dont forget 6.4% cash back at cashrewards

  • This does require membership to get that pricing.

Oh man…… I want a pair of the M50x at that price!!! Anyone with membership interested in helping me out? :(

Edit: If anyone's in Perth (SOR), we could organise some kind of group buy and share the cost of the membership between us… not sure who'd be willing to make the payment on behalf of internet randoms though, people pulling out after the payment has been made would be problematic.

    • I'm NOR, but would be interested. I think I prefer the LE version though.

If people did pull out, I wouldn't think that it would be too hard to on sell them at that price…

    • If you inbox me where you are we might be able to work something out.=

    • Did you end up buying or get a group together?

I found out that I have a membership if you still need it.

      • Thanks, I lucked out and found a friend who had membership so I have a pair coming in already :D

  • Membership is $25. Seems worth it if you are after a higher priced item e.g. M50x.

    • +3

You can pick up an M50x online on other sites for $184 (in black or dark green) with free shipping.

With Co-Op the M50x is at $149.40 + $25 membership, bringing it to $174.40 with free shipping.

You still save $10 but it's way better value if you can get someone with a membership to help you out.

Anyone have membership care to help me out? Also been looking to get a pair of the m50x

  • same here would like to purchase m50x count me in!!

    • Same here

      • +1

you should all chip in for a membership… $5 each

  • I'm also keen on the m50x if someone has a membership..

  • I'll need to stop by Unimelb's branch of co-op and see if they've also got this deal tomorrow.

    • If you could let us know if this deal exists at Parkville campus, it would be great!

      • Yep, sale exists at unimelb Co op as well.

  • +5

If you are at St Lucia, I'll help you as I have a membership.

  • I have a question, so is the promotion on top of the price that's shown online in the campus that's mentioned in the post?

    • They will give you 40% on mrp price.

      • Ohhh, that makes more sense. If they gave 40% off the price online… :P m50x would be at a price (40% off $149.40 is ridiculously cheap, even $149.40 is at really decent price) where I would grab them even if I had no membership.

  • Clicking through to the product page gives you a list of stores where each item is available…

  • Thanks OP, got the M50x for $149.40 (as well as cashrewards 6.4%)

  • PM me if you want me to purchase a pair on your behalf as I have a membership.

In b4 next case of UQ measles is from Ozbargain.

  • Also interested in the M50X if someone is kind enough to help out with membership discount?

    Thanks.

    • You might no need a membership, just go and ask if this deal applicable to non members.

      • Need to have them posted to me, so I can't just walk into a store unfortunately.

  • I found that some stock headphones that are not online (i.e. ANU one stocks M40X, though it was like $10 cheaper than m50x).
    Just sayin.

  • +2

Make sure you've tried the m50x before buying.

    Big head = uncomfortable.

  • If anyone wants to chip in for a membership and lives in Sydney PM me.

    • 40% of $209 = $120 thats a bargain + $25 membership = $145 in total

      • It's coming up as $149.40 plus $25 for membership.. total $174.40

        • just walk in co-op book store and signup membership when you buy headphones, I'm sure it will cost you $145 in total.

          @nikhilmehral:
They've sneakily set the RRP to $249.

        • @silent1:

The MSRP is $239 USD - RRP of $249 AUD seems reasonable.

What is the AU RRP normally?

  • If anyone wants to chip in for a membership and lives in Melbourne PM me. :)

    • hi. Im kha and i. living in melbourne city. could i ask to use your coop membership. i just want to buy ATH-M50X. thanks, kha.

  • Thanks OP. Wanted ATH-M50 for long time. I live in ACT, if anyone wants to use my Membership PM me :)

    • Do I need to be in the ACT? Or can I get them posted to QLD?

      • Actually you don't need to. After I order it, I realised this comes with free shipping.

  • Is it only black that's available?

    • Yeah it seems like they only have black in stock. On there it says it's also available in the limited edition blue colour but seems they've run out of the blue ones a while ago (as have every other online store in Australia it seems)

      • Yeah, so disappointed. I was only looking at the blue one a few weeks ago and then all of a sudden, they all disappeared.

        • Same here. The blue ones look gorgeous, was about to buy one at the start of the year but thought to myself 'hey, I should wait for a great deal or a sale' but it never came and now they're all gone. I would've jumped at them at this price. Just not that excited about the black ones, nor the new dark green ones.

  • is this or the sennheiser momentum on ear better? i bought the momentums from the recent deal. is the extra $100 worth the price for the ath m50?

HOLY SHIT I HAVE MEMBERSHIP AND I GO TO A UNIVERSITY WITH A COOP STORE.

    Hooray!!!

  • No anc9's :( ..

  • This promo is running at USYD as well.

Don't get the M50X if you like wide soundstages. This is audio technica's hipster travel headphones.
Sennheiser HD598 or AD900X are the better buys.

    • +2

Open headphone vs closed headphone. Closed cans can be used in outdoor better than open ones can be.

Also, M series are not designed for travel. They are designed for studio monitoring purposes. People use them for during travel, because you can basically. That said, I think Audio Technica did realise that some people do use it for travelling, since the older M50 model had a fairly long cable that's not detachable.

I hate closed back headphones when I listen to music. You can get better clarity from open cans and you won't have any artificial sounds bouncing around the environment.
I need new headphones ASAP. I am torn between the M50X (only because I can get it for $140) or the Sennheiser HD598.

        • It's more of a design thing, open headphones have advantages and disadvantages just like how closed ones have advantages and disadvantages.

That's why open headphones usually come with really long cable, since it's expected that you'd be using it indoor.

        • @Oversimplified:

Do you think it's worth it to spend $100 more to get the Senheisser 598?

        • +1

@tendollar: Depends, I have HD600 and I like it a lot. Do bear in mind that I've never actually gave M50x a go (shops around me never had them, going to go to Sydney at one point and Minidisk is on my list of place to go though my main aim is to give SR-009 a try).

That said, I do know that open headphones are designed for outdoor usage. My HD600 stays in my room when I go out because it's not designed for outdoor usage (no sound isolation whatsoever + 3M cable do get annoying sometimes). I will admit that I use open headphones outdoor sometimes, KOSS KSC-75, but I tend to use it when I go for a stroll, around areas with little to no noise and where no one would care if sound leaks from my headphone (definitely not in places with a lot of noises outside or library).

        • @tendollar: Why are you getting the HD598? When you can save maybe more money by getting the HD558 and doing the foam mod (see youtube/google). I'd still recommend the Philips SHP9500 over both HD558 and HD598 in my opinion as it's more cheaper. You could fight over which is the better headphone Philips vs Sennheiser. I just go with the cheaper option. You could also put a V-Moda BoomPro microphone into the SHP9500 for headset purposes but it's an open headphone. http://www.headfonia.com/sennheisers-new-hd558-and-hd598/3/ https://youtu.be/aipXii-qWiQ?t=9m45s

        • @Graaace:

THanks man. Nearly bought the M50X.

        • @Oversimplified: Agreed. I have the HD650s and love to listen to them at home. They're not practical to take out though (size, sound leakage, requires decent amp to power).

If you like open cans for use at home but don't wish to fork out a couple hundred for an amp, the HD598s or AD-900s tendollar recommended are both excellent headphones!

I feel like I'm the only person on this forum who does not like the M50s. I used them for a few months before replacing them with IEMs when I'm out. Part of this reason is that they have a very tight fit and (for me) can get uncomfortable after 15 minutes. Also, the sound quality is mediocre at best.

        • @Eivad:

What about an M50X for $126? What do you say to that deal, because that's how much I got them for (including cashrewards).

        • @tendollar: I have not tried the M50X, is the only difference the detachable cables?

$126 is a good price. Since you say you have them already, how is the fit and sound quality?

        • @Eivad:

If you like bass, then this is the headphones for you. I am not sure what the main difference is, but the detachable cable is one difference.
There is a bit of sound leak, headphones are not comfortable for big headed blokes and treble isn't so great.

  • Would the membership I got at uni in Perth like 8 years ago still be valid?

EDIT: I am apparently still a member, you can find out your membership number here.

I bet people who took advantage of this 'bargain' must be a bit annoyed now if they were hoping for a cheap pair of ATH-M50Xs.

    • I think they increased the price. lol

      • Nope. Back to $149.

The final price after the coupon code and cashrewards was $126.
        Pretty good. :D

        • What coupon code did you use?

        • @HazElMagic:

Just a one off one that I received a few months ago.

    • +1

Cheers. I'm impressed they still have my membership number after all these years.

      • Hi. Could you help me that I can use your membership. I would like to purchase ATH 50x. Thanks kha

  • i live melbourne. anyone have membership, please help me.

  • I signed up 2 years ago at a co-op shop, and when I paid the 25 dollars I was told that I could get it refunded when I don't need it anymore, so at the end of my study years. You should check if you could get the membership, buy the head phones and get your refund.

  • If you need membership I can help out. I am in Sydney :)
