  • For what it's worth AC:IV will be free on Xbox 360 second half of April.

    • But not for PS3! :D

      • Oh yeah true :) And also it's a nice collector's edition as well obviously.

  • Also, some more to add (but not worthy to be put in OP)

For all those Ozbargainers who bought a Nintendo 3DS for the first time at 20% off from Target last month, this is not a bad way to get a some of your new games to go with it.

Quite a few of those are the cheapest I found online and in stores. I did my price comparisons starting with the wonderful Comparegames search engine: See http://www.comparegames.com.au/3DS/Games.

(BTW, my family have had 3DS games for a long time but I bolstered that recently at Aldi (thanks Ozbargain), Target (thanks Ozbargain), EB Games, Blockbuster, Ozgameshop (actually based in UK) and MightyApe (based in Australia). My suggested "suitable for all ages and tastes" game is Mario Kart 7. Super Mario 3D Land for 3DS is another one apparently, although I don't have it. I am holding out for a decent price drop or discount. A decent Lego game is a must have for young kids, although can suit most ages. Lego Star Wars III for 3DS is a great one in my experience.)

    Tip:
    1. The price brackets don't have to match.
    2. Once you have two promotion items, all promotion items (quantity two or above) will be at half of the "2 for …" price.

At least my purchases worked this way. The EB staff I spoke to eagerly confirmed point 1.

eg. You can buy one of the 2 for $20, one of the 2 for $90 and one of the 2 for $60. They would each show on the docket as half of their "2 for…" price. ie. $10 + $45 + $30 in this example.

In addition to the "2 for …" deals, there are a lot of "Managers Specials". Some of these seem to be the lowest, particularly amongst stores you can walk into.

    Footnote:
Comparegames.com compares prices from a heap of online and physical shops. It does not seem to include Target who I found can be the best option for particular 3DS games, considering both price and convenience. The game thumbnail picture on Comparegames will display the www.metacritic.com rating score if there is one. There will also be a link to the full Metacritic rating and reviews. That way, you can be more careful of the low rating games (eg. scores below 70) by reading comments/reviews. I also found youtube reviews or gameplay videos to help greatly if unsure. Last but not least, EB Games has a 7 day return policy if you sign up to their VIP thing. In practice the 7 days would be too quick for me, but it might help some people.

Metacritic and similar review scores can help to flag up potential lemons, but never judge a game by just the score. Low scored games may still be good for particular people or groups, such as young kids for example. Similarly, high scoring games are not necessarily a good choice for all. (eg. Fire Emblem: Awakening has a metacritic score of 92, but it seems to be targeted at teens. The dialogs are a bit like a teenage soap opera. For that group though who like the genre, EB Games seems to have the marginally lowest price right now with their Manager's Special. (I haven't counted online sales of the US version, which wouldn't work on an Australian or European 3DS.)

This needs to be in bold in the main post!

  • Also worth noting that you can find some of the games cheaper on their ebay store with the 20% discount :)
