Which then is sold at pretty much the same price as the original game. :)

Btw the game is also on sale directly via Frontier at 9.99 pounds, in case you want to bypass the awesomeness that is Steam Customer Support :)

    • I wonder if there will be a bundle deal in the future then?

      • +1

If you purchase Elite Dangerous Horizon, you get Elite Dangerous free, but you can only access the whole game once Horizon releases. So 39.99 pounds for both together.

Boring game, but the price is good . Worth to take a look. I paid $100 :-(

    • Yeah I backed the kickstarter too.
I could just never get into the game like I did the old one.
The expansion is coming out soon I think?

      • +1

Hey, at least the space sim game you guys backed in KS actually got a release. I am yet to enjoy that moment :(

        • Star citizen?

        • @irishjoe:
          Yerrpp….. :|

        • Unlucky. Hopefully it's worth the wait.

@shadowarrior: I can't figure out how people keep throwing so much money into that game… They are almost selling vapourware. It's either going to be amazingly awesome or some people are going to be quite upset.

        • @shadowarrior:

The 2.0 release looks great, if I was a backer that would make me happy with the progress.

@samfisher5986: Its still a video of said module….not released yet. And no official release schedule yet.

        • @Elijha: They are selling stuff of a franchisee….for which the main franchisee product still doesn't exist :( The new controller for example…

          @shadowarrior:

Actually the 2.0 Alpha (FPS, dogfighting, mini-persistent-universe, quantum travel and local physics grids all rolled into one) has been released to a handful of backers (those who have submitted the most bug reports) and is quite playable. Crashes every 5 minutes, but that's why it's limited to bug testers at the moment. Once the bugs and crashes are lessened a bit, it'll be opened to all.

You can watch people playing it on Twitch right now!

        • @Kritter2069: Ah, didn't know that. Thanks for the update and yeah, would make sense to do a close release to the most active testers.

This is on sale now because Elite: Dangerous Horizons is coming out next week. Horizons is the addon, but when you buy it, they will give you this game with it.

    • Thanks for that. I think I will hold off if that is the case. I've been quite keen on this game but many people have said it's quite boring.

    • Are you sure .. because when it was announced the 'pre order' price for the expansion 'Horizons' was separate from the 'game' price. Basically I held out because it seemed like if you bought Elite before the new release you would need to buy the upgrade (not cheap) but if you waited until after the release it will become the only version you can purchase. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=172800

As a new player buying Elite Dangerous: Horizons, can I play Elite Dangerous today?
If you pre-order Elite Dangerous: Horizons, you will unlock access to Elite Dangerous & Elite Dangerous: Horizons when Elite Dangerous: Horizons is release.
You will not be able to play Elite Dangerous before the release date of Elite Dangerous: Horizons.
To play Elite Dangerous today, you will need to purchase it separately in our store.

        https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=172800

        • How much is the "Upgrade" from the current Dangerous to Horizons? The pre-order for Horizons is 40 GBP. The current version is 10 GBP. So will it be "cheaper" one way or another?

        • +1

Yeah that doesn't disagree with what I was saying. Buy "horizons" from them and you are locked out until they release it. They state no Steam version date is known for Horizons so if you buy from steam you are on the initial game.. and will need to buy the upgrade at some point to get the new features (but hey if your hesitant at the steam price its a good way to see if you'll like it).

          Replying to my own question:
"Elite Dangerous: Horizons includes all Elite Dangerous content to date, and all players will continue to fly together in the same galaxy. Existing Elite Dangerous players receive a £10 loyalty discount off the price of Elite Dangerous: Horizons, retaining their progress and unlocking the exclusive ‘Cobra Mk IV’ in-game spacecraft."

Basically the upgrade will be 30GBP since they give you a 10 Pound discount (which you will use to buy this current version anyway). Means there is no "Discount" other than the fact that you can play it today (instead of next week) and you get the Cobra MKIII ship (the original Elite Ship).

        • @Elijha: I might get it tonight still.. but feel a bit bummed as there's no real discount once you put it all together this way. I've always been a fan of the Elite Frontiers and the endless planets etc. So much exploring to go to. Might go this way and see if they will drop the price of Horizons in a few months whilst I go through my other backlog of stuff to play as well..

@bchliu: I have been playing Star Point Gemini 2 a bit till they release Star Citizen.

        • @shadowarrior:

You should play Space Engineers, its amazing.

  • Awesome, been waiting for this to go sale.
By the time I get around to playing this and finishing it (if that's even possible), Horizons should be on sale.
    Win !

  • So the new Dangerous Horizons add on is for landing on planets. I think I can wait for a sale to get this. Loved Elite back in the day, really hoping this new version gives me the same enjoyment.

  • i'm considering to grab one of the copy, but i'm really afraid that i might not be able to enjoy it,
so do you guys think someone who loves playing Fallout and Elder Scrolls game will like this game ?

    • If you are looking for that sort of game then you won't like this. This is an open sandbox with no specific structure or guides on what 'you should be doing' essentially it is a big grind game to earn cash to buy bigger ships, and it can be fun if you play as a group/ interact with other people. Most missions seem to be buy this or find that and can essentially boil down to flying from A to B maybe kill X. Watch some videos on youtube and see if it is something you would like to do. They do seem to have a game plan with more content ( ie Horizons lets you explore planets and planet side bases) but I don't think they will ever get to generating specific content paths.

      • i see, but i kinda like mount and blade back in the days, but i think this game has much potential, but really lack of content, i mean, if they can add more populated system, which got route and etc and seeing lots of random npc entering and leaving space station, large scale spaceship battle with mothership, this game will be a blast
