You mean I could use it outdoors? Like, while I'm ambulant? I shall call it an ambulant phone!

    • you could even use it for calling an ambulance! - What would we call it then?

        A boohuawei

      • In an emergency? Well, if I was driving down the freeway and found I needed a phone in an emergency, I'd call that a 'need help' phone.

    roughly AUD$ 192 ! ouch!

no 850 or 900mhz UMTS 3G support, this will result in pretty bad signal reception.

I don't recommend this phone unless you live in a metro area.

And because it's running Huawei's proprietary chipset, there will be a lack of custom ROMS available. This can be an issue if the phone has no Play store installed (a common issue if you bought a Huawei phone that was not meant to be sold to overseas markets)

  • Ok spec but with the AUD value dropping now and the current exchange, well like medium_tight said, ouch!

    • Imagine what really_tight would say!

  • Huawei is going the way of Samsung :( Not as good value any more :(

      Total disagree
      Better specs and hundreds cheaper
Better materials and camera and hundreds cheaper

Mate 7 abd upcoming P8 offer amazing value money given what you get for the money in comparison.

      • I'm comparing the old Huawei to the new. Not comparing them to Samsung in any way, shape or form except the evolution of their phones.

I'm saying that with specs like this you'd be paying a hell of alot less if their phones were 'valued' in the same way they were five years ago.

    IP57 is the bonus here
I'll just keep using a ziplock bag when on the boat

Specs not great really. It is VERY limited as a 3g phone and no 4g at all. Not great for a smart phone in Australia.
    And it's around $200.

    AU$131 gets you the ViewPhone V500 - 3 4G Phablet - from Gearbest
    5.5 inch FHD Screen / MSM8926 1.2GHz Quad Core / 2GB RAM 16GB ROM / WiFi / GPS / Bluetooth / Android 4.4/ Screen resolution: 1920 x 1080
    2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
    3G: WCDMA 900/1900/2100MHz
    4G: FDD-LTE 1800/2600MHz

    • Is there any coupon code for gearbest atm?

      • it's already reduced so that seems the cheapest. also some reduced phones can't use coupons as well.

    No NFC

  • Does anybody know what's a good 4.7-5.2" reasonably priced phone?

  • Hmmm, it doesn't show that well, but it looks like the phone has a cap on the USB port for blocking the water going in. Caps used in the waterproof phones are often meant to be replaced once every year, not sure about this model.
