Best free vantage points of Sydney NYE fireworks on Sydney foreshore?

Hi guys,

It's almost that time of the year again - New Years. - Scary ha.

I'm travelling to Sydney for the NYE fireworks and planning to do the 'whole camp a long time and wait' style thing on the harbour for the fireworks. (We did the boat cruise two years ago, but after a mediocre view from a long distance away and $400 pp gone, we won't be doing that again).

So just wondering if you have any recommended spots for ideal / good viewing spots of the fireworks - viewing from the feature side of the bridge (the opera house side of the bridge).

I'm aware of some spots near milsons point, but wondering if anyone else has top free spots which they recommend?

Thanks!

  • I've always camped at Dawes Point next to the pier.. There are also some good spots in Kirribilli across the harbour.

    • From your knowledge, how far ahead does Kirribili point for instance fill up? (I know that a few spots reach capacity even around 9am that morning - eep)

      • Mary Booth Lookout fill up pretty early in the morning, but the view is great. This should give you some idea.

Dawes Point can accommodate a lot more people. Have arrived as late as 6pm in the past and still find a decent spot.

        • Thanks for the video link. I notice that people have tents and gazebos? On the NYE site it says no tents, but do people still camp out and are security strict with the no tents or structure things?

        • @lifethroughthelens: The video is from 2010, they've gotten a bit more strict in the last few years. Refer to the Sydney NYE for more info.

        • @iChopstick: hmm - I suspected so. I guess you could still camp out but discreetly. I'll play my chances.

  • Point Piper.
