Vaustralia Travel Back Dilemma

Hi Ozbargainers,

I purchased a flight with Vaustralia but due to unforeseen circumstances I had to cancel it, they refused to credit the amount to my credit card but instead created a Travel bank account with 12 month expiry.

11 month later, they are refusing to extend the expiry of the account. At the moment due to circumstances I cannot travel.

I need advice please, how/could i extent the expiry?

Cheers,

Buy a flexible fare to somewhere you see yourself flying to in the future. Just keep moving the date of the flexible fare back until you can travel.

  • Your best option would be to ask dept fair trading.

it really depends on what the t&cs of the ticket were regarding cancelling your ticket. if the credit & expiry were clearly described then it is not really the airline's fault. spend it or lose it.

  • I think i'll go with derpdeber's suggestion…but the problem is i don't know which country to choose. Would i be possible to change actual flight rout not just the dates…as some fares (premium economy) have $0 Booking change fees?

If you can use the credit for another traveller, then you can book a flight for a friend/ family member or even effectively "sell" the credit at a discount.

  • How much are we talking?

    • It was a trip for the family so ~$8k

  • I have travel bank too, it says to use before sept this year, does that mean fly before then or at least book before then and can fly later?

    • To book before then
