  • Wow it is good deal if the base is included…

    or this from masters

  • That is pretty good if a weighted base is included but I doubt it.
Still a fair price, maybe they are trying to beat Aldi this week.

Aldi have theirs on sale this Saturday @ $55 but no base other than the standard cross bars.

I picked up four concrete squares from Bunnings Garden section to hold mine down.

I used to regularly see my neighbour's Cantilever Umbrella hanging over his boundary wall or hear it slamming into things.
These things really need to be packed up whenever the wind picks up beyond a gentle breeze. As should any lawn umbrella; I had one that went airborne and flew across a 2-lane street during a storm.

    • If you weigh them down with the recommended weight they are fine even in moderate wind. Problem is, going with the cheaper option of the 400x400 pavers only adds up to around half the recommended weight. So I put an extra four pavers on top of the bottom four and it will only try and lift in heavy winds/storms. But we won't be outside using it in that kind of weather anyway. I never leave it up when we aren't using it though, as they will act like a parachute in heavy winds/storms.

      • How much were the pavers? x8 I'm assuming?

$6 each with discount coupon at masters. Cheaper than the dedicated weights they were selling. I found that the wind can only get under the umbrella from one direction where I have it located, so I really only need six, with the extra 2 on the side that tries to lift.

        • Cool, thanks for the reply.

I dont see anything natural about it.

  • Interested in the swing but wanting a cushioned one. Although I supposed can just purchase cushions separately….

  • Aldi have the same one for $50 this week. But it will be useless without a weighted base.

EDIT - OK I see from the pic it is designed to take four 400mm pavers around it. So if you have a paved area (where the pavers are loose) you could use it but otherwise useless…

    • You can put it anywhere. Just buy as many 400x400mm pavers as you need to keep it down, and don't leave it open in high winds.

  • I got one of these the other day. Fantastic deal. As people say, you need a 2 to 4 slabs on the base to keep it upright, and I wind them down when it gets windy which only takes a minute.

Other ones at bunnings are $500+ for basically the same thing!

  • Could you use a pair of sandbags or tent pegs instead.

This model of cantilever umbrella has been superseded with a new version that has an arm from the mast tip to the top of the umbrella (the new style sold at Aldi 22/11).

Be careful with this old version as the crank handle is quite weak and easily breaks - so don't over-wind it!

Also it's worth investing in a cover or make sure you apply some paint/lacquer over all the screws as they rust after a couple of years (mine last about 2.5 years).

I purchased the new version but picked up a cover off ebay for $28 (get the cover with a rod so it's easy to put on).

  • Thanks OP got one from Cottesloe
