Drakes_Misfortune on 05/01/2010 - 14:30 ¶And both rebate offers are eligable for the one Mac purchase?
PLEASE BE YES
proudwanderer on 05/01/2010 - 15:18 ¶No it won't work.
If you look at the claim form, both of them requires you to cut out and mail in the UPC from the box of the mac. This is impossible since you only have 1 UPC to cut out - so which means you can only do 1 claim.
+1 voteanthonettex on 05/01/2010 - 22:17 ¶no worries, Apple has a 14 day returns policy. I say exercise that and reorder the macbook pro along with ipod and printer muhahaha!!!

sweet, though she doesn't want to return her laptop as she's set it all up etc.. i might go and talk to them anyway, maybe they can do a refund for store credit then sell us the same laptop again to pritn out a new receipt, without us actually returning the item… doubt they'd do that but worth a shot

- Dont tell them she doesnt want to bring it back, then they know they can say no.
- Tell them some other store has offered this deal to you. So you are going there.
If they have any sense they will figure out something.
This might mean a little prompting from you, like hey she likes your store, etc. They they agree to match the deal, THEN bring up the Hey maybe we could just refund and resell back the same unit, saves you (the store) having to return the old unit back to Apple.
- So they wont lose the deal
- They dont have the cost of sending the unit back to Apple, it cant be restocked as its set up and is now used. a candidate for the refub program.
Only cost is a little time and maybe pride if they knock you back
Was it bought under the student discount?
+1 voteWonderbread on 05/01/2010 - 22:53 ¶Insane. I was waiting till after xmas sales to buy a laptop. I was looking at Dells, I was looking at Office Works, I was looking everywhere (Including Mac suppliers). I half decided upon a MBP barely 12 hours ago, glad I held out and didn't just buy it! Free iTouch.

What I like about this is my son is still at Uni and it says that parents can buy for their children, I also had planned to buy anyway and had got my myer vouchers which gave that extra 9%. And the deal is until end of march which is in time for my trip to Norfolk so can get GST back, and since the 10% off is Apple subsidised maybe can get wifes 10% myer discount - then there's the free ipod touch…
This all goes to the wife, so I can get my Tablet

You have to buy from either the Apple Online Store, an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Campus Store. I just got off the phone from Apple (133 622). They directed me to their FAQ page (see snippet below) and also advised me that purchases from Myer will not be accepted.
To qualify for a rebate, can I buy my new computer from any store that carries Apple products?
Rebate offers are valid only when you purchase your qualifying products from a qualifying retailer as specified in the Terms and Conditions of the rebate you are interested in. To find an Apple Authorised Reseller or Apple Retail Store location near you, visit apple.com.au/buy or call 133 MAC (622).

wheatcracker on 21/01/2010 - 14:50 ¶Hi,
Do the retail stores offer the education discount too, or is it only an online thing?
TIA
wahyusanto on 01/02/2010 - 15:37 ¶Yes the Apple retail store offer education discount.
You just need to show them your current student card
daffodil4me on 01/02/2010 - 20:44 ¶Does anyone have some insight how the TRS scheme (getting your GST back) could work with this deal?
My dad flies overseas a bit and was thinking of getting one of these on using the education discount (im a student), as well as a 32GB ipod touch within 30days of him next going away (and before the deal expires).
Could I get back the GST on the macbook pro, AS WELL as the ipod touch?? And I could still keep the original receipt and send it off to Apple to get the $268 back for the ipod touch. Does anyone know if the tax-back fellas make any notes etc on the receipt you show them? Wouldnt want to risk not getting the full $268 back from Apple!
SO—— Macbook Pro 13inch 2.53ghz $1849 + 32GB touch $399
GST BACK: (approx) $168 + $36 = $204
- Cash back = $268
Total = $472
EQUALS 1776 for mac AND touch
Cheers,
Sorry about the length, first post!
lickjimmy1 on 03/02/2010 - 11:21 ¶you should apply the value of the free printer as well..
I would assume if your dad is travelling overseas it would have to be in his name on the tax invoice, and therefore you wouldnt get the student discount or the other freebies…

I spoke to apple and they said even a parent could buy this for their kid. And you dont have to give any details when you order. When I checked, I said I dont have a student number as Im still in the process of enrolling for a program at the uni.
The sales guy said that he could order it not a problem. If they do an audit, i'd have to prove im a student. On the TRS scheme, yes the customs guys do put a stamp on the invoice saying Tax claimed.
And you dad would have to carry the mac onboard as hand luggage.
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4646.asp(The refund only applies to goods you take with you as hand luggage or wear (unless aviation security measures, effective from 31 March 2007, in regard to liquids, aerosols and gels prevent you from doing so) onto the aircraft or ship when you leave Australia.
Goods that cannot be taken on board as hand luggage due to liquid, aerosol and gel restrictions should be packed in your hold luggage. However,if those goods are oversized, for example a case of wine, they must be sighted prior to check-in at the Customs Client Services counter.
You should note that it is a legal requirement that the person who purchases the goods must be the person who makes the claim for a refund of GST)

Alternatively, you can purchase it through Apple Developer Connection (ADC)
You need to purchase a membership. For students it will cost USD 99.00
I checked for the 15" MBP 2.8 - 2399.00 - 600.00 off RRP!
http://store.apple.com/au_epp_55827Im not sure if you'd get iPOD cash back under this scheme.
You can always give them a call and negotiate.
Thanks to this thread I purchased a 13 inch macbook (my first) with the education discount and I absolutely love it. Got an extra 2gb ram put in as well (can never have enough ram :p)
Picked up the "free" ipod also, as well as the HP printer. I tested the printer on a photo and it came out really nice, but I'm not sure if I'll keep it once the ink runs out.

i saw lot of people on ebay selling MACs bought in the UK/US. THey are cheaper than Uni prices. No IPOD touch though. And MAC Extended Warranty is about 230 as opposed to apples 500+.
You can also buy them directly from UK/US.
THey are atleast 30% cheaper than local prices. (Eg look for a store named electronic-king-inc in ebay to compare prices)
Im not sure about local taxes that you may have to pay when they arrive here.In terms of warranty, Apple's is an international warranty. It doesnt really matter if you buy em in any other country.

I'm getting applestore to give me a 10% discount off my imac. Are there any terms that will prohibit me from getting the rebate if I get a discount on my purchase?
