Samsung E3309T Mobile Phone (Optus) + Bonus 3-Month Netflix Subscription for $19 from Target

450

Much the same as the previous optus prepaid deal as per this silverrat23 deal

This deal is for a free 3-month Netflix subscription from activating an Optus prepaid mobile phone(via the included sim).

Target has the Samsung E3309T for $19 (Normally $29). Not as cheap as the ZTE but if your local Coles has run out of them this is a decent alternative. It ends up being $6.33 per month for Netflix.

Activate the included sim and optus should text you a link to your netflix code.

Is it sd Netflix code or hd

    • The way they word parts of the ToS makes it HD but other than that not too sure.

    • When you redeem your code you will get $35.90 of credit to use on your Netflix account. It doesn't matter what plan you are on.

I took advantage of the ZTE promo. My notes:

      • You must activate the SIM, as the URL will be SMS'ed to that phone number.
      • The SMS took about a week, but apparently may take up to 14 days.
      • The URL will take you to an Optus site, where you click on a button to receive a netflix code
      • You go to your netflix account, and enter it into the 'gifts and offers' section of 'your account'.
      • Netflix says "Your gift of A$35.97 has been applied to your account."
So it is 3 months of '2 Screens (HD)'. But I guess you could select any plan, and the credit would apply to that.

Oh and there seems to be no limit as to how many codes you can activate. So on a totally unrelated note… Would anyone like to buy a ZTE handset from me!

      • Great explanation.

Confirmed with Netflix over the weekend that the Optus code is only for the standard plan. That's not say you can trial in the Ultra HD plan though in your first free month.

You may want to get them to change the plan or confirm with their support though before the month is over to ensure your optus credit is going to get you 3 months.

      • Takes forever to get the Netflix code from optus. I activated 3 weeks ago and still yet to get it. Had to call up Optus. They are now following it up. Just saying.. don't expect a quick turn around for the code!

        Netflix aside,

The ZTE phone works like a wonder for 14 bucks. It was like classic Nokia phone but with modern feeling of phone
It can even play 240p JAV ,itai itai iku iku, ^&!@%^($%!@^&) which is great
And lastly , the phone battery is very long-lasting , I havent charge it for 1 week (if you stand by the phone)

This comment will be censored in 3,2,1…

      • My gift was $20 something. I used it on my American Netflix account. ;)

      • Sadly on the Australian Netflix account there is no way to see how much credit you have in your Account section unlike the USA Netflix Account section. Weird. The only way to find out is from the Netflix live chat.

Have a US Netflix account but am tempted to cancel it and switch to an Netflix Australian account in case Netflix tries to remove the credit applied to US accounts, or someother issue that could arise from it not be applied to an Australian account.

    • I got my (2) Netflix codes sent to my (2) new phones via SMS in less than 24 hours after activation.

      • u got lucky.. im still waiting

  • Phone specs

Good price for a basic GSM phone. Had a similar Nokia one back in the day. Found plenty of games available to run on these type of phones at that resolution.

    Woahhh……a phone with buttons!!!!

  • Is the phone locked to Optus?
Is locking handsets to networks still a thing? I hope not.

    • Yes and yes

      • +1

Does it work with Optus resellers?

        • +2

          Works on amaysim for us

  • Time for some more Netflix.

  • this one or zte f286 from coles?

    • Which ever you can find.

  • The ZTE is terrible as an mp3 player. the inbuilt speaker sound as good as from the sound board.
However I am sure noone buying it intends to use it as their everyday phone.

Sold mine for $10.- which makes Netflix 1.66 monthly…

      • I cannot understand why people will pay $10 to buy a phone without Netflix instead of go to Coles?

        • +2

Because they don't know about this deal?

        • This is not exactly the phone the Netflix generation goes for. Someone who needs just the phone saves a few bucks.

  • how can i unlock this phone?

    • via eBay

  • Is the netflix offer only eligible for new patrons?

    • +1

No, it's a code that adds credit to existing or new accounts

  • -2

    Screen res isn't good enough

  • So my trial is now a standard subscription. If I were to buy this, would it automatically stop charging monthly until the 3 months are up?

    • +1

Nah the way it works is they give you a code that you redeem for a $35.97AUD credit to your Netflix account which is then used to pay the subscription cost

      • -1

I'd laugh if they give you the code for $35.97AUD credit, then decide to jack their prices up before you can redeem it lol

        • Blame the govt for imposing GST

Nice find Bleemo! I will buy the phone as a burner, pity it isn't flip so I can do the cool snap with it.

    • Thanks Barley. Perfect burner phone #ASIO

  • Looks like the Optus Activate page is not working.

    • It has been flakey for the last few weeks.
I don't even think it's load related, it is just a crappy system.

      • I am tactivating my SIM now and it is asking me to choose a plan. Which plans did you guys choose? I dont intend to use the phone much or at all.

        • I just picked the $1/day plan… I have no intention of using it though.

        • @BluBoy: So basically if you dont use it to call/text etc you wont get charged. Is that right? I assume that receiving calls is fine… It might be a useful phone for my mum who doesnt make many calls.

  • Just bought these and activated. However these came with separate prepaid sims as the sim inside the box have expired. Will i still get the voucher or should i be contacting optus?

    • just got told by optus I will be getting the voucher but he said I will be getting 6 months free?? Not sure if its because i am existing broadband and postpaid customer but dont care as long as this is true. fingers crossed.

  • Hopefully I can order online. My local only stocks Telstra handsets.

Scratch that, Coles had one of the ZTEs left.

  • anyone know how to turn 3g off for this phone?
