iPad Air Refurbished or Fourth Gen Refurbished from Apple Store

My parents' ipad 2 is broken. I am thinking to get a replacement for them.
My option is to get an fourth generation refurbished ipad 16gb wifi only from apple store $369. They are using ipad for very basic functions only. I thought it would be worth to old eyes to get retina display for $50 more (ipad 2 refurbished 16 gb wifi only is $319).

My questions are:

  • should I spend a bit more $70 for ipad air 1refurb 16gb wifi only?
  • is there any store that I can get better deal?i e brand new instead of refurb, cheaper etc?
  • wat are ozbs experience with refurb from apple store

Many thanks

The ipad air is significantly lighter than the model before it (which was also heavier than the ipad 2).
I would suggest the air if this is important, it is also likely to run ios upgrades a generation or so longer.
I got my son a refurb ipad mini. I wouldn't have known it was not brand new.

  • Also iPad Air is 64-bit CPU architecture so it should be future proof.

IPad Air and 4 is the same

    • Uh what?

Ipad 4 is definitely not the same. It was the second retina model, but was refreshed with a lightning port instead of the 30 pin. The Air was the completely redesigned model.

I'd got with the air for sure. 64 bit makes it much more future proof, if that matters to you.

Apple store refurbs are great. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

  • Thanks all for the advice. Ipad Air it is.

  • if it was for your parents, go the Air
if for your parents-in-law, then the iPad 4 will suffice!
