Canon Pro 100 Printer $499 @ The Good Guys

50

Hi,

Doing a quick search on shopbot, and found this. A Canon Pro 100 printer for $499. There is also a Pro 100S. Quick search and found that the Pro 100S has cloud print but, for an extra $300 i don't think its worth it.

I do print A3 photo and i believe this is a bargain. Cheapest i can find on shopbot is $602.91, plus $45 delivery.

thank you.

  • Wow!

Why would you go something like that, over this for example? Or like 3 of these to 1 of the Pro model :P

Lol in the US it works out to $150 after a cashback rebate!

    • $150 USD = $203 AUD (plus credit card currency conversion fee). Just showing when showing a dollar value from an overseas store always quote the currency with it.

      • Was just for comparison sake. We're not eligible for the rebate so currency conversion costs are meaningless.

  • thanks.

  • Does it print on CD/DVD's ?

Yes, according to the canon website it can print on CD's. I haven't tried it myself, let us know how you go.

Whats so good about this printer does it have gold ink for that price.

  • you can buy a god damn 3d printer for that price!!!

  • Note this thing has 12 ink tanks and not exactly cheap to run but great photo quality

I have a Pro 9000 Mk2 that i got for a similiar price when they were being cleared. I should say had. The thing worked brilliantly for a couple of years, even with 3rd party inks. Like all Canon print heads it eventually clogged up and no amount of deep cleaning, forcing warm water through it with a syringe or use of isopropyl/windex would stop it from banding and also applying small drops of black to the paper to create a faint dribble line. Yes you can argue it's the 3rd party inks doing the damage, but to be honest I don't believe that. Plenty of people have had trouble using genuine ink. I'd happily try replacing the head if I could find one brand new under a ridiculous price (as in over half the price of the printer).

I have an IX6860 sitting in the garage that I got for about $150. Not quite the same photo quality but not quite the same headache either with less inks and common ones. Have to get around to setting it up.

The Pro 9000 Mk2 used red and green inks. The red and green were suppose to give more realistic colour and for the most part they worked but not that much better than the competition that didn't use exotic inks. This newer Pro 100 uses 2 extra shades of grey instead to give better greyscale "black and white" photos. The older printer wasn't much good for B&W. Bottom line though is ink gets harder to find and therefore more expensive whether you go with genuine ink or not. It's a real pain.

The Pro 100 and Pro 100S use 8 dye inks. Dye inks fade more quickly, but clog less if left unused than pigment inks. The much more expensive Pro 10S uses 10 pigment inks and would need to be used every few days unless you like spending all your time, energy and money unclogging print heads.

    • Thanks for the info, i was really keen to get one before

    • Pigment ink technology has been improved alot and it does not clog as much as it used to. And also depends on quality of inks as well. There are cheap third party inks and expensive third party inks (Still cheaper than genuine inks ofcourse).

Have fun getting hold of light grey ink, quality or not.
