Cigweld 135 Amp MIG + Cigweld Auto Darkening Helmet $299 @ Masters

80

Hey guys, spotted this earlier but I have only just finished work.

Very good price for a nice little welder, it will do most jobs that a handyman/hobbyist will require. It's a pretty good price for the unit itself but with the added bonus of the cigweld auto darkening welding helmet ($100+) sweetens the deal even more so.

I have this welder at home for general/light duties such as car body panel work, fencing, making up jigs for custom parts etc. It runs off of a standard 240v plug and doesn't require 3phase like my bigger migs do.

This was spotted at Rutherford Master's, there were two pallets with these on them, not sure if it's nation wide or not, you will have to check when they reopen.

    • Says $200 for me!

      • Bargain…Pricing on Clearance items varies by store based on stock on hand.

    • Bayswater WA has Low Stock (guess I got the last click & collect…)
Birghton/Butler also has Click and Collect.

Hardly comparable, even when pitted against Cigweld's budget weldskill series. Good luck finding readily available spares for it too, you can get spares for the cigweld from any brick and mortar hardware store.

argmachinery changed the name to edison because of poor history , beware

Don't waste your time at Chullora, no stock.

Well technically they have the 135 and the auto darkening helmet there but this deal is for a single box set which isn't in stock.

Wish I slept in after all.

Bought some WD40 to wash my sorrows away (use 1678)

    • Thanks for saving me a trip out there

They put aside the normal box (no helmet - $379) for my click and collect order. The combined set were all sold out by the time I picked it up so they ended up just giving me the helmet separately. No chance of getting the same deal by just walking in though. Good service by Masters to make up for their small mistake. Easy to grab the wrong box when they all look the same.

  • Anyone with welding experience still subscribed to this thread?

I am looking into buying a welder. Mostly to weld steel tubes for gates, raised garden beds, etc. Perhaps work on my car at a later stage.

I have never welded before. An in-law, who is a boilermaker by trade, showed me his welders.

The one he recommended for a beginner was a Cigweld 170A Inverter Arc welder (Model #W1002901, can be found for $300+). He strongly discouraged me from considering gasless MIG and the ongoing cost of bottle hire rules out proper MIG at least for now.

    Any opinions?

    • We use the Cigweld 170A inverters at work when required as they're a good lightweight welder with plently of power and not too overly priced. One of the guys has the 130A which is also fine. (Domestic construction) I was planning on buying the 170A but in my online research to see if there was a cheaper equivalent option I found this deal. The Mig is a lot easier (IMO) than stick and will do most of what I require. I've never used gasless Mig before and was pleasantly surprised after hearing negative comments as well. I still plan to get the 170A but this deal was too good to pass up…especially if you can get it for around $200.

There's one or two companies that do a swap and go type system for Argon. The outlay will be more but there will be no rental. I'm hoping Bunnings will join those companies as they already stock Oxygen and Acetylene.

If your looking at doing some car work then a Mig with gas would be my first point of call. Much easier to weld thinner metals, with less heat and splatter. Please take my advice with a grain of salt though as your in-law would have MUCH more experience and knowledge than me. :-)

The last guy at work bought his 170A with auto helmet for $315.

      • Thanks a lot for your detailed reply. My in-law let me have a go with his welders when I met him at Christmas.

Based on that very limited experience (trying to weld a few straight lines on a piece of scrap metal) I absolutely agree that MIG with gas makes that much easier than stick welding.

I was going to buy the 170A on Ebay when they cancelled the 15% off early. So right now I am back to the drawing board. Finding a price similar to what your friend paid would put the 170A back on the top of my list, but lacking that I will keep an eye open for other specials like this deal.

  • Does anyone know if there is any stock left at Bayswater or Butler WA?

Picked one up for $211. Had seen the $299 price which I thought was good. Came across this post and saw different stores had different prices so checked online and rang around. Also came with a 100mm roll of gasless wire $29, cigweld cap, a number of tips etc. VERY happy backyard welder.
