OzBargainers Please Help Me Find a Bike for My Girlfriend - $400 Budget

Hello Ozbargainers. I'm searching for a hybrid or roadbike preferably flatbar for my girlfriends birthday next week.
Any help greatly appreciated, budget up to $400.

She's is 6' 9'' tall and will be using it in the city and weekend trips away. Thanks :)

6Ft9!!!! Why ride anywhere when every destination is a few steps away?

Plenty of good places to buy in Melbourne. My pick right now would be this from Reid Cycles:
    http://www.reidcycles.com.au/reid-urban-x0.html
$399 with free lights pump etc

or this $349 (although L might not be big enough)

Unless you're confident (and you've done it before) pick up pre-assembled instore, otherwise home assembly can be beyond some people.

  • She's is 6ft9 tall

    typo?

    • I don't think so. Yao ming (basketball player) is 229 CM tall, which is over 7 and a half foot.

She is "only" 205cm (converted from Feet and inches), which is not beyond the realm of possibility. Still, I've met some seriously tall women. My manager is 6"8, can reach really high places without a stepladder. But ironically, is afraid of heights…

      • A 6ft9 woman is like 5 standard deviations. It's pretty tall.

I've never met a woman taller than me ~6'4". Close though

    • He meant 5'9, almost 6 ft.

who says the OP is a he?

    • Those who have met him IRL…

  • At least you wouldn't need to crouch down in the shower

  • OP can you confirm height? This will limit your options and our suggestions.

  • Hahahaha sorry definite typo ;/ 5ft 9 , apologies!

  • The Reed hybrids look good value though don't have the cool factor that I'm looking for

  • Gumtree, good deals happening all the time. Will save you on tax too!

  • Cheer's I'll have a good trawl through Gumtree :)

  • Anaconda sell their own Fluid brand and when it's half price (often) it's $349 for a hybrid. For regular commuting it's fine, my partner has one.

Just remember it's not for downhill mtb :-D
