    • Bought a few at Northland Shopping Centre Woolies. It's not a mistake. They had a 'better than half' price tag.

      • +1

What makes you think every state in australia doesn't have at least 1 "northlands shopping centre"?? C'mon people, wake up whe describing where deals are.

        Always list state

        </general rant>

        • -3

          There is only

          NORTHLAND VIC 3072
          and
          NORTHLANDS QLD 4350

to deal with, so in fact there is only one.

        • @endotherm:

There's a "Northlands shopping centre" near my home. I'm not in VIC. Not my fault that it was unclear that he meant suburbs when it could be read as a shopping centre name with a typo.

You probably had to google and check there were no other northland too, which invalidates your position that it can be taken as assumed knowledge.

PLUS I made it clear it's a "general rant" because people so often dont think that names are re-used across states. Which is false. If everybody clarified with state too we'd all be better off.

        • -3

@justtoreply: I've been around a few years, sonny! It's not the first time I've encountered this question, having lived and worked nearby to the Victorian Shopping centre most of my life. I didn't have to Google it, but I did to get the postcodes and for clarification of my point. You see there is only one NORTHLAND (singular, if you like), not to be confused with the NORTHLANDS (plural) in Queensland. And as for every State in the land having more than one — lets check Google — Yep, not true! If you want to go make assumptions that he might not be referring to the major shopping complex with its own postcode in the suburb of Preston, and that he might not know how to spell, and that I might not know how to click on his profile to find out what State he is in… well that's not my fault. My experience over the years has taught me that when I hear "NORTHLAND", I KNOW what is being referred to.

As a rant, it was a poorly chosen example, I was merely pointing out there was only one and not to be mistaken, and certainly not as prolific as you made out. Don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you that more detail should be included by posters, as this is a national site (at least). You could have picked your mark better though and attacked a post more like "I'm looking for recommendations for a panel beater in the Western Suburbs…".

        • @endotherm: Many Victorians refer to the Victorian Northland as 'Northlands', especially the people that live in the area (fully sick mate).

        • @domcc1: As I said, I lived and worked in the area most of my life. I have heard the odd bogan refer to it as Northlands but it isn't that common. I've also heard it referred to as "the shops". Maybe you rub shoulders with different people than I do.

Still, that's not the point. Originally the poster said NORTHLAND. justtoreply took offence and contended there were multiple instances of NORTHLAND in every state. I stated the fact that there was only one Northland in all of Australia. Whether or not some locals get the name wrong is irrelevant.

Cool white is so clinical and disgusting. Also cool/blue white light keeps you awake at night, where as warm colours help you sleep - new studies shows.

      • +4

That's why there is a switch so you can sleep in the dark….
fyi, never had better sleep than in the last couple of years, which is probably the same time I got the cool white lights

  • looks like they fixed their online website just before i check out :(

    • +2

Still showing $2 for me on their site.
I made an order for 15 but cancelled it because I'm willing to bet they will be gone before I get around to collecting them.

  • Thanks op bought 15…
Still hips left at Doncaster east Vic.

  • Nice deal but don't have any connectors like that in the house :(

Please be aware that the beam angle for these MR16 LED is only 24 degrees. There are much wider angle ones available, which are better suited for lighting a wider area.

    • +2

yes, very good price but only 24 degrees. The 5.5w one is 60 degree and much brighter.

      • +1

        5.5w is 400lumen, the 20lumen makes a huge diff?

        • +3

More the angle of diffusion it seems

        • +3

its not the lumen but the angle eg 24dg but if you want the downlights to focus on a small area then it's good. I wouldn't recommend these for open areas like living and kitchen

        • @NeoWilson: agreed totally unless you like patches of light and multiple shadows. Personally they are no good to me even at $2.

    • +4

Thanks for the heads up, saved me some dollars and time :)

  • Thanks. Just bought 12 from food for less hurstville. There are two left.

  • Can i simply unplug my old buld and plug this LED bulb without any adapter ? I heard only with philips you don't need an adapter.

    • +1

Shouldn't need to change your transformer. They are plug and play.

Reasonable brightness but they are warm white so that's not for everyone's liking.

      • +1

Plug n play. No drivers need to be installed?

        Well played :)

      • Finger cross you don't have a electronic transformer… Otherwise blinking or one flash of light almost certainly.

    • An electrician, and lighting shop, have previously told me that it depends on the type of transformer

      • +1

i plugged in a few and most worked fine. A couple of them flickered though. One did for a second then fixed itself and hasnt flickered since
I would have thought each globe would have been made the same? so maybe some a dodgy??

  • +2

It depends on whether your transformer is new enough to take the LED bulb. You need to try to put the new LED on and if it flickers, you need to change the transformer as well. The red one in Bunnings will fit all new LED lights at around $9.90 each.

    • Hi cardiology,
whats the name of the red transformer at Bunnings? Is there a web link for that? I searched bunnings website, but did not find it. Thanks

  • +1

Is it safe to runs these on a dimmer? I put them in and they seem to work. They flicker if I leave the dimmer at 100% but at about 50% it is fine.

Next time I have an electrician here I will get rid of the dimmer but in the meantime is it ok to use these?

    • Yeah I'd like to know this as well. I never use the dimmer so that isn't a problem but I don't want to risk a fire…

    • +1

The main risk would be if they are enclosed or higher wattage. The heat generated would reduce the lifetime of the bulb. Also, the dimmer in the circuit will likely cause more stress to the bulb, which will also decrease the lifetime of the bulb.

  • No luck for me. Olsent twin pack scanned at 'no product found' and the assistant said they weren't discounted.

  • I bought a whole bunch of these a few months ago for ~$15 each =(

No, i cleaned it out =)

        • +4

Haha what a bunch of weirdos. I have more than 30 downlights on one level alone. Previous owner went nuts with lights. I bought what i need and i get negged? Get a life

        • +2

          @djc926:
Agree, I bought all 17 at my local, not enough to finish replacing my halogens. =/

lol i better not say how many i bought at my local woolies which i cleaned out to replace all my lights haha

  • +1

Anyone find any bayonet type Cfls or just Edison screw type?

    • +1

Found no CFL bayonets. They have halogen.

    • +1

Yep, but only 40w equiv bayonets

    • +2

Ikea sell a bayonet to screw-type adapter for cheap. I bought a bunch last trip. People sell screw-type at garage sales all the time!

      FYI

  • Saw (and bought) at Sunbury. A few different sorts ticketed at $1 or $2 but few left at 3pm. I bought a Olsent cool white 14w Edison 4-pack for $2.

  • Please put the fitting in the title.

  • just placed the order, then realised they're only 24 degree, most are 36

    • +3

      60 degrees is most common

  • yesterday got some and there's $2 for 4PK cfl = $0.5 each
but don't expect more and they are not that bright comparing to Philips same watt cfl bulb.

  • Do these fit into exterior lights such as those on the pillars of portico's?

    • +1

Normally those types of lights will take either a MR16 or GU10.You will need to check as they look very similar.

  • Have had about 50% success with replacing stock 50w with these LED globes (got 2 different types of transformers). The ones that work, I'm pretty impressed with (24D seems OK). But the other transformer type they just flash then go off, any ideas?

    • +1

Probably not drawing enough current from the transformer. Can you swap it with others? Else Redback from Bunnings is $9

      • Hi Steptoe,
Any chance you know the name of the red transformer at Bunnings? Is there a web link for that? I searched bunnings website, but did not find it. Thanks

        • Osram ET Redback

Maybe they are not going to stock it any more as the LED downlight kits continue to fall in price. Even bunnings seling the DETA for $19.

          There is a picture here

      • +1

Yep, the newer transformers need at least a 20w load to run. So I will need to re run the wiring with 4 LED globes off the one transformer, or replace the transformers. The older (though less efficient) transformers are fine. Struggling to undo several caps though, the paint has melted/ bubbled & sealed them tight.

        • Not all electronic transformers need 20W load.

  • +1

Thanks OP, bought the CFL bulb online and select the free Click & Collect option from my local BWS store!

  • They only had them for $2 instead of $1 at my woolies :'( - Pricing errors are always annoying

    • Around 5 left at Oakleigh (VIC).
      None left at Chadstone (VIC).

EDIT: Whoops - this wasn't meant to be a reply :/

  • Can someone tell if these globes are the usual B22 globes which fit in most households or are they smaller for lamps. I can't tell from the picture.

    • Only ES from my observation.

  • +1

Saw this on Thursday. None in stock in Cheso. Went back Friday, same thing.

Went in yesterday, still none in stock. Eventually got a couple of raincheck slips. Ask at the main counter. Basically means that for 1 year, you're guaranteed this price, even when the special ends.

    • Isn't it a clearance item which is supposed to be replaced by the 5.5w? What good is raincheck if they will never get more stocks or if discontinued?

    • You did well as it ain't an advertised special.

  • Can we somehow use these to replace the traditional energy saving bulbs?

    • These are downlights, not general lights, so no.

  • Just went to my local wws, spiral only, thus nobuse to me. Seems like they are clearing the ES interface range.

  • I ordered 25 online, they took my money but no idea how they will find stock. Had a quick look at Paddington QLD and ticket is there but no stock.

    • +1

About 20 of the philips left at Woolworths Brisbane CBD store

    • You will get a refund a few hours before delivery is due and they realise they can't fill your order. Classic Woolies.

  • +1

I have old light fittings… bayonet in the bedrooms and screw ins for living areas….. how the heck do you know if you can use LED globes in them, or you simply can't?

    • +2

LED is the type of globe if you like, irrespective of the fitting type.

You can get halogen in bayonet/screw in and these MR16 downlights (small with two prongs).
You can also then get LED lights in the same 3 types of fittings.

I have bayonet and screw in fittings in my house and originally these housed the old incandescent globes, then I moved to CFL. As they break I'm replacing them with Philips LEDs like this:

      http://www.bunnings.com.au/philips-9-5w-3000k-warm-white-edi…

      • Cheers Placard… and you do this without any issues or having to do any other changes? Just swap the globes thats it?

Do you pick 9w as the others are not bright enough?

        • Yeah no issues at all. Just as long as there's no dimmer switch it'll be fine.

I picked 9w for bedrooms, but for the kitchen and dining I've got 12w/1050 Lumens, as I like those rooms to be lit brightly. Also in the bathroom I have two globes - one above the mirror and one on the ceiling - one is 9.5w the other is 12w, again as I like the bathroom to be bright.

Someone has Broden'd the lot at Eastgardens NSW so don't bother heading out there if that's also your local. Frustrating as I actually needed one!
