anyone using these currently or seen a review? There's no part number or information to do a comparison…

Rep, is this a Samsung product, or is it a generic no name product using a Samsung LED?

    • It is not a Samsung product, it is a generic product which uses Samsung SMD 5630 LED.

      Thanks

  • these look pretty good , better than the large globes we have in the bulk heads in our kitchen but I think these are 90-100mm.
does the 240 plug disconnect so perm wiring can connect?
1200lumens is about what in watts?

    • +1

Thanks for your comment. The answers of your questions are as below.

      1. does the 240 plug disconnect so perm wiring can connect?
Yes the 240V power plug is disconnected from the downlight.

      2. 1200 lumens is about what in watts?
I think you are comparing the LED light output with the old incandescent light bulb, below text is the relevant section of our free ebook "LED-Light-Bulb-Buying-Guide" (http://www.ledaccessories.com.au/blog/wp-content/uploads/201…), which explains how to translate watts into lumens. Hope it helps. Any further questions let us know.

How many lumens do I need? Over the last century, we've been trained to think about light purely in terms of wattages, so it isn't surprising that most people really have no idea of how many lumens they actually need in a bulb. Until you form an idea of how bright is bright enough for your tastes, stick with the figures below:

Replacing a 25-watt bulb: look for at least 220 lumens

Replacing a 40-watt bulb: look for at least 400 lumens

Replacing a 60-watt bulb: look for at least 700 lumens

Replacing a 75-watt bulb: look for at least 900 lumens

Replacing a 100-watt bulb: look for at least 1,300 lumens

      Thanks

      • thanks.
I know how bright watts are so thanks for this.

"Replacing a 100-watt bulb: look for at least 1,300 lumens"
That means your 12w led would be as bright or very close to a 100w halogen lamp?

        • +1

          Incandescent

        • The natural white 12W downlight is close, but we recommend it is more suitable to replace a 75W halogen lamp.

          Thanks
          LED Accessories

        • @Steptoe: understand, halogen is slightly brighter than incandescent.

        • @LED Accessories:

75W Halogen gives 1272lumen so close if your 1300lumen claim is validated :p

        • +1

@Steptoe: Thanks for the information. The spec of our LED downlights is provided by our supplier. We are planning to send some samples to ledbenchmark to get them tested, like what we did to our LED replacement bulbs.

          Cheers

        • @LED Accessories:

Other models are far from claimed brightness, which you have since significantly revised.

          http://www.ledbenchmark.com/list.php?manf=99&thumbnails

Vendor originally claimed 1300 lumens then after our testing modified claims to 700lm.

        • @Steptoe:
Thanks for updating this thread. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know too much about LED downlights but I'd like to know more as I'm planning a fit out. You seem knowledgeable on this subject, I'd be keen for further info.

I think we should acknowledge that the vendor is trying to do the right thing and have his product reviewed independently although it's fair to say that the claimed brightness reduction is pretty poor.

The big question is does approx half the claimed brightness now mean that these aren't value for money? Is this pretty typical for this class of product. Do you have suggestions for alternatives?

        • +1

          @Steptoe:
Thanks a lot for updating this thread. Yes the test result just came out last week for our 12W 90mm cutout downlight. We since contacted our supplier, and their explanation is: The specified light output is based on the light source rather than the complete product, which they advise is the industrial common practice.

As a Australian local business, we want to provide our customers the most accurate information about our products. That's why we sent our downlights to ledbenchmark for a independent testing. We've since updated the specification on our product listings in both eBay and online stores to reflect the actual test results.

It was never our intention to mislead our customers. We agree that there is a big difference between the claimed and the actual lumens output. We are sorry for that. If any of our customers who bought the downlights, and felt misled, or not happy with the products, please contact us to return the downlights, we will give you full refund and pay the return postage. That's a part of our money back guarantee which applies to all our LED lights.

We only tested our 12W 90mm cutout downlight, we are planning to test other downlights including 12W 120mm cutout, 20W 165mm cutout and 30W 200mm cutout downlights in the coming months. The test results will be available on ledbenchmark.com.

We are also getting new waterproof and flat downlights, they will be tested as well. The product spec will be based on the test result once it is ready.

          Kind Regards
          LED Accessories

  • Can these be run directly from a 12V DC supply?

  • with Driver & SAA CE RoHS Approval

The LED Driver shown in the photos in the eBay listing is DEFINITELY NOT SAA Approved.

What driver do you actually supply, and what is the Certification number?

    • Same as above, please email us on [email protected], and we will send you an copy of the SAA certificate. Then we can discuss what additional information you want from us and our supplier.

      Thanks

      What's a driver, the transformer?

      • Yes, it is the transformer.

  • What brand/type dimmer would you advice for http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111615981550

    • Thanks for your inquiry, we recommend Clipsal trading edge dimmer which works well with all our dimmable downlights.

      Thanks

  • Other than cutout size, are there any other differences between the 90mm cutouts and the 120mm cutouts you sell?

    • Thanks for your inquiry. Below is the listing of our standard 90mm cutout 12W downlight:

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/111483955395

As you can see the only major difference is the size, including cutout, height and diameter. Other specs are pretty much the same.

      Thanks
