  • Cheers OP!!!

    Step 1 - Cut a hole in a box

    • LOL exactly what I was thinking when I read the deal description

  • +7

Step 5 - Realize you don't rent things any more

    • +14

Step 0: ask yourself why you are contemplating leaving your house twice to watch an old movie

      What is this,1980?

      Other tips :

Only rent the movie if you cant see it at the drive in - or if the disco is closed.

Maybe ring the video store from your carphone before you get there to reserve your movie.

Why not swing by timezone on the way back to play some video games

    Quite the deal OP. +1

Just got to spend another $99 to buy a DVD player.

    • They were $16, last week

      You don't have a computer ?

      • +2

Haven't had a disc drive in my PC for at least 5 years. Obsolete tech.

        • +3

          Obsolete tech.

Maybe for you, but a lot of people still use them…

        • @jv: For what?

        • Not obsolete. Rarely used by the majority of people though.

  • +1

Be interesting to see how long will they survive…already got heaps of civic stores closed down in WA

  • Step 5 Profit

  • +2

    Who even rents

    • +2

      Millions of Netflix users?

  • Physical media. lel

    • I don't understand… From what I can tell Blu-Ray is the only way to get 1080p. I think the closest streaming or Foxtel can get is 1080i. Perhaps Netflix can do 1080p but I could never make the switch as you still have to wait ages for new release movies.

These things matter to me. So I'm forced to stick with physical media whether I want to or not…

      • Netflix has 1080p for sure. The benefits of blu-ray are less compression (usually resulting in better picture), high bit-rate surround sound (not sure if netflix does surround) and bonus features. Plus if you go/move somewhere with bad internet you'll be able to watch your movies, on netflix no chance.

Netflix is like any other business, they save money by using least amount of bandwidth possible so they compress the files as much as possible. I usually just make my own rips of my blu-rays and plug them in to my tv via the usb on a big hard drive, beats messing around with discs and the quality is always superior to netflix.

People that think netflix is fine usually just have crappy equipment and/or bad eyes/ears.

    • And then there are those people who, thanks Tony & Malcolm, still only get the Internet speeds from the 1990s. Is the NBN making any progress? For my local area they don't even have an ETA :-(

  • cant see many video ezy stores still surviving, :/

    • I saw a message that Kotara (in Newcastle is closing). A few other stores have changed to Network Video.

  • Once upon a time this would have been amazing, now it's tough for a deal like this to even compare to a free Netflix trial.

Quite nostalgic to think that video stores still exist though, I had fun as a kid renting games.

        Have you seen Dougal anywhere?

  • +1

Very convenient as these guys are almost located everywhere like Hoyts kiosk.

    • -2

these guys are almost located everywhere

      Not in Melbourne…

      • Good old collingwood forever

        • Nope, nearest one to Collingwood is probably in Richmond.

There are only a handful of Video Ezy kiosks in Melbourne, there a way more Hoyts Kiosks…

  • +3

These aren't stores. These are the kiosks located in shopping centres

    http://www.videoezy.com.au/express

  • huh? video ezy still exists? I haven't rented actual disks since around 2004 lol

  • I rather netflix and chill!

  • +4

Be careful and make sure you rewind the discs before returning. The bastards got me on that one

    • My image was upside-down, once.

      Silver Side DOWN, People!

    • You have to rewind disks? O.o

    • You put the discs in the microwave just for 20 seconds to rewind quicker right?

      • Don't you have the drill attachment?

    • I used to work in a video store, and we had a customer that had a VCR that couldn't rewind. He would become abusive if the video(s) he hired weren't rewound. Hypocritical moron.

  • +8

There are plenty of movies that aren't available on netflix/presto etc (eg "home"), and I don't want to pay $5.99 to rent them from google or quickflix or the likes when i can get it cheaper from a kiosk. These kiosks still have a place, although I wouldn't go out of the way for it. There just happens to be one on my way home from work. :)

    • +1

One example of a movie I got today at the Kiosk which isn't on Netflix is Boyhood!

    • This is exactly why I use these kiosks despite being a US Netflix subscriber.

  • +2

They are at the entrance to a lot of smaller suburban shopping centres. Either these or the green Hoyts ones.

    • +4

I like them because they carry Blu-rays.

      • +1

Also can buy the older ex rentals

  • I selected 3 dvds, it took my coupon, swiped my credit card then one by one it proceeded to tell it did actually have those items in stock. Last time I used a civic kiosk I got 2 dvds but it only actually gave me one. I prefer the green kiosks, Never had a problem with them.

  • Went to use this voucher today (Tuesday) at my local and didn't bother as I would of had to rent 7 movies to bring it up to almost $15!

My local kiosk had $2 Tuesday. Also 3 for $8 everyday running deal. Wandering if you can extend the borrow to 2 night when you hire them out?

  • +3

Or… Promo Code: PRESTOWHICHFLIX for 3 months of unlimited free movies on Presto.

  • Not many stores in Brisbane :(

  • code didnt work at my local. not much on offer anyways, no loss

  • Just got back from trying to use it at Thornton kiosk, the darn machine isn't working!!!!
