Help with a New NBN Connection

Looking for advice on how to configure a NBN connection. I got what I think is a good Telstra M bundle with double data and local and national calls included. My current setup for ADSL is a bridged modem and an AirPort Extreme (AE) router. The NBN is now available for connection and waiting on an appointment date and the TBox.

Am I correct in thinking that I can connect the AE to the Gb port on the TBox, put the TBox in bridge mode and plug the phone in the TBox phone port will work and give the best performance? Or is the another way. I was going to do the same connection without the TBox in bridge mode and its wifi turned off.

  • Replace bridged modem with tbox. Plug in analog phone into voip port. Telstra modem may need sip config
    Done

  • What NBN are you getting?
If it's Fibre to the Home (FttH) they'd have installed a box inside your home. If it's Fibre to the Node (FttN), then you'll still be getting internet through your phone line.
FttH - you'll have a Uni-V port on the box that NBN installed in your house.
You can plug a phone directly into it.
FttN - You'll have to switch to a SIP setup through the modem supplied by the ISP.

    • Yes it is FttH, the outside box has been installed for a few months with inside box to be installed as part of the bundle.

My understanding is that the Telstra M bundle is a VOIP connection on the TBox and a separate UNI-V connection would be an extra $30/month.
