    100 AMP

    Don't bother….

    • Yep, 200 Amp or nothing

      • Agree looks a bit thin and nasty for what they are. Had some similar ones and they just couldn't handle the current when I needed to jumper start the car. Just melted.

Handy if you need to jump start a bicycle.

      or a dead iPad

  • Can anyone recommend a good set to jumpstart a car? Up to like a 3.0L car?

supercheap auto have some good ones around $30

JV when you started answering questions ? i thought you always have questions lol..

      • Cool, I'll keep an eye out for any sales on them or is that price a generally good sale price?

edit: Did a quick search on ozb and these were $10 at one time! (doesn't look very common) I will hold out until there is some kind of sale.

Bought a set of 200amp from aldi for $15 if IIRC, if you can wait the next round of special buy may not be too far away because it's been a while since they released auto stuffs. I only used mine once on a Camry V6, started up first go

      • Unfortunately I'm over on the west side where aldi hasn't crawled its way to (yet). I will probably have to make my way to supercheap instead!

100A on what looks like a 12G cable? @ 2.5m? They have got to be dreaming!

    Instead, get this: http://www.jaycar.com.au/Outdoors-%26-Auto-Products/Camping-…

Be wary of the cheap jumper leads.

Should be OK for starting a very small car or motorbike but don't expect to be able to jump a Mack.

I'm sure it's sufficient to charge my eneloops

  • I'd love to know how they come up with these current ratings on jumper leads

    • They get you on this so you have to come back and spend bigger $$$ on better jumper leads.

      Ask Abbott & co.

Burst current rating, a thin wire is quite capable of delivering 100 amps for 100th of a second. PMPO rings a bell?

  • They wont jump a flat battery. but they will jump a low one.

Size of engine isnt much related to size of charge required. My WRX uses a motorbike battery. and the same starter motor can be used on everything from their 2L to the 3.6L tribeca.

If you dont like the leads, replace them.
The battery clamps are worth about $4.50 EACH in Australia, so re-cable it.

Besides, as long as you're not an idiot and try to jump Battery-To-Battery.
Even on a high compression big block, a starter CAN surge to about 200A, but quickly settles somewhere between 90A and 120A.

Its still a good bargain, I've 'trickle started' a car using 16ga speaker wire before (4 hour battery balancing trick, but still).

You'll know quickly if you pull back that rubber handle. If its 8GA wire, or even 10GA, I'd be snapping them up at $7

Ive heard\seen some horror stories, but I've looked at a LOT of cheap jumper cables in Australia and I cant find the notorious '8GA of insulation, 18GA of wire' junk.

I got my set from Kmart for $10, its somewhere above 10GA and below 8GA, literally jump started a Diesel truck with them the other day.

    • +1 for Kmart jumper leads. Had a set for years, used several times without a problem. Think I paid $10 back then too.

  • Guys, I posted before but will do it again. Reject shop has 200A jumper cable for $6. Store stocks, maybe not all stores have it. Maybe they are pulling it from their range.
