  • Are there travel insurance policies that cover ticket costs for flying with another airline to resume the holiday in case of an airline cancels a flight and no reasonable alternative is given (eg. Like Tiger)?

(I am aware that some insurance policies cover only if we are going to miss a pre-planned event, like a wedding etc)

    • +1

In the pds under section 2 in the policy wording section it says:

      Not Covered

any losses inccured by the carrier cancelling or changing the flights.

      • u do know that if the carrier cancels a flight the compensation is more than the money u claim from insurance.
if the airline stuffs up in any way u'd get more from the airline 99.9% of the time than insurance anyway.

i rkn travel insurance should only be taken out for medical, lost baggage (if ur afraid of losing things when it's not the airline's fault), and extra insurance of expensive items taken along with you (which i dont see a point to unless ur a band or it's medical devices)

    • the airline should be responsible for alternative travel (inc arranging travelling on another airline) or a compensation anyway

      • Airlines should be responsible if the cancellation is due to operational reasons (unlike bad weather etc where Airline takes no responsibility, however, most travel insurances cover such situations), but unless one is prepared to take legal actions, Airlines won't do much of a thing. There were numerous recent examples mostly with Tiger. When Tiger cancels a flight, an alternative flight is given in 1 or 2 or 3 days' time. While it may look reasonable to Tiger, it is not for the travelers. Unless you sue Tiger, you won't get anything from them. There was another recent case with Virgin when they canceled a flight and instead of refunding money, they offered 'credit' to buy tickets again with Virgin. One of the affected customers had to take them to small claims court to get the refund.
