Share Your Tales of Dick Smith Ineptness Here

Mayne seriously … it seems like Dick head Smith screws up every order I make from them. I'm starting to suspect it's a deliberate campaign just to get people into the shop so they might buy something else other than the fantastic but non-existen bargain they sometimes have.

I can't be the only one … let's share stories about this behavior from ol' Dicko's. Include what you are purchasing and what happened in order for you to not recieve the item.

Latest for me is buying 10 $2 battery packs and using Click 'n' Collect to recieve them last night. Got an email this morning saying ring the store I was using to collect from so I rang and apparently that store don't have any due to theft and not having a stocktake in two years (seriously, the first thing she said was sorry we don't have them because we haven't had a stocktake in two years. Like I'm meant to believe they run their stores that ineptly? Lel).

Then she told me that other stores had them and I should go there if I still want the order. The problem was according to her there's only 3 or 4 or 5 at each store so I would have to go to each. And then that disagrees with what's reported as available at each store online. Lel.

So she offered a refund - which is only fine and proper. Except that it isn't because she told me it will take 3 days to refund the money so I have no money or goods now for 3 days while they dick around with it. I know for a fact that refunds are more or less instaneous at other stores if you paid with a credit facility.

On the day before fathers day, I went in to the mt gravatt store as they had a fitbit advertised for $80 or so. Went in after confirming on website that there was stock available. Go in and there's no mention of the offer and apparently only stock is in a town two hours away. Seemed to me like bait advertising.

I bought 20 batteries on sale online and paid $7.95 for delivery. The batteries were delivered by Toll in 10 separate packages (sent from various DSE stores), over a period of 3 days, which I had to be home to sign for. My one order generated 42 emails for separate invoices and delivery advices, incredible!

    • Bahaha, that's such a Dick move :D

  • I find it depends which store I set the Collect to, near me there are 4 stores, one never has stock of any good deal, two of them it seems you can click and collect anything at any price. But there is one store which I've had 4 goes at Click and Collect now, and the orders are ALWAYS rejected when you go to collect them or get cancelled before you get there, "we're out of stock". And chasing Dicksmith for a refund is TERRIBLE - I've actually had to open a Paypal Dispute to get money back from them in the past.

  • Going into their stores is even worse! This was going back a few years and wasn't an online dealing.

After my laptop charger fizzled out, and I didn't want to buy a new one for $200+, instead I bought one of those universal laptop chargers but still paid $130 (this was before realising that buying 5 cheap ones from China/Hong Kong on ebay at a few dollars a piece with free shipping is a much better option).

Despite the amount I paid, it was pretty flimsy and one of the parts snapped within a few weeks of purchase from general wear, making it now useless(you had to insert a few different pieces to fit the laptop model correctly).

I went to return the item and explained the issue. I was told that because it was outside of the 30 change of mind I couldn't return it, but I politely explained again it wasn't a change of mind, but a faulty product which I was entitled to a refund for. I had paid on my savings account, but despite this she said she could only give me a refund onto gift cards which I was sure wasn't true and I should have asked for a manager at this stage to sort things out. I am usually pretty averse to conflict, so I accepted and went off with the card. Luckily it was a WISH card which can be used at most Woolworth and associated retailers so I figured I'd just use it for groceries.

Skip to a week later when I am at Woolies doing a shop in the last hour of the store hours when it is quiet, and I get to the counter to pay with the gift card and discover it is declined. I am mortified, luckily I still had the refund receipt with it to show the cashier and so she goes and calls the gift card hotline which at this time of night takes some time to do. It is now past closing time and I feel so embarrassed. Eventually they inform the cashier that the money has been loaded onto the card, but it just wasn't activated for use, so they do that over the phone and it all goes through in the end, but now it is 9:30 and I feel responsible for holding them up so long which I hate doing to people.

Luckily now I will complain when I know something isn't right. I won't make a scene or be rude, but I refuse to have another experience like that again.

  • I was looking for a micro sd card, I went into their store, and the sales child told me that I could only buy a micro sd as part of a set with the adapter, it was the only way you could buy them. Do people actually believe their crap?
