Travel Period: January 16 - March 15, 2016

For example a round trip Sydney to Manila leaving Sydney 27 January and returning 26 February is $656 including 30kg luggage and meals onboard.

This is more expensive than Cebu Pacific sale fares, but it's better than Cebu Pacific standard pricing for many flights and a very heavy reduction on standard Philippine Airlines pricing…

January to March is also a relatively high season….

Flight comparison:

Sydney to Manila 27 Jan returning 26 Feb is $655.70 on PAL. This includes 30kg luggage and a meal.

Closest equivalent flight on Cebu Pacific on standard rates (no sale currently on) is $779.13 and that is with only 20kg of luggage plus a meal.

  • Expensive when compared to Cebu Pacific "sale" fares.

Haven't checked, but I think it could be cheaper when compared to Cebu Pacific normal price fares.

    • Yep fair call

Sydney to Manila 27 Jan returning 26 Feb is $655.70 on PA

Closest equivalent flight on Cebu Pacific on standard rates (no sale currently on) is $779.13 and that is with only 20kg of luggage plus a meal.

So these PI flights are better value than I guessed…

    • +1

You're comparing a budget airline with a full service airline though … and PAL flies to Melbourne, Brisbane and Darwin as well. Not everyone lives in Sydney.

      • I never said we weren't comparing a budget to full service airline??

However what is "full service" other than included baggage, a complimentary meal or two, and unlimited (as long as you can get service) free drinks?

        • What is "full service" other than service, you mean? :) It was just worth a reminder - even with sale fares, once you load up a budget airline fare with baggage and meal it the price difference can really narrow. You also forgot a little bit more room on the full service airline. Not such a big deal for me, I'm short, but taller people can really suffer.

  • How's the reliability of CebPac's Sydney - Manila route? They're notorious for being late and I've sat in domestic terminals in the Phils listening to flight after flight being delayed.. that said, I've never taken a domestic CebPac flight that's been on time.

Cheap for PAL though and much better reliability, would jump on the deal if only to be on time.

    • The couple of times I have flown Sydney to/from Manila on CebPac the plane has been between 1 and 3 hours late by the time it got to it's destination.

To be fair, the last time I flew PAL the plane was 5 hours late getting to Manila, and 90 minutes EARLY arriving in Sydney on the return leg…

Cebu Pacific publish their all round on time status each month. In January 2015 it was less than 20% from memory.

Cebu Pacific going direct from Sydney to Manila since mid 2014 must really be hurting PAL's profitability on that route - same applies to Qantas. The competition is good because PAL and Qantas had a duopoly before that and didn't compete at all…

      • I just went syd-mnl last Thursday (4th June). It was 45 mins late. But had no dramas catching my 9:30pm flight to BKK. Had whole row to myself too.
