Sorry I got mixed up with the single month and contract, I was just editing my post as you replied.
but yeah the $90 contract has been posted https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/173745 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182260
Worth mentioning you get 6 months of Netflix included with the contract, and there's the option of swapping out the Fetch TV channels and speedpack for a $400+ tablet.

        • I got the $90 deal in january. Should i be getting the 6 months of netflix?

        • @bobdobal: You shouldn't be. But you may ask for it and you might get it.

        • @bobdobal:
THey will do it if you restart your contract for another 24 months.

  • Are people still getting the 100mbps speed pack if they ask/demand?

    • Yes, I got the speedpack free with the tablet plan

      • wow you got it with the tablet plan? I was told it wasn't possible.

        • Yea, I originally thought so as well, but after a few tries with a few different reps and doing some s.e. They gave me the speedpack and 6+6 months netflix free. Depends on the rep.

Edit: It also appears that they forgot to remove the entertainment pack from my account as I can still browse the channels with no charge.

    • Yes. I was on a cable only plan with speed pack. I recently contracted to a cable, home phone, fetch bundle and was told the speed pack would remain active.

Optus is great between 1am-7am every night, the rest of the time congestion means max speeds 95% of people get is 150KB/sec

    Optus is a joke

    • +2

Well that's not true for everyone.
      1) it depends on the bandwidth everyone else you're sharing the neighbourhood cable infrasrtucture is doing.
      2) It depends on what you're doing, e.g. Torrenting is probably throttled during those hours, where is video streaming isn't.

To prove my point, I just did a speed test (15:54 on Fri arvo) over wifi, whilst my kids are streaming HD youtube. And guess what did I get 150KB/sec? Nope I got 78Mb/s (~10MB/s)

As for the Offer, this isn't new, it's the exact same deal I got back in Dec, which they just keep extending.

I'm not agreeing with op but in my area I had congestion from 3pm-1am and my speeds would go up and down constantly but never as low as 150kb/s.

But after switching to telstra I don't have any problems.

    • I'm on Optus cable with speed pack and I don't find congestion a issue, maybe I'm just one the lucky ones. Just ran a speedtest around 7:30pm on Friday and I get over 90 Mb/s http://www.speedtest.net/result/4262121960.png

      also isn't this deal a dupe (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182260)

  • Bargain if it's unlimited mobile, broadband and TV.

  • What happens to the Fetch box if you cancel shortly after on the month to month plan?

Does it work without an Optus connection?

    • The FetchTV is free as is the rental of the FetchTV box. you can return it (you don't own it).
      So there's no real point?

I think you need to activate it on your Optus connection, but after that it might work on another ISP.

      • I think there's a clause in the exit conditions that if you don't return the fetch box you'll be charged a couple of hundred dollars or something like that

  • Seems decent, if you think of it as +$20 a month over TPG for the Fetch box with a decent amount of content. Not for me though.

  • Can anyone get the 100 Mbps speed pack upgrade for free?

    • You probably won't get it by default, I think you just ask for it as it is (or was) hinted at in the spiel.
I just called up & said "they forgot to add the speed pack (along with caller id, etc) & they apologised & added it.

      • did you call up after they activate the service?

        • +1

Yep, just called up[ afterwards & said "I was supposed to get it, but they forgot to add it & they organised it - took a few hours & a power cycle of the modem".
Some people mentioned it when signing up & were told they'd get it.

It seems to be they happy to enable it, but you just have to ask.

      • Are you referring to caller ID on the land line? I didn't ask for that to be enabled. Could be handy to block telemarketers.

        • Yeah, for us inbound & outbound caller ID weren't working.
I'm not sure if blocks telemarketers as you can't see who is calling you (inbound)
and out bound I suppose it woukd stop someone seeing you're number.

  • want to get the bundles with samsung tablet, but im with telstra cable at the moment ($129/month without landline). My contract end at 30th of june this year.
Is there anyway that i can get this deal, but activate it on 1st of July?

    • +1

If you are a light user, I reckon you should stick with Telstra. My kids would use 200 Gigs in 2-3 weeks easily so I moved to this optus deal at the end of Feb.

So far, at least two nights with the speed dropped down to next-to-nothing, and brief drop-outs are frequent. These issues weren't there when I was with BigPond Telstra.

Other than that, the speeds I have got from both Telstra and Optus are pretty much the same: up to 90+ mbps off-peak, average speed of peak time would be around 40 - 65 mbps

      • serious? 200gigs in 2-3 weeks?
My my, i download a lot of movies, same to my friend, but we never have problem
But thank you for ur infor^^

  • Is cable only available in metro areas like brisbane/sydney?

    • Depends. I had it at my last house in very outer SE Melb. Moved house in same suburb (approx 3km away) and can't get it here!

      • I live in Cairns so I've never even seen a cable modem. I just want NBN so I can get onto the exetel 500GB 100/40 plan, same price I'm paying now $80/month.

        • NBN and cable as such are two different things.
Cable is what people like Optus used to rollout for their pay tv, and then I guess it was also used for Internet.
You'd have to check out NBNCO to see if there's a rollout date for NBN in your area.

  • is optus nbn reliable?
or should i upgrade to telstra nbn instead?
    any idea?

If I already on the $115pm contract - can they change it to $90pm?

    • I just called up and did this. You have to re-sign for 24 months though.

  • Just so you are all aware, I've been waiting 6 weeks for my Fetch TV to turn up. Originally quoted 10days and now quoting up to 8 weeks. Demand has outstripped supply.

    • How is the download speed? As quoted? Do you get your tablet on time?

    • +1

For each month your Fetch TV set top box doesn't arrive you should receive $20 credit. The delay notice is now on each product website page.
