The tablets are selling for $98 each. If you sign up to one of Harvey Norman's newsletters you will receive a code for $25 off minimum $150 spend, so if you buy two, after the code you will pay $171 (click and collect).
But wait, there's more, Microsoft are offering $25 cashback when you buy and activate a device with Office 365, so you should get $50 cashback for them, making it $121 for both/ $60.50 each.

I know they wouldn't be the greatest tablets, but could be good for the kids. I am not sure when HN's price will change on these.

  • Is it a mini HDMI or MicroHDMI?

    Thanks OP!

Hmm, description says mini but specs say micro…

  • Since when is 1gb enough to run Win8?
My laptop idles on 1.1gb ram on boot

    • This is suitable for basic usage using the Modern UI.

You don't, or rather shouldn't use this tablet like an ordinary PC, if you went ahead and installed and use the usual desktop apps like Firefox, 3rd party antivirus software, dropbox, utorrent and use them in the background you'll find yourself quickly running out of RAM.

      • Yep - it's a handy little device for carrying around spreadsheets, tables and the like with the ability to edit in the field - I grabbed an 8" Pendo android for 1/2 that price for a similar purpose. With the best value office deal here:
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/195155

It's still only an additional cost of ~$36 each to display and use it on. Note the 60 Skype minutes a month you get only works for landlines in Australia :-/ Microsoft must be the only ones who can't [officially] have our metadata data lol

        • How come there is always someone whinging about "when is 1gb ram enough?" Every time anyone posts a tablet deal?

  • Stay connected? That'll only happen if I grab the I9250 Galaxy Nexus they have on special at Marion - reduced from $458 to $399. I was thinking of posting that as a special, but they probably only have one:-)
[They did manage to shift the Nexus 10 onto me for $250 last Jan, but that is a totally different beast.I'm a bit scared of what else they may find in the back..]

Just had a look at one of these. Awful viewing angles and only just usable when looking straight on. Get what you pay for….

    • That's the positive side!

    • Sounds like an additional security feature to prevent over the shoulder viewers

    • The horizontal viewing angles are fine - I don't notice much difference until about 45 degrees from straight-on viewing. The vertical viewing angle however is pretty awful - at about 10 degrees the picture colours are quite distorted.

Still you get what you pay for and in this case you're paying for something that can have a Full HD monitor plugged in via micro HDMI, and a keyboard and mouse via Bluetooth or OTG… ie. a complete computer that you can occasionally unplug and forgive for having a crappy screen :-)

1GB RAM! would pass less than 4GB for windows but the price is good as photo frame or something

  • can the 2 office 365 for 1 year be stacked and become 2 years ?

    Arrived today.

    • Memory usage is about 60% at boot (600MB)
    • 16Gb is 9gb accessible with 6gb available
    • Screen resolution is 1280x800 and doesn't look very good, I am not a high res elitist (I prefer 27" at 1080 than 1440), but the jaggies are very visible on this screen
    • viewing angles are pretty bad, but only really in the up and down, not left and right (as viewed in landscape)
    • includes USB OTG cable, 1.5A charger and a screen protector pre-installed
    • Performance seems good, haven't really tested this as most of the default windows apps are crap and need to be replaced before I can actually do anything
    • Windows 8 seems to be quite annoying to use with a touch screen, but I will look into changing it's behaviour
    • I suspect it would benefit from either an alternative interface designed for touch (if one exists for windows), or some sort of Linux OS (if something good exists)

Me thinks the resolution is not set at the native res of the lcd panel. Doesn't seem like there's an easy way to change it.
