Thinking of Buying S6 Active Unlocked from US

hi guys,

no sure if it's a good idea and want some opinion, the only issue I can think of is charger, easy fix, just buy adapter, or just buy wireless charger in Australia, also no sure about gsm, is it just relating to mobile internet speed? any suggestion appreciated.

    Go to http://www.willmyphonework.net/

I'm pretty sure this phone was made for AT&T (american provider) so it could be a locked device.

enter relavant information, it'll tell you if that specific model works with your chosen telco.

Remember that Samsung makes different models for different regions so it is possible that a Samsung S6 for example, can have multiple models within with very similar names.

GSM is a worldwide standard, but in Australia we use 3G UMTS / HSDPA and also 4G FDD LTE.

All the relevant 3G and 4G frequency bands in use in Australia is listed here

  • S6 Active I think had a locked bootloader, which would rule out custom ROMs (unless someone finds a way to unlock it).
Though S6 Active was a niche product, I'd assume you'd have a hard time finding a custom ROM for it, even if it is possible (finding a custom ROM for S4 Active was annoying and that thing was released in several places, S6 Active would be in worse position).
Wasn't it AT&T exclusive? I am not sure what else they would've placed on it.
I've heard that it just got 5.1.1. (like last month), so I'd say you'd get a horrible software support on it (it being an exclusive model and all).

  • Warranty in aust?

  • thanks guys, it should comes with international warranty I suppose?, anyone know how int. warranty works?

Nope, the warranty wouldn't work like that. There are companies that do international warranty, but Samsung is definitely not one of them. Besides, S6 Active is an exclusive model, I doubt Samsung Australia will even stock the parts for them, which would mean you'd need to ship the phone to America (AT&T or Samsung, depending on who's in charge of warranty process of S6 Active).

If you ask me, while the phone is nice, you'd be better off getting a different phone, simply from the hassles you'd go through getting the phone, checking the network band, and the risks associated with device breaking down and you ending up with no phone that works for a while.

      • oh, forgot it's exclusive, s6 active is so much better than s6, wonder if they ever going to release in oz, I guess I have to buy s6 then put on some ugly protective case and with the pitiful battery life that s6 has..

        • Wait till Galaxy S7? The rumours suggest that there is a high chance that it will be released within 3 months time (The earliest one that I've seen were, announcement on January, release on January).
