Great price for the Nexus 6! I love mine.

  • Love the price

  • yeah, I just bought the G3 for the ~$390 deal.
If the N6 was a lot closer to $500 I would have got it.

  • HK Version. Missing some bands

    • Yeah the Asus is missing 700MHz(28) But has all the other by the looks of it

  • wow the Asus price has gone up. DWI was selling it for 350 for the past 2 months.

  • should i buy nexus 6 or s6 . cant decide

    • Nexus 6 is too large…s6 might be too small if you are a note user…i would say go for a note 4

      • i have note 2. but my partner has note 4. im leaning towards s6 edge or nexus 6. still cant decide. if i were to get this nexus i get 10% tax return when i leave australia for holiday.

This is a grey import Nexus 6, so not TRS GST refund sorry.

        • @kulprit:
          thanks for the input.

        • @jzlim5888:
Get an S6. Just everything is better bar stock Android.

        • @kulprit:
Correct me if I am wrong, DWI is importing the phone and selling it locally therefore GST chargeable and if so TRS GST refund applicable.

        • @ntongeng: You might be correct ntongeng. I just thought that all DWI stock was actually shipped in from overseas directly to the customer.

Anyone else able to weigh in and help.

        • +2

          @kulprit:
You are right, I just checked with DWI all items shipped from overseas. According to reply DWI is Hong Kong based therefore cannot charged GST. So, No TRS refund.

        • @ntongeng: I can confirm this as well. Just ordered a Galaxy S5 and it's come direct from Hong Kong. Of course, this wasn't explicitly mentioned on their web site besides comments alluding to being liable for customs/import duties buried within their terms and conditions…

        • @Minotaur:
Actually it is mentioned in their website under the heading "Delivery" Q & A
Do you have a store where I can pick up the items?
No, there is no physical store in Australia. We are an online retailer only. All our products are shipped from overseas and sourced from international suppliers.
They are doing so much businesses here that they have a local agent to deal with warranty etc. Well, cannot complain as they are providing us the opportunity to buy the same item available locally but at a lower price.

      • The nexus 6 and note 4 is close to being the same size.

I chose the Note 4, but in some ways I wish I went with the nexus 6 instead. I am hoping that Samsung puts out an update to Android 5.11 that improves the performance of TW.

  • As someone who dropped their Nexus 4 last night, is the Zenfone 2 a worthwhile upgrade at $409?
+ Assume Vaya (Optus) 4G will work OK on it?

FWIW: I had no complaints about my Nexus 4 up until this point.

You are unlikely to get any Optus 4g reception with the HK version. If you really need 4g you should go for the more expensive Taiwan version

      • Do you know what uses band 2600?

    • +1

I did exactly the same thing! Got the basic Zenfone 2 (2G/16G) for ~$250 from Kogan. Took a couple of weeks to arrive but good enough for me. :)

You should get the Taiwan version, it's $439 delivered on eBay

    • +1

You should get a nexus 5

      • +1

If you want horrendous battery life. Yes, I'm posting this comment using my nexus 5.only if battery life was good, it would be a half decent phone

    • +1

If you are curious about import phones I Have the OnePlus One and it gets Optus 4G

      • Most phones are fine, it's just this particular version of Zenfone that doesn't get Optus.

Ebay has the Taiwanese version (optus working) for like $40 more.

As a Nexus 4 owner I can only say that the zenfone 2 64gb/ 4gb / intel z3580 is great!

I bought mine along with a base model 720p screen as a bundle with a $45 off coupon.

At a Harvey Norman sale last night I picked up some superseded Note 3 cases, which fit, for $1 each. 😹

I am on Telstra but you should look up the usual specs sites like gsmarena for the supported 4g bands.

It is like a slightly bigger, faster Lollipop equipped Lg G2.😉
      Feels great in the hand.

I ordered my 2x order from DWI around a month ago.
On a Friday. Received the phones the following Monday. I was astounded!

If you are getting the Zenfone 2 I would suggest getting it from ebay off qd_au. He sells the Taiwan version for like $40 more and it has the 700MHz which the telcos are going to use for their super fast networks. People on whirlpool have bought from him and have had good experiences.

Hmmm … mighty tempting at this price.

Anyone know if the CPU architecture matters as much as the GPU architecture? By this I mean:

If an app (well meaning game mostly) is compatible with ARM + PowerVR does this mean Atom + PowerVR can be counted on to be compatible?

I have no experience at all with Android on Intel.

    Oh and there's this: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/06/01/asus_reveals_its_new…

    • Most major applications are compiled with both the arm and x86 native libraries so there is essentially no performance loss.

For other smaller apps, a library called Houdini is used to convert all applications from the arm instruction set to x86 on the fly. So there is a bit of performance overhead in this case, and this is generally not a good option for apps requiring high performance (games and benchmarking type apps).

Here's a bit more discussion on Intel hardware running Android in general
      http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/2kcg3l/how_big_of_a…

      • Ah thanks for that.

Do you have any experience as far as games? Are most of the games you like compiled for Atom or is there some major ones you miss as far as "AAA" (is that a thing for mobile?) games like EA, Gameloft, Madfinger and so on?

Also I gather that sideloading apps if you were to say use a modded apk - that's all pretty much out with Intel or at least I cannot recall seeing anything regarding CPU architecture which means presumaby it's all ARM. Which would be a big sacrifice for me and how I use my device.

        • I have the zenfone 6 (original) and the performance has never been an issue for me - plenty fast enough to play any phone games that I've tried. It does randomly crash on some apps though. The zenfone 2 might be better in this regard.

Also, don't rely on Asus to release updates; still no lollipop for the zenfone 4/5/6 - even though they said it would be released months ago.

  • +11

Man, you guys know so much about the technology here. I just stick my phone up to my face and talk to it - and if i'm lucky, someone talks back!

    • +3

It's time to start worrying if you notice your phone is off just after you hear a reply :p

  • IF i buy from DWI, does anyone know if 28 dgerees or the coles mastercard price protection feature will be valid, given that they arnt located in Australia?

    • +2

Don't think so. But read the terms and conditions of the price protection

      • +1

Terms and conditions defintely states brought in Australia, but Kogan and some of the other grey importer claims have been passed through as other users have claimed.
Just hoping to hear some recent cases, where claims for purchases from DWI was allowed.

    • I want to know too

  • Hard to recommend Asus Zenfone 2 @ this price.

    • Elaborate?

  • When will this expire.

  • mod delete this comment please

Thanks OP, I got a Nexus 6 to replace my Nexus 5.

Tip for others, you can use the coupon OP mentioned above for the $10 discount, or you can upgrade to Priority Shipping and apply the code PAYPALPREMIUM2015 after choosing PayPal to get $9.90 discount off the priority shipping making it free.

There's only 10c difference off the total discount but if you would rather it arrive quicker for pretty much the same discount, that's also an option.

Put the phone into the basket/cart and then click Checkout with Paypal (showing full price), then navigate through the PayPal screens before it redirects you back to DWI, where you will see another promo code box. Enter the code there and it will make your priority shipping free.

I paid $610.98 all up including 2% cc charge + priority delivery.

Edit: you can't stack the coupons

  • waiting for the Nexus 6 to drop to $500 :-)

    • +5

      I'm waiting for nexus 5 2015.

  • So any reason not to get the Nexus 6?? The only thing Im seing wrong is its 32gb which kinda sucks but I guess I can manage. Anything else that I may have issues with?? Like will it work with Amaysim?? Sorry for all the questions :P

    • +1

because this Oct you will most likely see a newer Nexus with 64-bit processor, and also because this Nexus 6 is not selling hot as Google expected, so, you can expect better price on this model in few months

    • same as I got a Samsung S6 and still cannot believe how fast the price sliding, meanwhile my iPhone 6 Plus been there for more than half a year by now and still holding good price point

  • +1

i am currently using Asus Zenfone 2—16gb—dual sim with 2gb ram
i must say that its a pretty decent phone. i used all top of the range phones including HTC M9, Lg g3, Note 4, Note Edge but Asus Zenfone 2 is far better in performance and has impressive build quality. It is more like a brother phone of Lg g3. Both in looks and functions are almost same except Asus is slightly bigger due to extended shiny plate. Its just my personal perception. May be other thinks the different way.

    • I agree. Since my Mrs has a LG G2 bought from Kogan on their June 2014 sale, I think the top ZF2 models are a tribute/copy and update to the G2!

  • Asus Zenfone 2 Dual Sim 64GB/4GB RAM 4G

Does Sim 2 support 4g frequency too?

  • Great price, but doesn't support the all important 700 Mhz band to support Telstra's New 4GX network… Still happy with my ZE551ML 1.8 Ghz Quad Core / 2GB RAM / 32GB (Red) that supports all of Telstra's networks and was $339 delivered to Australia from Taiwan (arrived within 5 days) from QD_AU @ http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-ASUS-ZenFone-2-ZE551ML-4G-LTE… :)
