You must have missed the DSE crazy sales.

  • specs say "DVB-T Decode - MPEG2" - do you get 9HD on it? just curious as 9HD uses mpeg4

also - anyone know if this can play MKV's off an external HDD?

    • +2

If its for replacing his Mum's old crappy CRT, even she doesn't get 9HD it'll still be a massive improvement :)

      • +4

If it does not receive Channel 9 at all, it will be an even bigger improvement.

    • I have a dse viano 32 and it don't get 9 hd. As this is in the living area and I have it in during the day for the cricket this is unfortunate.

    • +2

According to a memo sent from Head Office, "All current model DS TV's receive and decode this channel in HD"

      • so the tv decodes mpeg4 HD channels ? can anyone confirms it works with the new encoding of Nine HD ?

    • +1

I have one, thumb drive in Fat32 only

      • how do you play large 1080p mkv's if 4gb is the file size limit? hmm…I guess my raspberry pi with xbmc will be the way to go

        • +2

Yeah, you know what is awesome? The Philips HMP5000 media box at DSE currently for $29. Plays everything and reads any formatted HDD. I have that connected to this TV.

        • @clarky:

hey that sounds like something my folks could use… can't see it on their website at all… was this one of the clearance items?

        • @ideasman: yes, it was on their website and they removed it but I found a few I store. Also the HMP4000 model is $20.99. It is the same but without wifi/Ethernet

        • @clarky:
Thanks man! Grabbed the last (on display) hmp4000 from our local ds.

        • @ideasman: Awesome!

The cheapest I've seen this model was around this time last year, picked it up from DSE website for $224 click and collect.

    • I paid about the same.. Might have also gotten an ebay voucher with it too.

    • +1

Ditto, got one for the parents.
      Ok picture, terrible sound.

  • +2

    Not the worst TVs…. I have a 32".

    Haven't tested on games.

    Recording function is cool.

    Menus are slow.

I like the really thin profile of the TV though.

    • The menus aren't super fast but they are faster than my Samsung fhd 51inch plasma from a few years ago.

The TV is great for gaming too.

      • Is the picture quality good and low lag?

If so then I might get this to replace my 32" Hisense which is starting to show its age.

        • +1

For games and Netflix and movies it is surprisingly good, especially for the price.

Free to air isn't as good as the image quality for games/movies but I'm definitely not disappointed with it. It's a good TV for its price for sure.

You will want to put some speakers on them though, I connected my cheap logitech pc speakers to them and they work fine.

  • +2

The reviews are pretty consistent in that the sound quality is very average and that a sound bar or external speakers are required

    • +2

Doesn't that go for all TVs? At least if you care about sound at all.

      • +1

Yeah somewhat, some tvs have pretty average sound however The reviews for this TV on the DSE site are pretty adamant about shite sound. Most other tvs are fine. My changhong 40" is pretty good - loud & clear.

    • +1

I have this TV, very happy with it. Using home theatre amp to by pass sound, and all is well

  • +1

Good Tv. You will need to add some speakers to it though.

    • +2

Try to find a cheap home theatre system from dicksmith…..instore. Or even Kmart. The speakers will help.

  • Got this for the $220 price for kids room. on Wii U and Xbox looks good.

    TV viewing can be average.

    • That is like alot of smart TV's though. Put on Netflix or a blue ray and it looks great for the price.

  • I have one of these and agree with the last few comments, is almost unwatchable without additional soundbar or speakers, tip - if you find a cheap hdmi soundbar it turns on and off and adjusts volume with tv remote

  • Anyone use this as a computer monitor?
