Watch AFL Global Free Streaming for Round 10 All Matches, Needs Geo-Unblock (E.g. Getflix)

390

You'll need a geo-unblock service to access this offer. I've used AFL Global before and Getflix supports it, I believe UnoTelly do also.

For me it provides a great picture and for an Apple TV user it's able to be airplayed.

Your Free Pass is available online at www.watchafl.com, so just login and subscribe to FREE PASS – with the pass remaining valid until Tuesday June 9th – 16:00 (GMT).

6 Month Passes will be available for purchase from Tuesday 9th June and Annual Passes will remain available to purchase until Thursday 11th June.
If you’re back in Australia – we would love for you to forward the FREE round offer to friends, family or work colleagues that are currently outside Australia.

  • Vote for being a PIES fan. Great win last week. Will be interesting to see what the vote tally will be like (for being a PIES fan).

    • C'mon Eddie, you don't need to push the pies all the time :)

      C'mon Doggies.

      • Doggies are my second team. I think they're everyone's second team.

Please explain your definition of 'Greatest'?
Because for most, I would think it would at least include winning 16 Premierships!
Plus I could throw in the fact that we've beaten you 125 times out of 250 matches… with 4 draws.
Won 14 of our 22 finals encounters & 5 of the 6 times we've met at the big one!!!
Must be the effects of the novacane from your most recent dental trip! ;)

Not bad, can watch Freo get their 10th win of the season now ;)

    • Given that's the Friday night match it would be on free to air anyway, but with this at least you can watch it without ads.

      • Is the streaming quality better than Channel 7's 'quality'? Definition wise.

        • For me airplaying it to Apple TV the picture is better than the standard channel 7. At least it was when I last used it which was the free round last year. Would depend on who your ISP is as well.

      • Ah good point, I don't often get to watch them now that I live in Brisbane.

    • its called Freeo for a reason

  • +1

Great stuff. I've been wanting to test this service before deciding whether the 6 month pass is worth it.

    • Same for me, gives me a good chance to test it to see how well it works on my tv.

  • I think this service is way too expensive. Last year it was only $89 for an annual pass and this year it has gone up to $149!

Foxtel have no lock in at the moment and is $50 per month for sports package. If you already have outlet equipment installed there is only a $25 postage fee for a new box (old IQHD box gets included if you sweet talk the operator). Quality of Foxtel HD is 100% better plus you get a heap of other channels as a bonus.

The longer you sign up, the more offers you can get.

    • +1

Technically it's $60/month as HD is an additional $10/month.

      • True, SD is probably slightly above the global pass service being streamed via AirPlay. Both services crap all over the local iPhone pass being offered to Australia.

I finished up signing up for 6 months so they threw in the HD and sports for the first 2 months, then I will pay full price for 1 month ($60), then cut it back to $25 thereafter. $210 all up for the 6 months, but like I said there are other channels included which I will watch.

        • +1

$60 a month, might as well just turn up to the games.

        • So for 3 of the 6 months you will be paying $25 and not getting the sports channels? So in your scenario you've paid $210 for three months of sport (plus other Foxtel content, which for the last three months on the basic $25 plan is mostly rubbish)? Doesn't really sound like great value to me.

      • $51.25 on a 12 month telstra contract, with free install and IQHD box.

        https://www.telstra.com.au/entertainment/foxtel-from-telstra

    • I agree it is too expensive, but for this round it's free. No way I'd pay for it or Foxtel. If only AFL operated a free overseas live stream like the NRL does then all we would need is the geo-unblocker.

Reality is that for me most weeks I'm only looking to watch a match on Friday and Saturday nights and generally they're always on free to air.

      • If you signed up with the codes on Ozbargain on 31-May, you'd have free access for your phone or tablet until 31 July !!!

        • +1

Watching the Greatest sporting club in the world on my phone or tablet just doesn't cut it! I would rather listen to the ABC radio broadcast.

Watching the Greatest sporting club in the world on my phone or tablet just doesn't cut it!

          "free" wins for me…

(it's not that bad on an iPad)

  • I use the watchafl with getflix every week after foxtel couldnt provide me with IQ or HD functionality. The streaming hooked up to my 42" HD TV is not HD - but its better than SD Foxtel without a doubt.

The only annoying thing is at qtr/half time, the same ads for WatchAFL roll… ALL-SEASON-LONG. Seriously, it drives me mad - I've already paid for the service, why keep berating me with the same ads for 24 weeks! ARGH!

    • You paid for the service and still get ads? :(

      • +1

Only during qtr/half time. And when i say ads.. Its more like a 'your watching watch afl, the official broadcast for international viewers of the afl' type ad. Still get the halftime shows, but instead of tv ads, you get the same annoying infomercial about watch afl

  • Let me know if they do this for Round 11…
There's a good chance we won't lose that one!!!

Why, you have the bye ???

Their Android app is really bad….also their website is rubbish. Horrible to nav on my nexus 7 tablet.

All the app does is open the website ??? wtf ??? its got 2.5 rating in the playstore but deserves 1….instant uninstall.

    • Yes, it's a useless, garbage app.

For those of us currently residing in different parts of Asia, 6 ad-free games are available every weekend on Australia+.

  • Got it all hooked up via HDMI out on laptop.

Quality is OK but they are only streaming from the fox SD channel, which would be less than 720p? and it just seems generally jerky, not worth the money imo.

    • From their site:

We utilise adaptive streaming technology that automatically adjusts to your internet connection.

        800 kbit/s; 25.000 fps;

      • 512 x 288

First I'd like to say thanks to the OP for posting this one .. have been curious to try it for a while.

I watched a couple of games yesterday using a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 connected to my 42" 1080p TV via HDMI.

Is the quality better than channel 7's downmixed AFL broadcasts?
I'd say yes and no. "Yes" because the resolution is higher with less artifacting. "No" because on most moving scenes the picture loses clarity and definition and also because, as another person mentioned, the picture is a bit jerky, certainly not smooth. They may claim 25 fps, but I can tell you it isn't. Chan7 is much smoother, even though the picture quality is poor.
Despite the jerkiness it is still watchable. Any more jerky, then it wouldn't be.
It is still much better than the rubbish quality served up on AFL Live Pass.

Is it worth the $149 annual fee? If you have no other access to watch games, probably yes, but otherwise not worth it for me. If they presented a higher selectable bitrate (say 5Mbps) and also got rid of the jerkiness then it probably would be worth it.
