I just buy the popcorn for like 1-2 dollars and make my own on the stove. Much healthier, a little fresh butter and salt.

    • +1

Much healthier, a little fresh butter and salt

You nearly had me until "butter"!

      • +1

Pop corn without butter or salt is practically muesli. But I eat so much of it when I make it myself. Try it with pepper.

        • yeah, you need a cooking medium otherwise it wont really pop. but you only need 2 tablespoons for about half a cup which will give you a huge bowl worth. butter is not unhealthy in moderation compared to what they put in the microwave pop (who knows what)

        • @porsche26c: I've always used oil over butter for cooking it. Peanut oil or anything that's hard to burn. Ie, anything but olive oil.

      • Butter would be better than the hard lard crap that is in that microwave poppy packet. I use just enough olive oil to heat the kernals and add the salt before it's popped.

  • Woolworths only accumulate the $10 off in multiples of 5. If this is all you buy you will only get $10 back. Something to keep in mind for future shopping, if you don't get points in multiples of 5 you lose the excess points.

    • +1

Sorry, I'm confused. If I accumulated $12 of rewards, wouldn't it be the case that the next time i shop I would get $10 off leaving a balance of $2?

      • my receipt said I had $5 in rewards and it accumulated in multiples of 5. Happy to be wrong

edit: looks like the faq says you can accumulate more than multiples of 5.

"Remember: Woolworths Dollars can only be redeemed in multiples of $10. For example, if your Woolworths Dollars balance is $12 and you spend $14 in an eligible shop, you'll get $10 off."

must have been a mistake on the receipt or I read it wrong

        • Would probably leave that extra $2 in the account though :)

        • @kronicmacstigator: Yeah lets hope so! it wold be rubbish if they didn't let it accumulate!

        • Statement was about redeeming "can only be redeemed in multiples of $10", leaving remainder in account.

I was amazed to see this place in the US, only sells popcorn, didn't get it until I tried the salted caramel http://www.garrettpopcorn.com/

    • It's so good!

  • hmm Spend $14 to get $10 back on stuff I don't even need

    • +1

      You don't need groceries?

      • +2

Yeh but I'm paying $14 to get $10 of groceries.. not really a major fan of popcorn, I'm more a chips man

        • +3

          netflix and chill

  • +1

So approx $4 for 14 bags of popcorn. I'm still trying to consume snacks bought during the half price specials.

  • +4

Not slamming this deal but this is probably about the same price, healthier just as easy:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEAQGEQrZs4

    • +1

Yeah, I estimate this would cost about 23c per serve by buying homebrands. 10c popcorn, 10c oil, 3c bag, 0c salt.

  • going to give this a go. so cheap.

  • In the long run it is effectively 28c/pack or $2.9 a kilo.
28 packs would cost you 64c each with $10 spare credits.

  • -2

So can i buy 14 packs, get the rewards, and return the 14 packs saying i dont have the receipt, get my $14 back plus $10 credit. Win - Win???

  • +1

Great! Just redeemed 2 $30 Optus Starter Kit that is $5 each today!

  • ha, have to laugh about making pop corn in a microwave nuke machine, got to be one of the most easy things to make with a good old saucepan and lid.

    • Takes longer, and you need to clean up.

      • Use a good quality non stick pan. Just wipe with a paper towel and you're done.

  • +6

I just went to the one in Wynyard Station Sydney and they only the same special price but only 25 cents credit.

    • Camberwell (VIC) also has this at 25 cents credit

    • Just scan it in self-serve, can see how much credit can earn

    • +1

Yep, my local Woolies (Cumberland Park, SA) also had the "25 cents credit" sign.
I bought some anyway. Got home and checked online, and it seems I still earned 72 cents credit per packet.

    • The Cabramatta store is the same - just arrived home after being disappointed by the discovery. :(
Edit: maybe I should've tried scanning. There were a lot of people in line though.

      • the 25c is last weeks sign. Check date on the sign and its 3/11

    • My local said 25c at the shelf, and I thought to myself "Oh really?" and then went to scan at the registers. Checked my docket and it was actually 72c. Trying to deter people at the shelf, so they doubt themselves and think it's not such a great deal. ($1 + 25c reward cash vs $1 + 72c reward cash). I still bought 10. Got $7.20 rewards cash. Got $1 the other day for Coffee Pods and $2 for 1Kg of Apples. Says I have $10 for next shop to use! :D

      • the 25c is last weeks sign. Check date on the sign and its 3/11

        • I didn't look too closely at the sign, I just saw 25c and the orange card picture. But why would they still have it up 2 days into the new catalogue? I still think they are trying to not reveal the true 72c you can earn with it. It's such a good deal. Buy for $1 and earn 72c reward cash.

        • +2

          @sagitox:

lol, then only ozbargainers know about this deal . Better for us.

Now im off to buy another 42 packs for $30 WW dollars

        • @easternculture: True. Or people who read the catalogue (online or hardcopy). Enjoy your WW Dollars and your Popcorn!

        • @sagitox:

probably will end up with 6 months worth of popcorn

  • +1

Good price for $0.28 ! Everyone wonder what's happening when I POPPP the popcorn

  • +4

I just been to Woolies went thru self serve. Bought 14 packets and received $10 credit straight away on my card. It tells you at the checkout and also on receipt. Went back thru did some more shopping then at checkout I received $10 off my shop. I bought another 14 packs so now I have another $10 credit next time I shop. Thanks for all the info. Works a treat

    • If you purchase the $28 packs in one transaction would u get $20 dollars straightaway?

      • +1

You get it to use on your next 'qualifying' purchase. Yes you would get $20. I tried it out first to see if it would work and it did

  • -2

went to safeway in QV Melbourne CBD
They are selling it at normal price without any woolies dollars

  • Thanks, the whole year worth of popcorn for me :D

    • how long do they last (expiry date not how long til you finish them ;) )

      • Woohoo, don't care about expiry date, walking dead style, they ate all expired packaged food without getting sick lol.

        • +1

so we should stock up for the zombie apocalypse !!

  • with 10% off Woolworths staff discount, it only costs 18c a packet. (they get 10c off the $1 they pay per packet and get then also get 72c woolworths dollars credit)

    • i told one of the staff about it, showed her my receipt . She then headed off and put some on the side

  • +3

Is it odd that I just bought 30 packs and thinking of buying another 30 packs? Na I'm just an ozbargain member. This behavior is expected from me…..

    • i bought 42 and buying another 42 tomorrow lol

  • +1

    Reversing Woolworths Dollars
Woolworths may reverse (debit) any Woolworths Dollars which have been or are to be credited to your Woolworths Dollars balance where you have returned goods or have been refunded for services under transactions on which you have earned Woolworths Dollars or where there are other grounds which Woolworths considers reasonable to warrant a reversal including, without limitation, Woolworths Dollars credited erroneously or fraudulently

  • If you find out that it's marked as 0.25 for woolworths rewards credit per popcorn don't worry. It's actually 0.72 after you scan your Woolies Rewards Cards in the check out.

  • Just bought 30 of them. Nice work :-)

    • What's the expiry? Assuming you eat 1 a week would mean 30 weeks which is 7.5 months meaning next July

      • there's about 9-12 months left on most of the ones i just bought

      • +1

Yeah, about a year or so, but "expiry" is a bogus concept for this sort of crap, I suspect. My wife will take them to parties, etc..

  • +8

Just bought 42 and got $30 back. Then used the $30 to do my shopping. Also bought a $30 optus sim for $5.

    Thanks OP

    Total savings today = $103

    • Popcorn: $30.42 + $30.42 WW dolars
    • Optus SIM: $25
    • Other items purchaced with WW dollars: $18

Thats how we real ozbargainers roll !!

    • Is the Optus SIM a catalog discount, or full price but you used free WW dollars to purchase it?

      • Catalog discount. Just ask for one at the service desk

  • smashed 2 packets of the cheese tonight -_-

    • yum !!

    • No… Dont get the Cheese one, very smelllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy !

      • but very tastyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy <3

        • My mum vomited last night with that "Cheesy" Smell, and the smell takes ages to go away

She warned me dont make it again at home :(

      • i love the cheese ones .. Yummy !!

    • I was a bit skeptical because I had tried the WW Select Cheese flavoured ones a while back, and they were just gross, couldn't finish them. So I grabbed a pack of the Poppin ones, and they are pretty good!. But a little smelly as mentioned :)

  • +1

I bought 14 of the Poppin 'RAW' all natural ones at my local. There were absolutely no tickets anywhere on shelf, so nobody knew they were on special! Cheers ec, much appreciated.

    • wat flavour are u gonna use?

  • +1

Haha. Bought 14 then got the rest of my shopping.. instant $10 off. Thanks op! :-)

In other news, Balaclava VIC Woolworths seems to have a bunch of of the 190g Cadbury Pretzel & Peanut chocolate blocks with clearance stickers for $1. I got 5. Couldn't see anything wrong with them!

    • Good buying. Not a bad flavour.

  • +1

Someone must have ripped the sale signs off the shelves at Parramatta NSW. Scanned through as reported here though.

Interestingly the "triple butter flavour explosion" has less calories, less carbs, less fat, and less sodium than the regular "butter" flavour per 100g. I don't really know what to make of that.

    • Super dooper amounts of MSG perhaps?

  • bought in WA store, no issues, though also had the 25c ticket, suspect woolies is trying to minimise the damage by having less buyers?

bought 4x of the $3 paper with the $10

    • +2

"suspect woolies is trying to minimise the damage by having less buyers?"

You do know they CHOSE to make this deal available. Nobody had a gun to their head.

  • +2

Anyone else notice the 'Light' version has exactly the same ingrediants as the regular one?
Less fat, because its 15% smaller, and contains 17% more corn kernals! jesus…

    • Good pickup. That's hilariously false advertising.

  • Thanks OP :)

    • +1

Got 28 packs thinking about going back for more… Thanks :)

      • +1

        You're welcome :)

  • All the regular butter flavour was gone at my local WW. There was a few Triple Butter, a few Cheese, and a shelf full of the Lite :)

  • Bought 6 of these to get my balance over W$10 and then redeemed the W$10 on a bottle of wine at BWS, which, in turn gave me another W$1 back!

I wasn't sure if it could be redeemed against alcohol but it worked & also wasn't sure if I'd earn dollars during redemption but that worked too.

I'm still not a fan of this new reward system but today felt like a win (free bottle of wine).

    • Great deal. But don't know about "Free" as you need to consider the $6 you outlaid on the popcorn. :)

      • Yeah, was going to put a ? next to the word free..

Put another way, I didn't hand over any cash to the bottle shop

  • Ive been picking up 5 of these every time i go to Woolies. Have just been getting the Raw ones as my son loves them and they're not that bad for you as there is no buttery shit like in the butter ones i love lol

    • +1

      i went a bit overboard.

I got 84 packs. Good thing they have over 1 year expiry

      • Gee, I thought I went overboard with 38..
