  • Good deal. I paid 499 about a week ago from MSY with Commonwealth credit card cashback of $190.

    • Hey Strayan. What do you think of the monitor? Does the 1080p resolution on a 31.5 inch monitor look bad? I can't find much reviews about it online.

      • +1

I mainly use it for gaming and Bluray and it looks great. Excellent contrast ratio (upgraded from a 27 inch IPS) and supports 24p.

The only thing that suffers is text because of the low PPI. If I bought this monitor for word processing I wouldn't be happy.

This monitor has also been reviewed by PRAD: http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test/2015/test-samsung-s32e5…

        • I wanted to get it for word processing and excel sheet crunching. So bad option for me?

        • @Monstro:

Probably a bad option for you unless you're aged 50 plus.

        • @strayan: Out of curiosity, what operating system are you using?

        • @Monstro:

          Windows 10

        • @strayan:

          unless you're aged 50 plus.

or, refusing to wear prescription glasses, eye disease, Sjögren's syndrome, etc. - countless reasons why people don't see well and hence don't understand or appreciate higher PPI.

        • @AlexF:

I think you mean lower ppi, ie bigger pixels.

        • @manic:

          bigger pixels.

Pixel size, hence, PPI, dictates size of smallest displayable graphic, not size of composition.

  • 31.5" wide, Curved, VA, 1920x1080, 5000:1 CR, Mega DCR, 4ms, 178/178 viewing angle, 16.7M colours, 60Hz refresh rate, 200x200 VESA, 5w speakers, 2xHDMI/Display Port/Headphone

  • There is absolutely no convincing argument (backed by science) for curved displays, there seem to be plenty of arguments against though.

    • +1

I suspect it's more like - "I don't understand the need for such, therefore there is no need for such".

      • Are you referring to my comment or the technology?

    • By science? It's kind of common sense that having everything equidistant from your eye would be nice, hence the way that many people set up 3 monitors in a way that the two side monitors are not parallel to the centre one.

What scientific argument is there AGAINST curved displays? The only objection I've heard is that it doesn't make a difference on a TV 2-3m away, but a 31.5" monitor 50cm away is basically the perfect use case for a curved screen.

        Because it's a distortion artifact.

        http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/01/whats-the-deal-with-c…

        It's a gimmick.

Andrew Stockman, professor of vision at University College London, who said curved TVs have "fairly minor effects, with several disadvantages" and concluded that they are "not really worth the extra money".

Possibly the only exception would be trying to achieve a wrap around effect in first person game. But I'd need convincing.

This is a computer monitor. I don't know about you but I don't sit meters away from my computer monitor on a couch with my family. None of what you posted applies here.

Here's Google images for three monitor setup. Take notice of how the vast majority of people like to set up 3 monitors, now see if you can figure out why someone with one big monitor might want it to curve.

        • @NoRotation:

I already made that comment about gaming.

Anyway your eyes don't need anything to be equidistant that's the point of having two eyes at the front of your head.

In a gaming setup your trying to artificially create immersion by placing screens at the sides… Curving them would add nothing.

Perhaps you could hook it up with these cables

    • It has a coolness effect. It's different and unusual.

I would consider it for monitors as one person is sitting at the pc, but not for a tv where multiple people would be watching it.

  • Msy has it for $489 , Good Find…

  • Love curved monitors but I would probably wait it out till the ppi increases and the price decreases. Nevertheless, this is the cheapest price around for this particular monitor.
