We're planning to head into Sydney for the New year and I'm putting together a list of things to see and do.

So far I have the below attractions + Blue mountains + beaches + shopping, and apart from that I'm wondering what else there is?

And also is there like suburbs which are cultural community wise - eg I know Cabramatta is vietnamese etc.

Seems an odd combo of things to do (you're from melb, why visit the zoo or the acquarium)?

    • Yeah, I put down all ideas, so the above list is not like everything we'll see - just a list which we'll narrow down :)

  • i recently went to the Sea Life aquarium in darling harbour. you can buy a 5 attraction pass which cost around 70 bucks if i can remember correctly(?) to use within 30 days of purchase. You get access to Madame Tussauds Sydney/SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium/WILD LIFE ZOO Sydney(all three next to eachother in darling harbour) + Sydney Tower & Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary. considering the darling harbour aquarium by itself cost 40 bucks for single admission at the door, the 5 pass is well worth the dosh. -DC

  • Barangaroo park in the city just opened on the 25th august couple days ago. Haven't been, just heard on the news.

  • +1

A lot of things you have listed are really great touristy things to do, you just have to decide if that is what you want to spend your time doing. For example the aquarium is good, but nothing amazing in my opinion, no better then Melbourne or another opinion.

Take advantage of the Sydney summer, definitely recommend taking a ferry somewhere, the journey itself is amazing, either to Manly or to the zoo (you can get a pass where you get a ferry to the bottom of the zoo, get a cable car to the top, and make your way down back to the ferry dock). Same goes for getting ferry to any of the islands.

One of my personal favourites of taking family and friends to when they come to Sydney is to do the Bondi to Bronte walk, a really beautiful coastal walk, great way to see Bondi and beautiful in summer. Plenty of food and activities in Bondi to do as well and fairly easy to get to. On top of this there are heaps of beautiful nature walks, lookouts and 'hidden beaches' that you can spend days doing (North Head, Royal National Park are probably the two best that spring to mine) while Gordon's Bay near Coogee is stunning and you can go snorkelling there.

Apart from that your list looks solid, just be aware that some are going to be costly and super busy during that time of the year.

    • Thanks heaps for your great tips! I really appreciate it!

  • Wine tasting at Hunter Valley. They also have cheese and chocolates factories too!
