Shares Investment: Strategy, Recommendations & Speculation?

I find Shares investment quiet fun and interesting and have a balance of low-high risk investments.
However many would argue the current Australian Shares market has been doing it more tough lately. What shares investment strategy/approach would you recommend to others? With some of these blue chip stocks at a potentially great value, there could be some opportunities/risks. What shares would you stand by?

Buy shares from solid businesses that gives a high dividend to cost ratio. If the price goes up it's a bonus.

I don't really like to buy shares purely for growth. You'll end up the bag holder for the companies shit decisions in the end. You never have enough information soon enough to save yourself as an everyday investor when the shit hits the fan. Unless of course you want to invest the time in learning to read charts and research companies, then you might be able to find some good opportunities.

  • The banks are currently at 5-6% yield fully franked at the current price. I'm looking to buy more :)

    • I agree. Good dividends and prices aren't bad now either

The australian market is down about 6.6% from previous highs, with the markets being very choppy at the moment you can never go wrong with an Australian ETF such as VAS, STW etc
