Need advise on 2006 Mazda 6 Classic potential purchase

Hi there,

I have been looking at Mazda cars lately and I really like either the mazda 6 or the mazda 3.
I will see a mazda 6 2006 manual with 190k on the clock this weekend, which seems in very good condition with log books and also 6 months rego.
The seller start price is 6k$ but I think I will be able to negotiate down to 5.5k$ or maybe less.
I am driving 5 days a week for a total of ~450km per week.
I most of the time drive the car alone, but will need it some weekends to go away with friends.

Besides of the AC which seems to give some trouble and must be check prior to buying a mazda 6, do you have any other advises for what to look for before being with these models?

Also, what do you think of the price?
Thanks everyone

  • Check cabin noise. The AC can end up being quite expensive to fix.

  • When was the timing belt last replaced?(usually done every 100k).

    • mazda 6 has chains, no need to replace

    • +1

Hi, I have heard that Mazda 3 / 6 are very reliable and if they have always been serviced correctly, they should be no worries with them.
That is why I did not pay too much attention to the mileage in first place

      • at a glance (and purely in terms of KMs and what cheapcharlie says)- I'd jump at the mazda 6 with 90,000 kms less for only $1000 more.

        450kms a week *52 = ~23,000 kms a year

so you have it for 4 years.

you would be pushing it to get to 300,000kms (you might be able to and everything is cool - I'm just saying)

where as the 100,000 km mazda 6 , in 4 years, will have done the same KMs as the one you are looking at now.

it seems more likely for a mazda 6 (or any car) to get to 200,000kms than 300,000kms (of course it could be written off at any point in an accident or stolen - but in pure driving terms).

then consider resale at the end of the 4 years 300,000+km mazda 6 versus 200,000+km mazda 6.

you'd probably find someone who looks at the 200,000km mazda 6 (in 4 years time) and says " I did not pay too much attention to the mileage in first place" and will buy it and with out significant loss to yourself.

        • Very good advise and it makes sense.
I am look at keeping the car I will buy for 1.5yr and I will use your math to think about "what might be the mileage" of the car I will buy from now on.
          Thanks a lot much appreciated

I am actually going to see the car you recommended now :).
hopefully can negotiate a bit the price !

  • Make sure the timing belt or chain… Not sure which… Has been done

      • thanks, I will look for that in 15mn :)
