  • Awesome, got one. Thanks OP!

That's so small, has science gone too far?

    • No, It has gotten too small. Can't keep track of this little bugger and it's infamous lid sometimes. The lid likes to run off when I am not looking.

Great to keep in the wallet.

    • Yes it has.

    • You sound like you write Advertisements for blogs.

  • I got one last time and I think it's excellent.

    • Great!

  • How's the longevity of these bad boys ? I want to put it into my Mac air and leave it in there almost like a perm second hdd. Is this possible?

    • I would say yes considering I have a 128GB Sandisk micro SD perminantly in my MacBook Pro.

      • +3

thumbdrive does not equal micro SD

        • +1

Naturally but what is the usage rate of a thumb drive vs sd?

        • @clarky: I have been using a 64gb usb (small like the one linked here, but different brand) for a while and have had no problems. I just keep things that I'm not too worried about on it anyway, like music/etc.

I haven't opened it up or anything but I'm fairly certain there is just a micro SD card inside it, or either way it is the same type of flash memory which isn't going to wear out any faster than an sd card.

Waiting patiently for Shopping Express to do this for $50 flat. <3

Good price, dont need. Have an upvote anyway

    • +11

      That is one pointless comment

      • +28

Yes, It may well be the second most pointless comment on this page

        • Someone call the burn unit.

  • Was considering the same thing re MacBook Air but they don't seem to be truly flush in the few photos I saw so still undecided if it's a good permanent option?

I really like the look of these ones http://goo.gl/Y6iATO but they are much more expensive and perhaps not as good a brand ?

    • +1

I bought one from the previous deal and been using it as a permanent external drive on my Air. So far so good. Trust me you won't even notice that it's there after a while.

  • +1

Long ago I read that this model has slow read write speeds , tried searching again and couldn't find the link … though it is to aimed to be used as secondary drive in a laptop by many, don't aim for top notch performance but as a backup drive …

    • you were probably reading about the Cruzer Fit, the usb 2.0 version. this is the ultra fit, which has pretty reasonable speeds.

      • you guys must be right , that is why I'm unable to locate the review

    • The Ultra Fit is a respectable 30-40MB/s sequential writer. The Extreme version trumps it but is double the price.

      • +1

there is no Extreme Fit (yet).

i think you're referring to the Extreme in the regular form-factor. in the low profile form factor there is only the Cruzer Fit and the Ultra Fit. no extreme version.

as you said, the Ultra Fit is respectable (the Cruzer Fit really isn't, and is really is a pain to use for time critical applications), and there are no other low profile drives that are significantly faster in the same form factor. you would have to jump up to a regular size Extreme/Extreme Pro (within sandisk range).

    Terrible drive, terrible company.
Bought a 32GB, encrypted it and wrote ~24GB of data to it, only to have it die on me.
ScamDisk support want me to pay $6 return shipping on a $15 drive. Terribad RW speeds. 4mb/s on a USB 3 port and gets boiling hot when you use it. At least 60c. Broke my USB ports on my laptop as well, only work with USB 2.0 devices now.

    • +1

      Thank you.

    • +2

Ive got to agree, these things die very easily, terrible speeds and quality, wouldnt risk any data on em.

    • +5

      Excellent impartial review, many thanks.

It's hit and miss man, literally from drive to drive within the same company. I bought a 4 star rated lexar usb drive off amazon 2 years ago and it frequently dies while writing data to it, was so bad i tossed it. But ive had a usb 2.0 sandisk cruzer that still works well.

      • I've had a Cruzer 8GB (cost me $50 some years ago, back in the old days of 320GB HDDs being the max) have it's USB connector come off. Swore not to go SanDisk again. Bought a 16GB Ultra the other month and it worked perfectly, still does. Bought a PNY 64GB USB 3.0 and it's my go-to storage drive, never dies and it was really, really cheap. Very, very hit-or-miss.

        • Fair enough man, im just sayin brand loyalty means very little with products at this price bracket when they all made in china.

I'd been through the same nightmare or should I say hell. Customer support via overseas VOIP, read script like robot and does not understand human language. Asked not to read from script and still reading from script. They will just tell you the heat is normal.

Basically lots of complains about this drive getting extremely hot and some killed USB3.0 port on computer, just like @Droidyy 's port.

Took almost a month of persistent followup to get a replacement of other model.

      • Worst of all, it broke the ports on a work HP Elitebook. Seems to have issues with Intel USB controllers, my Marvell or whatever in my desktop (built it years ago, PCI-E card) made it work at USB 3 speeds and didn't kill the ports either.

Customer support via overseas VOIP, read script like robot and does not understand human language. Asked not to read from script and still reading from script.

They're forced to read the script.

They will just tell you the heat is normal.

they're appraised based on call churn - they'll tell you anything to get you off the line. It don't matter if you have to call again.

Something's gotta give - you want low prices, you've got to accept poor support. Sometimes, you pay more but still get poor support but that's a different scenario.

        • I inquired via email. Was sent back a generic message telling me to mail it in to (x address). Told them my story and how I would never buy SanDisk again and was sent nothing. Not necessarily, I got some Steelseries Sensei RAWs ($50-60) when I bought my motherboard and CPU in a combo and they broke. Steelseries didn't have them in stock, so they sent me the V3s (next one up) and told me to keep it. Now that's good support on the cheap.

    • so todays gold deal SanDisk Ultra 128GB Ultra Micro SDX $48 in $US + del

      • The gold deal is for "Select Sandisk storage" including the deal featured in this ozb post along with a bunch of other stuff including certain SD/mSD, SSD and USB drives.

  • +1

I got one from the previous deal. Id just like to say that the USB gets really hot (not to burning) when in use. Obviously, the small form factor means you wont feel much of it.

  • +1

Anyone know how easy it would be to cut some vents in the drive?

    • +3

That's just gonna void the warranty, won't make a difference in operating temp.

    • Just strap this to it.

  • last time there was a deal on these someone said it was better to get the PNY 128gb stick because it's faster, I did and it ended up being extremely slow (40mbps, 15mbps sometimes) so just a warning if anyone is looking around for similar products and is considering the PNY 128GB which is the same price as this Sandisk Ultrafit.

    • just putting it out there that some amazon users are claiming around 100MB/s sequential write speeds for the PNY and around 40MB/s for the SanDisk

  • +2

This particular model gets really hot if left in the usb port even for a short while.

Holy sh^t.. but who would pay US$2,310.00 let alone the reduced US$774.95

    • Someone who wants to smuggle 1TB of data inside a body cavity?

      • Ha - but is that kosher

        • +1

You'd probably have to consult your Rabbi for the answer to that question…

  • Clicked on the link, shows up as $60.47 with no international shipping..what am I doing wrong?

Tried to buy two of these last time and the limit was one per person. One was for me and one for my partner under two separate legit Amazon accounts. Amazon cancelled one of the orders and I haven't been able to resolve it with Amazon ie. They don't respond ever !

Harvey Norman have them for $68 so ordered one from there a couple of days ago. I'm slowly starting to learn that if you buy overseas or from online ONLY retailers ( no so much in OZ )that you do run the risk of zero customer support and after sales. You can't beat a cheap deal but if you can get it locally for the same price or even a little bit more I think it's worth it in the long run.

Too easy to get blind sighted by cheap. You cheap deal will turn sour really quick if you can't contact them yes you Amazon.

    • +1

I've had about 4 issues with Amazon. 2 of the issues were relating to items never arriving and they simply sent them to me again. I found that they responded within 2hrs and every issue I had was resolved without any hassle, some can't be any happier.

    • +1

I've had nothing but good experiences when something goes wrong.

I emailed for an RMA/replacement when one of my two PNY 256GB USB's crapped itself after six months, they then refunded me for both (inc shipping) and told me to keep the good one:) Just waiting for the price to drop to $65~$70 again.

    • +1

Yeh amazon have one of the better customer supports, you did something wrong.

  • Still listed as $30, under 'Other sellers'.

Here's a CrystalDiskMark from a 64gig SanDisk Fit drive that I snagged in a bargain a little while ago. It's exactly the same as the one in this deal, just 64gb instead of 128gb.
