Best value rotary electric razor

I've been looking at a new electric razor. Philips seem to have a good reputation among the triple heads rotary brands (ie RQ1250)

I do not need fancy cleaners and fancy features. Just excellent close and smooth shave.

What is the best bargain sub-$250 electric razor. What is the best bargain sub-$300 razor?

This might seem a silly reply but it depends entirely on your preferences. Philips are the top of the pack for rotary electric razors, in my opinion, nothing beats them. If the shaving heads are changed from time to time,(they recommend every two years) and the cutting sets are lubricated after a wash, there is no reason for the razor to not last 16 years plus. I rarely change my cutting heads, and just use hot tap water to clean the razor, and leave it to dry on a piece of paper towel, turning it over sometimes. Look at the Philips Australian website for the models with the fastest speed motors, and select a mid priced one, then compare features online. Sometimes a very minor change can result in a considerable price jump.
Once you have decided on a model, then look at the Shavershop website for discounts, and then at Amazon.com. The US model numbera are different due to the 110 volts and US wall plug, but the shaver is multi voltage, you will see which model is the closest to the one you want. Travel plug adapters are inexpensive if you get some from Amazon. Buy a washable model, and do not worry about cleaning products, hot tap water will do. Once you have decided on your model, you can expect trouble free operation for many years, without having to worry about holes appearing in the foil as happens with non rotary models. For me, a washable model is a must, as they are so easy to thoroughly clean, trimmer or not for sideburns, switch button differences, various lights, shape etc. the rest is your personal choice. People who complain about rotary razors being too tough on the skin have not learned to use a light touch. The only thing better is wet shaving which I do at weekends.

  • What do you lubricate cutters/blades with?

  • With Shaver Guard from Shaver Shop, see:http://www.shavershop.com.au/online-store/electric-shavers/post-shave-accessories/shaver-guard-cleaner.html
or Philips own version of shaver head cleaning spray. After the shaver has been washed and dried, just give the shaving heads a short spray, then run the razor for about 10 seconds and it's done. I only do this about every third time. Normally, after about three shaves, I wash the razor out under the hot water tap, then place it on a double layer of paper towel to dry in the morning, that night I turn it over, and in the morning it all starts again. It is antibacterial and a lubricant.
