1L for about $6 at costco (adelaide has it, can't speak for other stores) if you're a member

    • Dont think I've seen it here in NSW :(

      Love the stuff

    • Down to $4.89 on the weekwnd :)

    • Costco Canberra had it for a while, but is out at the moment.

They also had Frank's red hot, but I haven't seen that in months either.

      :(

      • I asked one of the managers and She said that they'll get Frank's Red Hot sauce back in about 3 months time because their contract with them still stood.

Bought. Tried. Far from being 'hot' sauce. Tabasco with mediocre boost at best. But yea, good price nonethelesss.

    • I tried this one and a bunch of other hot sauce but none of them is spicy hot enough for me. "Extra Hot Chili Sauce" (ABC) and "Cock Sauce" Sriracha (Huy Fong Foods) are much better. Above all, I love fresh chilies in my meals.

      • +4

If you like ABC chili sauce type, you gotta try Cap Ibu Jari. About same hotness, but much better taste.

        • +2

you gotta try Cap Ibu Jari

+1 This is a staple in our house. Could eat it with a spoon. So. Good.

        • +1

Too bad, it's not available at my local Colworths or Asian grocery stores. I like ABC as it goes along well with dried food or fried stuff. Sriracha is best accompanied with soups.

I'm so disappointed with some US-type sauces because they are not hot enough or way too sour that they destroy the taste of my food. Peri peri, among those, is a disaster though I quite like Nando's chook.

To be honest, I nearly passed out eating too many chilies several times before but it doesn't stop me chewing on those fresh, hot, little monsters.

        • @waterlogged turnip: Is it "Hot" or not? I believe it is supposed to be more hot than ABC. Just asking because u eat it with a spoon.

        • @UglyPanda:

I have to answer you coz the correct assumption.

It's on different league than real hot sauce like Sudden Death by Blair's. But compared to ABC, for everyday meal consumption, it's a tad hotter. As others said, Cock sauce again a bit hotter, but i somewhat dislike its acidic taste. Between those last 2, I can put in chili sauce Dua Belibis but it has sweet aftertaste that put off many people.

        • @UglyPanda: Lol! "Eat it with a spoon" doesn't necessarily mean "eat a spoonful of it" but I do believe that he means it is hot!!! Anyway, I'm gonna search for it and some other hot sauces at my local stores. Don't want to order online because shipping cost to Darwin is not cheap at all.

          Or you can try this:

          http://www.hotsaucefever.com/hotsauce/dua-belibis-saus-cabe/

I bought this from an Asian grocery shop at Baulkham Hills NSW. I can't find this chilli sauce anywhere else.

Perfect for shrimp, imo. Thanks to the MSG inside lol!

        • I've never seen it but will go hunting! Thanks

        • @stevarja: By any chance do u know a chilli sauce that doesn't have an acidic or sweet after taste ?

        • @UglyPanda: Have u tried this Sambal Pemuda

        • @stevarja:
No I've not tried it yet. I will try to get it. Hope its available in Asian stores.

    • Thanks @stevarja. You saved me a trip to woolies and few dollars.

I suggest "Lao Gan Ma" Chili Sauce, you can find it from most Chinese groceries shop in Sydney. It has various flavor, all very hot and very tasty. price range between AU$1.6 - $3.0. Here is a picture: http://www.amazon.com/Lao-Gan-Chili-Crisp-Sauce/dp/B0051D84J…

Ah, but that's chili oil, and i call that mother brand coz i really have no idea how to read the letters. And have you tried the one with bean? Somewhat hotter with traces of sichuan pepper taste. For chilli oil, my Aussie friends prefer Lee Kum Kee's Chiu Chow not less hot, but also more straight natural chili like you stir fry yourself (less MSG taste).

        • You two should try Chilli Bean Paste. There's a Taiwanese brand thats hot, pungent and is the right ingredient for Mapo Tofu.

Mapo Tofu, the only Tofu dish worth making.

        • @cheapy: Which brand? Coz if Lee Kum Kee's, tried that, not a fan. It's like specialised for soups or that sort of dish.

        • @stevarja:

          This one. http://www.holyshitake.com/images/steamedribs/chilipaste.jpg

You can buy it at Asian Markets in Footscray.

        • @cheapy: Cool, i'll give it a try, gave me reason to go there.

        • +1

@stevarja: If u do there go to Dong Ba for a Bun Bo Hue.

I think u maybe able source that product elsewhere too. Richmond, Boxhill, etc.

        • @cheapy: One of my favorite soups. Best to eat with chili oil, fresh chilies and shrimp paste, kangkong, banana flowers and herbs!!!

I'm gonna cook it this weekend.

      • Chili oil…Yum… Love when I stir-fry seafood and veggies with it or use it with some VN style noodles and soups. I'm drooling!

    It's Tapatio… with an A… just sayin.

  • Anyone know where I can get the smoked hickory bbq sauce cost co sometimes stock?

    • -2

      Costco

    • +5

I use the excellent Sweet Baby Rays Hickory brown sugar BBQ sauce which I first bought through Aldi who have a batch on clearance very so often for $3/18oz bottle. Can be bought through usafoods.com.au for about $6. I went into a Safeway in the USA and they had them on special for $1/bottle, managed to fit 10 of them into my luggage!

      • What did the Quarantine people say when you declared it on your arrival back into Oz?

        • +4

All good and declared, sealed retail products are rarely an issue (provided they aren't Larks' tongues. Wrens' livers. Chaffinch brains. Jaguars' earlobes. Wolf nipple chips. Get 'em while they're hot. They're lovely. Dromedary pretzels, only half a denar. Tuscany fried bats).

When I told them how good the sauce was they were happy it was all for personal use.

        • +2

I bought some chilli sauce I found in Singapore I loved. I was at the rear of the line at quarantine after hopping off the plane. There was a customs guy walking the line and obviously everyone else had checked no to everything. He gets to me and I show that I have bought some food back. He takes me to the front of the line and I'm out in no time. It's worked twice now. Maybe it's a Darwin thing.

        • +1

@DarwinBoy: are you white? I've found when i'm on a flight back from asia, even if i declare food (which i always do), i'm straight to the front of the line whereas everyone asian gets their bags inspected. Stereotype seems to work as i see them pulling big bags of fish etc.. out of their bags though haha

        • @DarwinBoy: You're lucky man. I remember first time arrived in AUS, I was asked by a Darwin custom officer to open my luggages to check for dangerous goods. I was so embarrassed and scared at the same time because I brought with me tons of things: cooking utensils (pots, pan, chopping board, chinese ware, silverware, even sharp knives!!! About foods, I packed some Oolong tea, ground coffee and a whole box of instant noodles (they are damn cheap in my home country).

Fortunately, I carefully packed my stuff and truthfully declared all of them so the guy trusted me and didn't cause any hassle.

The second time flew back to Darwin, I didn't bring anything else but my clothes, shoes and books. This time, custom guys didn't bother to check my luggages and I went through the line easily.

Anyway, I've never seen any trained dogs at Darwin airport. Really want to see how they do their job to detect forbidden stuff.

Hot Cock (Sriracha) is 1000 times better

    • +6

If you didn't put the brand name in brackets then it would be quite concerning.

    • -1

sriracha is over hyped garlic chilli sauce….

      • Agree, but can you show me something else as tasty for less money?

      • There are so many different varieties and styles of sriracha this statement is virtually meaningless.

    • I personally disagree but I guess people like different things. They taste quite different so they're not really that comparable.

  • +1

This hot sauce is bloody awesome - it's very similar to the byron bay chilli co stuff.

    • I have the Habanero Byron one, and its just sugar syrup. Quite unappealing. I know the other flavours are different ingredients, but I got turned off already.

  • Am I the only person that thinks the guy looks like Archer in a crappy disguise?

  • Couldn't find in the 2 Vic stores I checked at for it today (fyi)

  • Was full price at my local Woolies (MacArthur Central). :(

  • +1

Hot sauce and chilli sauce are two different things.
Cap Ibu Bari is certainly the BEST chilli sauce. Quality stuff there.

Best hot sauce IMO is El Yucateco, but its not cheap. Habanero Tobasco is good too, and Chapitos burnt chilli touch is great.

I remember enjoying Slap ur Mamma Louisiana Hot Sauce recently too.

Many of the rest are too vinegary, but they have an application, just like Rooster cock sauce.

I still have a bunch of Blair's death sauce that seems to last forever.
