20kg Sushi Rice $32 at Market Square Sunnybank QLD

130

I thought this was a good deal for 20kg of short grain Australian koshihikari rice. I normally pay almost as much for medium grain (34 for 25 kgs

ETA - its not Australian rice, apparently. Apologies for misleading anyone. Product of Vietnam. The rice can also be had cheaper as per comments below.

This was at the discount fruit market at market square sunnybank across the road from the Dan murphys.

Also at the same shop, beets for 19c a kg, also sweet potatoes, onions and carrots for same price.

      Eat less quantity of it!

    • Nah. Not many fat people in Japan. I don't see many morbidly obese people in Woolworths stocking up on rice either.

I hardly ever see morbidly obese people in woolworths full stop.

        kfc however???

      • Japan actually penalizes people for being obese.

Japan requires citizens between the ages of 45 and 74 to have their waistlines measured once a year and potentially seek medical attention.

People exceeding these governmental limits, which are identical to the measurements established by the International Diabetes Federation in 2006, may be required to go to counseling sessions or converse with a health expert about dietary options. Unlike individuals, however, companies and local governments can be assessed financial penalties if the citizens in their charge do not meet government standards.

        • I read that the cut off is 33.5 inches for guys. lol … literally most of Australia would fail. lol

Jasmine Rice or Koshihikari, whose taste reigns supreme?

One person in our household bought a big jar of Indian brown rice, bleeechk, never again. It is now being used for bird feed.

    • +2

Jasmine rice is an aromatic type of rice, which is non-sticky and is long grained. Same as Basmati— smells and tastes slightly different, but it's also non-sticky. They are both considered indica rices and contrasts with japonic rice species, which tend to be starchy and sticky.

Japanese rice is stickier and hence, used typically to make sushi and is eaten easily with chopsticks.

Are you sure this is Australian rice? I just bought an identical bag from here at Sunnybank Market Square and it says product of Vietnam.

    • +1

Had a look at the store OP posted about, says Product of Vietnam with two dates .. 30/3/15 and 30/3/16

      • +1

In that case you are better off buying at the place I linked to as it is the same dates, they don't make false claims about it being Australian and it is $2 cheaper.

        • Cheers

      • my apologies, i was not aware

        • +1

No worries. I saw that it was from Vietnam and still bought some. I normally buy the Sunrice Koshihikari for about $20/10kg so I'll see how this compares.

        • @donga100: Thanks.
