You can still get the Telstra iPhone 5S for $499 with local warranty rather than buying it from Kogan ($499 plus delivery). Limited to Space Grey though. According to most people on previous threads - it is locked, but only a phone call away from unlocking it to any network.

    • Some people have reported free unlocking, but the official line is that it is locked, so a bit of a gamble, though I guess it will not be more than $80 to unlock anyway.

    • I'd get it from telstra, saving isn't great enough to have to wait.

Australian stock Telstra prepaid price has been $499 for a few weeks now and can be unlocked for free. It's also available in store.

      That time of the month?

    • I buy my phones from them and they are fine (samsung) …… but I usually save about $200 compared to local so it's worth the wait.

But the price of iPhones 5s in australia vs overseas isn't worth the wait …… I'd get it from Telstra.

Telstra are great on back-up and service …… I'm with Optus but have used telstra in the past and for some services.

Same price. Space Grey. JB Hi-Fi Telstra Pre-Paid.

    • Noob question- does unlocking the phone from Telstra do anything negative as far as warranty is concerned?

      • No.

LOL @ save $330. Was iPhone 5s $829 before the discount?

    • I think the official price still is $749 AUD on Apple's website. Pretty dodgy for a 2 year old+ model huh?

  • Because it's your first post, I refrain from negging this, as pointed out by other, buying from Telstra or jb works out cheaper, come with Australian plug and 2 year warranty..

  • Would it be fair to say that the Samsung S5 and this are on par spec and camera wise?

      get the samsung S5 from Harvey Norman ….. $397 less $25 welcome …. less $50 amex …… $322 BOOM.
Camers are about the same ….. can't tell the difference ……. no phones are good in low light due to small lens and can't cath much light

No wonder apple shares are falling ….. who can still afford their phones ….. though I do own their laptop, iPod, iPad ……
I will get their phone when the iPhone S6 is $500 ……. they keep adding features to keep the prices high …… features i don't need finger reader and the phone or iPad costs $200 more LOL.

Wish they made their phone with in feature purchases ….. basic phone $400, finger reader activation +200, extra memory activation +100, faster cpu activation +$100.

lots of products now come with software activated features that are extras.

      • Actually no, my s4 camera blow my miss 5s away so the s5 must have beaten it hand out. In low light they're pretty much the same but outside in daylight the Samsung's win every time.

I bought the $499 5s from JB. It was a gift, so on the morning of the 24th I rang Telstra to have it unlocked. I was asked if I had any services with Telstra, I said yes and gave her my home phone number. She replied "so it's free", and unlocked it. Hope this helps.
