LIFX Original LED Colour Light Bulb $39.99 USD / ~ $56 AU (RRP $59.99 USD) + Shipping @ LIFX

Long time lurker, first time poster. Hoping to give something back. Be nice

Received code from targeted email (as a recent purchaser), however code doesn't appear to be unique. LIFX has this week brought out a new model, which is considerably smaller in size (http://www.lifx.com/products/color-1000 RRP $59.99 USD), so the discounted price of the original model isn't that surprising. Still, might be handy for some. RRP was $99.99 USD just a couple of months ago.

From the email: "For the next week you will have priority access to purchase the remaining stock of Originals at an even lower $39.99"

Tech Spec's on Lifx Original - http://www.lifx.com/pages/the-original-info-sheet

Price in USD which is annoying however my purchase came from a Sydney warehouse and arrived within a few days.

Shipping should be <$10 USD for a couple of bulbs, free if you spend over $150 USD

I am fairly happy with my purchase of the original (if not slightly annoyed a new version was released just a week later), but if you are buying make sure it will fit your existing light housing, as the bulbs are quite large (138x65mm).

Mod WARNING: This item may not carry the required Electrical Safety Certifications for Sale or Supply (and/or installation) in Australia. It may be dangerous to use this device.

Shipping is $25USD for two bulbs, takes the total to nearly $150AUD — kills the deal for me. :o(

    • Shipping for 1 is $<9 so maybe buy 1 each in separate orders?

    • +1

That's strange. When I added 2 to my cart (to test the code), shipping was 9.35USD to Tassie, which is normally pretty high on the shipping scale. 1 Bulb was $8 or so.

Perhaps they don't have stock of that particular model (bulb type) in Australia? My tests show Australia Post for E27 Bulb at the considerably cheaper rate. Agreed that rate kills the deal.

Mod warning is probably wrong as both versions are sold by Harvey Norman.

      Smart Lightbulb?
The buyer cant be smart to spend nearly a whole greeny for one light bulb.

      • That's not my point. The warning about these not meeting our standards is wrong.

      • 2x for $166 AUD shipped actually, just a couple of weeks ago. But thanks for your helpful comment.

    • True

    • Mod warning is probably wrong as both versions are sold by Harvey Norman

Possibly, but not for certain. There is no visible sign that the bulbs are compliant.

Major retailers have been caught out selling illegal items in the past. Kmart with non compliant electrical goods, Bunnings the same.

Until someone examines one in store, or someone who has one can report back, we just don't know for sure.

  • Big fan of this Globe and it's brightness although it was gimped a bit one of the firmware updates earlier in the year to reduce heat.
I moved into a 'modern' apartment two months back and the dam thing doesn't fit in any of the fittings now. They are fairly large :(
If you can fit it though, they are well worth it!

As you have one of these bulbs. Would you please tell us if it carries a logo showing it complies with Australian Electrical Safety standards. So that the warning may be removed if neccessary.

      Thanks.

      • you can see the standards its complied to on this pic

          So, not compliant for Australia?

Unless there is something else, further around the bulb?

      • I can check the box when I get home, I think I still have it. I would think it needs to be though for Harvey Norman to sell them legally.

        • I can check the box when I get home, I think I still have it.

It has to be on both the box and the device itself (in this case the base of the bulb).

I would think it needs to be though for Harvey Norman to sell them legally.

Yes, it "needs to be", and most probably it is compliant. However, several retailers have been caught out selling items unlawfully in the past - counterfeit makeup, uncertified electrical items - let down by their suppliers.

        • @A3Australia:

Ok no worries I will check when I get home. That's quite a few hours away though as the day only just started here in Perth so perhaps someone else will confirm meanwhile :)

The warning does make it clear that it is only "may not comply".

          @A3Australia:

I couldn't find the box, or the bulb for that matter :( lost in the storage room.

I had a look at one of the bulbs I just received. Indeed it has the "RCM Electrical Compliance Mark" which after some searching appears to mean its compliant with Australian standards.

          Kool.

Yes the "RCM Electrical Compliance Mark" replaces all the others that were used for Australia.

A bit strange. So some of their bulbs are compliant for Australia and some are not?

Which model bulb had the compliance mark? Is it the one being featured in this bargain post?

        • @A3Australia: Yes. The original - E27 type.

    • I moved into a 'modern' apartment two months back and the dam thing doesn't fit in any of the fittings now. They are fairly large :(

Given the cost of the bulb, it may be worth buying and installing a 'new' light fitting so you can use it.

      • Possibly :) Although I would want to change out two other fittings as well in the room to have some consistency.

I was considering getting a lamp stand for it instead.

Oh, I did not consider that point.

This would be the better option.

    • Same.. got four original bayonet fittings - moved house and all the lights are down lights, and the one exception in the kitchen uses screw fittings and holds two globs - even if I had the fittings changed I don't think the globes would fit due to the larger size. Good for a pendant light but other housings its gonna be tight.

  • How's the heat of these? Heard they run pretty hot.

Just noticed they have a new Color 1000 bulb at $59.99. Same size as the White 800.

  • As a kick starter backer I just received an email with "bonvoyage49" as a code to buy them at $49 USD .. not great but the code above has expired now.
