We have a fantail goldfish that was about 5cm when we purchased it. It is now about 5 years old and has almost outgrown the bloomin tank! I don't know if we just purchased a super powered goldfish or we just got lucky / unlucky. The fish cannot be killed off.

I am giving this post a + just because of the haliarious comments I have read so far… And yes it is a great deal too :)

  • My turtle will love his free meal!

What kind of a breed is "5CM"?

    • +1

It's the very rare and much sought after, Imperial Pentacostal Metric variety…

i bet yah these must be sick fish who would make your other fish sick and die, and then you go and buy more from these guys.

They'll probably die in a few days time.

    • PETstock would have purchased them for 30c or 40c each

Imagine the poor lil fish. They must be willing so worthless

  • +1

They will be making their money on accessories

    Fish food
    Water conditioner
    Air Pump
    Filter
    Tank

And the list goes on & on & on….

    • you can just use an empty coke bottle to house the fish…

Just wonder if pet shop may get in trouble about animal cruelty issue?
but I think people will only care if they are giving cats or dogs, not a fish.

It does seem like a bit of a silly promotion to offer someone a living creature for free. What if people don't have the time, means or knowledge to handle the fish and they only accept it because it is free? It will be a sad end for a lot of fishes, I think.

        Every fish has its day.

Sounds reminiscent of the outcry that finally canned the (goldfish) ‘Live Show Bag’ at the Japanese Pearl Exhibit stand from the Brisbane Ekka: http://www.animalactivism.org/documents/subpages/attachment_…

        • Interesting read. It's good some people have the courage to stand up and fight animal cruelty as the animals cannot do it themselves. Hopefully the people that receive these fish will get them for the right reasons.

  • How do you prove you have a suitable fish tank?
do they just take your word on this or do you need to bring in proof

  • +1

I think COTD should follow suit and give out free SeaMonkeys.
Logistics and animal cruelty won't be an issue, but server crashes will.

    • +1

Nobody from here will buy them though cause we get enough entertainment from the monkeys on here.

  • Can u simply print the voucher from the catalogue, or do u have to have an original copy from an actual cataglogue?? Does anyone know, cant quite read the fine print in the voucher from online catalogue? thanks

    • The small print on the voucher basically says as I posted in the original bargain.

"Limit of one goldfish per person. Type of goldfish may vary in each store. Person presenting voucher must own or be purchasing a suitable tank for the fish, otherwise PETstock staff reserve the right to dishonor the voucher."

The only other small print on the brochures says as follows:

"Items are available at the time of printing (pending supplies stock availability). All specials may not be available in all stores. No rainchecks. RRP may very from store to store. Retail quantities only. Limites may apply to some items. Sale dates as per front of catalogue, or while stocks last. ABN:80098394588. Limits may apply on some products (Except in SA). RU_PET0821".

Don't know if that really answers your question but at least you know what's on the original brochure. IMO you should not be refused your free goldfish with a printed version of the brochure - the entire catalogue is available online from their web site - just tell them you printed the catalogue after being told about the sale by a friend. You might find brochures are available in-store ala Coles / Safeway.

Haha that reminds me of like three years ago. When Kingsley's Chips (best hot chips around EVER) were giving away free large chips no catches. The funny thing was that they had like a million of those vouchers at every kingsley's branch rofl. I think I eventually felt slightly guilty and bought some gravy too….that's when they got me hooked on their gravy…those bastards, gravy is so expensive like $1.50 each lol.

i'm so conflicted…i feel sorry for the fishie yet i kinda want a pet to talk to :T

  • So does that mean I can't raise it in my toilet?
