  • But I still haven't found a use for the free meraki access point from last time!

    • I am sure i can help offload that for you ;)

      • Didnt get the accesspoint for the last session i attended. The meraki guy said its only available if you order few access points though i work in IT.

        • The meraki guy was bul*ting you. The t&C are quite clear and there is no obligation to purchase anything. I had to chase up their AP after several month of not receiving it, but got it finally.
The AP is not actually bad, probably best fitted for a SOHO type of business who cannot afford to have a dedicated IT guy but requires reliable connection. A lot can be done remotely and it has a lot of functions otherwise found in Enterprise deployments.
Call back and demand the reward for your time as promised.

  • They no good? I'm just keen to have myself a well priced Poe switch lying around

  • +4

One free switch per person per organisation and not eligible for resellers, partners and distributors. That pretty much blows most people out..

  • So how do I register, I must be blind as I cant see where on the linked page?

    • Just updated with the link

  • Will Cisco contact the IT professionals?

    • +12

But we are all professionals. Just register with your local HN address. Jerry Harvey will be happy to confirm your professional status

      • Won't they ship it to the registered business address? Could be a problem if that's HN.

Do you have to be available to watch the January 13 (Wed) webinar at 12pm, or else the next one is not until March - it's not streamed on demand?

Oh well, signed up, will give it a go.

      • +2

We are all professional bargain hunters

    • Yes, they will contact you to confirm the shipping address.

  • I am getting "please enable javascript" on my submit button - it is enabled!!! I disabled it, re-enable it and refreshed - still the same message. Is anyone else getting this message, or did you guys kill the page?

    • I just switched dates back and forth on the left hand side and it worked.

    • Jus try a different browsa

    • +10

It's a test to see if you're a true IT professional. If you get it to work then you pass.

      • I did actually think that, but cbf working on it before coffee, and thought I would try the KISS principle and see if the page was broken before I tried to fix it.

      • +2

Lmao was going to say he surely can't be an IT professional

    • Yeah I'm getting the same issue with Firefox, Safari and IE on multiple machines, appears it's broken

Edit: Seems if you keep trying it works occasionally

      • dammit, looks like I need to install Chrome again - this week we use firefox, we have always used firefox, we will always use firefox, but somewhere in my memeory is a hint of when we used chrome, we had always used chrome, and will always use chrome. bahahaha

  • Dammit we are a Cisco Partner.

Quite racist against cisco partners… against THEMSELVES omg

    • Didn't stop me from trying.

      • Be careful brah

I've heard that you can end up in jail if you fool around :S

    Thanks :)

  • +7

    Hmm, Cloud networking..
Your private network hardware is always connected to the Meraki data centers….
That sounds like a great idea… Rolls eyes

    • +3

But the cloud is secure! My executive management say so. It has nothing to do with the fact that they can hide IT expenses from the board as OpEx rather than CapEx so they get a bigger bonus!

    • May work as a dumb POE gigabit switch if you don't configure the Meraki side of things..

Err..do these seriously sell for $1400?

      • +4

No, they are only manageable via the Cloud Interface.

BTW These will come with a free 1 year Cloud Controller license.

After that expires, you'll need to buy a new license, or this thing will literally be useful as a doorstop only.

        • +2

Ahh, which is $82 (for 1 year) or as low as $40 a year if you buy a 10yr licence for around $400 - judging by my Staticice link below.

        • +2

          @systmworks:

PRETTY USEFUL INFO RIGHT ABOVE THIS!

So to run this thing, it needs a licence you must buy every year?
So it's free for 1 year, and then its a doorstop?
          Yeah- no thanks.

(But big thanks to jnewau and systmworks for saving me a crapload of time by jumping through all these hoops)

        • @UFO:

          Same as Cisco telephony.

        • @UFO: or free for a year and then sell on ebay?

        • 3 yea license, not 1.

        • Shouldn't they still work after the licence expires? You just won't be able to change the configuration?

    • so you dont think I am a tin foil hatter for building a seperate always offline rig to work on my digital content then?

  • the Webinar is on the 13th on Jan, I'll most likely be busy when it happens so this deal isn't for everyone.

  • +1

Hmm, the clause that gets me is have an active role of managing, maintaining, or monitoring their organization’s network infrastructure.

DHCP and DNS servers are network infrastructure right?

    • +1

      Yep :)

    • +6

Do you really work on DHCP or DNS servers but not know they're part of a network? o_O

  • How much is the value of the switch? My company has a policy not to accept any gifts higher than $100 and most likely I need to report it to my manager before accepting the gift. In the end, it's too painful process.. :'(

  • -1

Opooooos,I don't have business address, but I really want to have it, What a pity, I'm just studying in it.Somebody can offer me a deal.

  • Cisco live coming up in march in melb. should be able to pick up this or a AP

  • Classic example of a targeted deal. Belong in the forums. Not available to the general community.

  • What's their definition for an organisation? Does a home-office startup qualify?

    • The organisation staff number question starts at "1-99" so yes?

  • I signed up a few hours ago and actually work as a network engineer, but:

"Thank you for your interest in our webinar, Introducing the Next Generation of Ethernet Switching. At this time, we have reached our registration cap and are unable to process your information."

    :(

    • I'm in the same boat, and received the same reply :(

    • +1

That's unfortunate because I'm sure there are some that have tried signing up even thought the have no IT background.

  • Surely they can be used as a layer 2 poe switch when the license is done?

    • +1

No, Meraki kit stops working when the Cloud license expires. It's completely useless without an active license so a new license would need to be purchased after 1 year

  • I just received this email-

Thank you for your interest in our webinar, Introducing the Next Generation of Ethernet Switching. At this time, we have reached our registration cap and are unable to process your information.
We apologize for the inconvenience. We will be running more switch webinars in the future, so keep an eye on our webinars page!

Please reach out to your sales rep or [email protected] with any questions.

  • APs were limited to 2 per company. So that was validated as 2x per email domain.

No APs for our techs that each have their own schools to admin, but come under the one domain name. :(

Poor form by Cisco Meraki for not being upfront with this.

Downvoting for Ciscos fulfillment rate - good work posting this and good luck to any that can get it!

  • +1

good luck getting them to follow through, i know some people get em but it seems like a con. ive been chasing their rep for like 3 months on and off, never get a response… and i actually legitimately want to test one out before we scrap our current office network gear.

    • I have had no problems. They have put on more reps as they are growing locally.

    • Same here, got mine after 6 months. Bad luck for them, meanwhile worked out different solution to our small sites.

  • -1

This seem to be spam >>> Successfully registered and then apology email. may be they are collecing the official email id's

This deal was posted 11 hours ago.. plenty of people got the "Your spot is saved!" confirmation emails in the first 4 or 5 hours after it was posted.

  • wouldn't waste my time…. These clowns didn't want to send out the free access point to us for some reason. They wouldn't give one. So won't be going back a 2nd time!

  • This is a sales lead.

You will get called or emailed by a sales rep.

I found a vxmail in my message bank. I wonder if I'll receive anything if I don't call back or respond but attend the webinar?

    • Has anyone even managed to get this. I stopped trying after the bad experience of no Access point the last time I attended their trainings.

  • Everyone enjoy the webinar ?

    • So did anyone actually get the free switch or was it just a big scam?

      • Wouldn't the scam be joining the webinar for the sole purpose of getting a free switch?

        • Not if you meet the criteria..
