    7-Eleven "Epic Deals" - $1 Cadbury

    89 cents at the supermarkets…

    • Supermarkets on almost every corner of the CBD?

      • +1

Neither can you find 7-Eleven in 'almost every corner' of the CBD. Convenience Store are everywhere, 7-Eleven is just one of the chains.

      • Coles 650 stores, Woolworths 872, 7/11 620.

A 7/11 store on almost every corner of the CBD? No wonder they are going broke and don't pay correct wages.

        EPIC fail

    Yeh-Nah
I'm still miffed at how they were reported to be treating their staff.
    Put me right off 7/11
I'm not neging your post but can't in good conscience spend my money there

Me as well! I'm just the messenger lol

When it comes to 'deals' I'm sure most don't care about ethics.

      • Wrong buddy. No one cares about ethics as long as it's not revealed.

    • I regularly pop into a 7/11 after work shifts for a refreshing sugarfree Slurpee. Chat to the dude behind the counter who seems to work every single night O_O Incredibly nice guy. Studies by day, works by night into the wee hours.

Anyway, one night in the flow of our brief chit chat he mentioned his new pay (I asked if things were better, so he didn't simply drop the topic out of nowhere) and said he gets paid $40 p/h on weekends and $30 p/h weekdays. My eyes nearly fell out of their sockets and I asked him to repeat. I didn't mishear. I couldn't ask for more details/specifics… mainly because my bus was due any minute and I had to run, and also I wasn't sure if I would have been comfortable asking for exact details even if I had more time. But damn. What a jump. I almost still can't believe it. I'm quite skeptical of it being true.. overcompensation much? I could look into the award I guess? I admit I'm curious.

Glad if it's true - but the employees I've chatted to are still working their butts off IMO. Their choice I suppose. Props to them. I just beg them to look after themselves and get more sleep >_<

      7-11 "Epic Tax Evasion"!

      • +1

Google? Facebook? the list goes on…

        • In the interests of impartiality, 7/11 is clear tax avoidance/evasion (illegal) while the likes of Google/Facebook is more tax minimisation (legal, but is only barely less scummy behaviour).

        • @DeafMutePretender: Still doesn't change the outcome. Only that one is doing it smarter than another.

7/11 rip off their staff, eb games do it but not as badly. grild were caught doing it.
wonder how many others do it.
i generally boycott 7/11 thesedays too.

Dominos… pizza hut… those two are also favourites amongst ozbargainers.

      • Depends on the franchise. Some dominos pay staff fairly but employ younger people to save costs. My local has fair wages after speaking to a few of the staff. Dunno if they are lying to save their jobs or protect their boss though.

        • So is 7/11, pays are franchisee dependent.

I am not saying 7/11 is a socially responsible entity, nor that I am a fan of them personally (except for the slurpees). Only to point out reality.

Franchising model is a very poor business model with the top layer taking a big cut and leaving little for the very bottom layer. The only way that it will likely to work is when the process is extremely efficient, thus cost cutting thats passed onto the franchisees, or with some sort of copyrighted process or product that allows a premium to be charged (but its rare for patent holders to franchisee such cash cow). I dont see it in majority of the franchisees operating in Australia.

    • EB staff has lots of 'other' benefits. They can play new game, put it back in the drawer and sell as brand new.

They can steal games, game code, or other things that will never get found out until the next yealy stocktake.

They can replace their own damaged disc/box, missing manual/booklet, cheaper 'other region' disc, etc with the store stocks.

These are just a few things that a former EB child labor told me.

  • Good call

The poor underpayed staff only got the jobs in the first place because of the rate they chose to accept, most of them were fresh off the boat and would've had trouble getting jobs any other way and probably wouldn't have got the job over other applicants if it were full rate - same goes for the franchise owners who undercut other offers. From the bottom to the top they were all part of the problem. I don't see the point of avoiding them now that they are doing the right thing, people were more than happy to support them before they were caught and it was pretty obvious.
